Chapter 318 The Bookworm

Chapter 318 The Bookworm (First Update)

"Alice, look, Salomon is going to Oxford! Finish your meal and go study!" Wu Guiyue rolled her eyes at her daughter, then turned to Salomon with a smile and continued to pour soup into his bowl. Alice sighed quietly, looking at the sorcerer with a helpless expression. Salomon shrugged, indicating that he was powerless to do anything about the situation.

Mr. Gulliver, who had been hiding his face behind the newspaper, peeked out from the other side. He first shook his head at his daughter, then winked. Although he didn't speak, Alice understood her father's meaning perfectly.

"Bear with it for now. I'll take you to play baseball later. Why don't you ask Salomon if he wants to go?"

Alice looked at the sorcerer, Salomon nodded in agreement, and she was very satisfied.

All communication was conducted in silence. When Wu Guiyue placed the soup bowl in front of Salomon, the other three at the table resumed their upright posture. Alice, in particular, pretended to be well-behaved, but her feet under the table were already swinging excitedly.

Wu Guiyue cast a suspicious look at the three of them.

"Drink more soup before eating. You won't be able to get this kind of food in Asgard. They say it's all roasted meat there, which is very unhealthy!" Wu Guiyue gave up on investigating. As the person who had taken care of Salomon before he could take care of himself, Wu Guiyue's words were still very effective on him. Salomon obediently buried his face in the ridiculously large soup bowl and used the soup spoon to scoop up the ribs and eat them.

It tastes familiar, but they added too much salt again.

But it tastes very good.

"Cassilios and Mordo have no idea what you want to eat. You're still growing, and foreign food isn't nutritious at all... Plus, your girlfriend can't cook! Seriously, why don't you have them come to me to learn? Are you going to be the one cooking after we get married?"

Even as everyone obediently buried their heads in their food, Wu Guiyue didn't stop nagging. Even as the guardian of the Hong Kong Temple, she was still preoccupied with the mundane matters of daily life. Wu Guiyue was always a little worried that Alice's not-so-excellent academic performance was far behind Salomon's. As someone who had taken care of Salomon, she couldn't help but compare him to Alice.

In fact, Alice possesses a talent for learning magic, and this talent is quite good even within Kamar-Taj. Wu Guiyue has her own family's magic, a special power that exists only in the oldest member of the bloodline, outwardly characterized by deep pink hair. This means that Alice will eventually inherit that special magic and Wu Guiyue's magical artifact, the Wan Tai Staff.

But the price of learning magic is far too high. Wu Guiyue thought to herself, I absolutely cannot let Alice rashly step into another world. She must not sacrifice her soul and internal organs for magic. I will not allow sores and deformities to appear on her body.

Fortunately, Alice herself wasn't particularly interested in magic (Wu Guiyue used magic to care for children, as Salomon had personally experienced), so she didn't object to the decision. The old mages at Kamar-Taj headquarters, who were practically immobile and spent their days sunbathing and farting, were almost two hundred years old. Wu Guiyue felt she could live at least another hundred years, giving her time to slowly teach Alice.

Salomon went through submitting his predicted grades, personal statement, and most importantly, exams and school tests. After receiving an interview invitation from Oxford University, he was likely to become the most academically accomplished minor in Kamar-Taj—the quietest college was his first choice, followed by the most scenic Magdalen College.

There is Oxford's only deer park there.

For his third choice, he selected Merton College. Quietness, beautiful scenery, and professionalism were Salomon's criteria. All his choices were made with the help of a professional, Jane Foster. Athena knew nothing about those schools, and the witches didn't have any diplomas.

Joan of Arc may have had a diploma, but it was issued by the Ragnar Order on the Isle of the Sun, and its value was not very high.

After receiving instruction from Queen Frigga, he will also possess a diploma from the Aesir court. In magic, he is a direct disciple of the Sorcerer Supreme of Kamar-Taj, and with the magical training from Queen Frigga, he will be entering a world-renowned university for his secular studies. It can be said that Athena's expectations for him have been largely fulfilled; what follows is the path an ancient hero should take.

At least that's what Athena intended, and she also hoped Salomon would have a good ending.

Salomon sniffed as he sipped his soup. Stewed pork ribs were a delicious dish he could never resist. He often drank pork rib soup with tea tree mushrooms when he was a child. Aunt Wu Guiyue would always make this soup, and he still often reminisced about this taste after he moved to New York.

Bayonetta also loves his soup because it has a home-style flavor.

------------

After Heimdall escorted them to Asgard, they were greeted by Snoretra, the goddess of wisdom. Snoretra was a handmaiden of Frigg, the queen of the gods. Sorcerers of Snoretra's caliber were not worthy of Frigg's personal greeting, so Snoretra and Snoretra's daily lives were arranged by Frigg's handmaiden.

Prior to this, the sorcerers of Kamar-Taj had never stayed overnight in Asgard; they only came here to deliver documents. Because the apprentices had daily training, Kasirius would stay here for a day to ensure Salomon had an audience with Queen Frigga, after which he would return to Earth to continue his work.

However, the atmosphere within Asgard was far from pleasant. The reason was simple: the effects of the broken Rainbow Bridge had not yet subsided, and Vanaheim, the old nemesis of the Aesir, had rebelled once again. After the Rainbow Bridge was repaired and Asgard's supplies were restored, Thor was ordered to lead an army to quell the rebellion, taking a large number of soldiers with him from the Golden Palace.

Cassirios noticed the unusual atmosphere in Asgard and raised an eyebrow at Salomon.

Kamar-Taj had known about the Vanir rebellion for some time. Although the Aesir had tried to conceal the news, not wanting Asgard's prestige to be damaged, such a large-scale military mobilization could not have escaped the Sorcerer Supreme's notice—especially since Asgard's prestige had already plummeted when Loki and Thor clashed. In the Nine Realms, aside from a few barely surviving kingdoms, Alfheim and Midgard were already waiting to see Asgard make a fool of itself.

Of course, Odin is still alive, and apart from the Sorcerer Supreme who can laugh a little, the other kingdoms don't dare to laugh out loud, otherwise they would be Asgard's next target for establishing its authority.

"These are your rooms," the goddess of wisdom, Snowtra, opened the heavy door. "Inside are Asgardian garments prepared for you. Tonight, there will be a welcome banquet in Asgard; please attend on time."

"She's really cold-hearted," Kasirius said with a smile after Snowtra left. "Because of the time constraints, you arrived in Asgard ahead of schedule. The Sorcerer Supreme asked me to tell you not to fall for the Asgardians' tricks. That means you can't drink tonight. To be precise, you can't drink at all while you're studying in Asgard."

"I'm not a drunkard, Kasirius. But you, you better not get drunk by the Asgardians."

"Then why don't you hurry up and give me the Panacea? I know how effective your alchemy potions are; last time I got Count Kooz drunk at the Doorless Bar (see Chapter 82)!"

Salomon curled his lip and held up the parchment in his hand, displaying it to Cassirius. It was given to him by the goddess of wisdom, Snowtra, and bore the wax seal of the queen of the gods, Frigg, and a pair of heron wings.

"I need to go to the library; I have my library card." He handed the potion to Cassirios. "This document will allow me to take the book out of the library."

"Aren't you going to the banquet?"

"Those who attend banquets are all idle nobles; studying is the most important thing."

Ugh, I don't want to go to work~
