Chapter 771 Isolation Measures
Chapter 771 Isolation Measures (First Update)
Salomon was the last to emerge from the teleportation array.
Compared to the android who was merely covered in a layer of sand before, his condition was far worse; the high temperature, flames, and radiation had left too many marks on his armor. The girls standing outside the airtight glass enclosure noticed a golden glow emanating from his eyes. He refused the others' help, instead tearing open his damaged armor and the molten, twisted electronic muscle fibers beneath, throwing unusable armor plates and electronic devices onto the ground.
He lost contact with all the android teams after the hydrogen bomb explosion, anticipating that he wouldn't be able to contact them while fighting the Hive, which is why he asked Catherine to bring the girls out. He listened to reports even while being disinfected and showered. Stephanie's report indicated that Catherine had perfectly completed her mission.
Stephanie took a deep breath. She discreetly touched her arm; she simply couldn't bear the sight of Salomon peeling off his armor plates to reveal his muscles—it was just too hot. The girls blinked and secretly used the electronic devices in their helmets to take some photos. The communication system beeped, and the girls agreed to exchange photos after the mission, then secretly make calendars or posters to put on their room walls.
Stephanie intercepted some of the communications, promising to tell the monarch what they had done unless she received a copy. "And Lady Catherine," a girl whispered, "she certainly needs a copy too."
"Then give it to her!" Stephanie said through gritted teeth. "Why should she be the only one allowed to stand face-to-face with the monarch when he's completely naked!"
At the end of the disinfection corridor, Catherine stood with her hands on her hips, chin held high, waiting for her reward.
Salomon patted her head, finally allowing the lively android to put on a towel instead of walking out naked. Catherine was actually 180 centimeters tall, but compared to the arcane mage, she was considered short. Every android had a fantastic physique, modeled after Salomon's favorite character, Dinah from LOVE DOLL, so Catherine often showed off her fit body. The girls who joined later mostly envied the androids' abs and muscle definition, and this was a large part of the reason they trained so hard.
Salomon opened his arms for the medical team's examination, casually swatting away Catherine's outstretched hand, as she intended to smear grease on his chest and abs. If Tita saw this, she'd definitely get a beating, but Tita was currently aboard the Sky Carrier, and Catherine was doing everything she could to get closer to Salomon. Salomon quite liked this mischievous android, so he didn't scold her too much for her antics.
"What about Gemma Simmons and Leopold Fitz?"
"Ahem." Stephanie gestured for Catherine to take the olive oil. "Squad Gamma brought back Fitz, and Squad T brought back Simmons. However, Simmons had someone with him, so Squad T had to bring them back as well." She asked a member of the assault team next to her through the communication system, and after receiving a confirmation, she handed Salomon an earpiece.
"She also brought back a NASA astronaut," her voice came through the headset. "That project was funded by the Malik family. We're isolating them now under the pretext of testing for infection, but this can't last long. I'm sorry, my lord, we didn't expect anyone to survive on that planet for so long."
The sorcerer nodded, then swallowed the anti-radiation medication provided by the medical team. "I understand. Use this as an excuse to stall S.H.I.E.L.D. Isolate that astronaut and have a heavy weapons team with flamethrowers guard him. Once we've confirmed he's not infected, take him to the Sky Carrier and prevent him from contacting anyone from S.H.I.E.L.D.."
"Yes, my lord! And..."
"Is there anything else?"
"Agent Coulson was injured." Stephanie said somewhat apologetically. "It was an accident, my lord. He is out of danger and is currently recovering. I believe the bio-modified heart we provided can help him solve many problems."
"So how did all this happen?"
Stephanie gave an awkward laugh. "Well... I think there's something else you should be concerned about, my lord."
"What is it?"
"Agents from S.H.I.E.L.D. went to Tangier."
Tangier, Morocco, is one of the oldest cities in the world, built by the Phoenicians in the 6th century BC as an important trading post between Phoenician city-states. Daisy Jensen's destination was Tangier's Old Town. Here, the maze-like streets and alleys are filled with shops and stalls scattered among the houses, and the mosaic decorations on the street corners shimmer with a warm, Mediterranean glow. Under the open parasols, the aromas of mint and coffee, spices and pastries overwhelm the visitors.
Daisy decided to throw away the travel guide after being thoroughly covered in dust in the dusty streets. Everything was coated in a fine layer of dust, and every public facility in sight was peeling and rusty. The description of coffee, however, was true; the area was near an old free port where many goods were unloaded—leather, cork, citrus fruits, vegetables, and, of course, a large quantity of coffee.
"Fitz said the last clue is here?" She instinctively pressed the bottom of her headscarf to avoid inhaling dust. She could also use this motion to press her earpiece and communicate with her comrades in the Quinjet. "How could he think the clue is here? Is there some high-tech stuff here?"
"Fitz believes that the megalith is extremely ancient, so there must be records of it in human history. He discovered that a gang leader here possesses a very valuable historical document and is now looking for a buyer."
Melinda May's tone was as calm as ever, but Daisy couldn't help but laugh. "I thought I'd be going on the mission alone," she said. "I didn't expect Barbara to tell you Coulson was injured, and you rushed back immediately..."
"I can take a vacation anytime, but now doesn't seem like a good time to leave S.H.I.E.L.D." Melinda May's statement made perfect sense. There were very few capable people in S.H.I.E.L.D. right now. Agent Coulson was still recovering from his illness, Barbara had just had knee surgery, and Mike simply couldn't handle so many things on his own. As for Barbara's ex-husband, Hunter, everyone assumed he was incapable of carrying out logistical tasks at the base.
"Won't Andrew be angry?" Daisy asked her ex-husband, but Melinda May refused to answer the question.
“He’s a psychiatrist,” Melinda May simply said, then instructed Daisy Jensen to focus on the mission. “You need to understand, we absolutely cannot sell weapons to gangsters,” she said. “So you must withdraw quickly after obtaining the objective. The Quinjet will provide cover fire. Go and come back quickly, got it?”
"Just like the first mission," Daisy Jensen murmured, peering out to observe the old, distinctive house at the end of the alley. Her target was inside; the question now was how to get those things.
"Don't waste time," Melinda May said calmly. "They refuse to let us speak to Simmons and that astronaut. We need to find clues before they take the astronaut away, or they'll bury those secrets forever."
