Chapter 841 Time Loop
Chapter 841 Time Loop (First Update)
Pegasus let out an excited hoot as his white wings cast a dark shadow in the warm light.
Pegasus folded its wings and spurred its horse forward, accelerating. Salomon, in perfect unison, tilted his lance, the sharp tip piercing in the blink of an eye a demonic bird named "Rage" and a humanoid seraph named "Joy." He tossed them aside, lifting them high above his head, leaving them to be trampled to pieces by the throngs of extradimensional beings. Pegasus didn't stop accelerating; Salomon relentlessly swung his lance, clearing away obstacles in his path, blood flowing like a river beneath his hooves. When he finally carved a bloody path through the horde of angels and demons, and Pegasus's iron hooves touched the altar, he spurred his horse straight towards the prophet, the tip of his lance aimed at the prophet's head.
The prophet opened his arms to the murderous crowd charging towards him. "Come, right eye of light, left eye of darkness, it's time to return to your master's embrace," he said. "And you, arcane mage. Kamar-Taj did cause me some trouble, and by mortal standards, you did a good job."
Constantine swung his halberd, protecting the suicide squad as they advanced along the bloody path Salomon had carved out to the prophet.
When Salomon appeared, the morale of the suicide squad was inexplicably boosted, especially among the Sisterhood's armed members, who were exceptionally excited. They even abandoned self-defense, recklessly hurling bombs and chainsaws at the enemy, solely to kill these human foes as quickly as possible. Their fighting spirit even caught the sage's attention. Baldr intentionally or unintentionally stood in front of the suicide squad, blocking some powerful enemies that Constantine was unable to deal with, while Bayonetta escorted them along the path made of the corpses of extradimensional beings.
The boy clutched his trump card tightly. It was the one he had prepared to use against the prophet, to completely destroy his other half. Although it might lead to his utter death, the boy felt he couldn't betray the sacrifices of others, and he believed he had to end this.
The prophet effortlessly dodged the holy spear, and swirling stars burst forth beneath Pegasus's hooves.
However, Pegasus scoffed at such an attack. It flapped its wings sharply, lifting Salomon high into the sky to escape the intense starlight and radiation erupting from the ground. Then, like a seabird, Pegasus folded its wings and swooped down. Salomon seized the opportunity; as it ascended, it chanted a spell and thrust its holy lance with force during the descent. The lance tip shattered the prophet's spells aimed at Pegasus, aiming straight for the prophet's chest. But just as the lance tip was about to strike, several translucent, azure arms gripped the tip of the holy lance tightly.
"How dare you..." The prophet glared fiercely at Salomon.
It wasn't easy for him to take that shot.
Salomon knew a great deal of magic, including some extremely vicious spells and bizarre uses of ordinary spells. The prophet's feet were now tightly bound by several dark gray venomous snakes exuding a corrosive aura, rendering him immobile. Some of the snakes had even crawled up his legs, injecting venom. Although this didn't significantly affect the prophet, he was still shocked and could only passively endure Salomon's attacks. Salomon didn't adhere to chivalry in battle; he fought with the most vicious methods possible. This was somewhat unacceptable to someone whose beliefs were still rooted in godhood, especially since such a thing hadn't happened during the first campaign to destroy the gods. However, the prophet wouldn't voice this absurdity, otherwise, even if he won, he would be forever ridiculed.
"Once again, Pegasus." Salomon wasted no time and gave the order in a low voice.
Pegasus reared up, trampling the prophet to the ground. As the prophet tried to rise, Pegasus returned, slamming him away. The drooping holy spear followed, piercing the prophet's body and pinning him to the ground. Lady Butterfly emerged halfway from the portal, looking down at the prophet. Salomon, seizing the opportunity, sheathed his spear and unleashed several punches at the still unconscious prophet, shattering him and the stone floor of the altar.
"Hurry up, boy!" Constantine stepped aside to let the suicide squad pass.
The sorority rushed forward with the boy, escorting him to Salomon and Pegasus. Salomon brandished his holy spear, repelling the extradimensional beings attempting to rescue him, allowing the boy to throw out the card imbued with half the power of the Chaos God Aesir—the prophet, who had been unconscious, stretched out both hands, one to block Lady Butterfly's fist, and the other to firmly grasp the card. Before the others could even react, the prophet burst into laughter.
"Have you forgotten what I said, brother?" the prophet said lightly. "Now I am stronger."
The boy was still in shock when his body was involuntarily pulled towards the altar by a force. The prophet, who had been lying on the ground, suddenly appeared on the other side of the altar, his hand tightly gripping the boy's neck. Bayonetta and Baldr tried to rush over to rescue the boy, but were blocked by Salo and Pegasus. At first, Bayonetta was somewhat puzzled, but she soon understood the reason—the boy was powerless against the prophet; the originally opposing forces had merged into one in the blink of an eye, and the original power of the Chaos God Aesir exerted an irresistible attraction on her left eye. Baldr also encountered a similar predicament, the light from his right eye constantly flowing from him toward the prophet.
"Is everything under Kamar-Taj's control now?" Bayonetta asked, dissatisfied.
"Don't worry, this is a necessary procedure," Salomon nodded. Whether the Chaos God Asar represents good or evil, both sides must be eliminated; this has nothing to do with his personal feelings.
Similarly, only with the complete demise of the Chaos God Asar can the danger of the Eye of the World be minimized. Bald looked at him with distrust, but even a sage had to admit that it was indeed extremely dangerous for the current possessor of the Eye of the World to be near the prophet. While the prophet was indulging in the feeling of his power returning, Salomon asked Bayonetta and Bald to retreat. He didn't want to reveal his trump card yet—the main premise of the time loop was that certain key points were unchangeable, and he had discussed this with the Venerable after his awakening. He watched as the Venerable ordered his past self to participate in this mission, while he personally used the silver key to cast a spell on his past self, opening a [time portal] to send him back to the past.
To be precise, he sent himself back in time to achieve a time loop. The Sorcerer Supreme had a deeper understanding of time loops, and he told Salomon some little secrets that could be used as trump cards.
"Fire ten rounds in quick succession." The order was relayed from the bridge of the Punisher to the artillery positions.
With a noise like shattering glass, the siege cannons finally descended upon the summit of Mount Finnbowent.
The prophet spread his arms amidst the continuous explosions, savoring the power of unity. He ignored the terrifying blasts caused by the high-speed shells, which easily crushed the countless extradimensional creatures. Commanded by some force, they remained silently in place, unmoved even as shells exploded beside them. The prophet seemed confident of victory and believed his enemy should witness his defeat firsthand.
This arrogance is exactly what Salomon needs; he needs this time to play his first card.
