The doctor didn't quite understand the meaning of the sentence and was about to ask something when a noisy argument came from the end of the corridor.

"Where is that kid? He almost killed my son, and instead of arresting him, you come here and tell me it was my son's fault?"

A group of middle-aged men and women jogged towards them in a grand procession. Leading them was an angry, elderly woman with heavy makeup and a fleshy face that trembled as she ran, looking as if she might fall off at any moment, which made the doctor's heart pound with fear.

Lu Mingfei's uncle and aunt were also in the crowd, but their situation was not good. The parents who came to cause trouble did not let them go either, grabbing their arms and forcibly dragging them over.

The uncle apologized profusely while offering cigarettes to the people next to him, but they didn't want to pay him any attention.

The aunt's emotions were similar to everyone else's; she frantically twisted her body, trying to break free from the hands gripping her arm, and loudly cursed these men. But how could a middle-aged woman who spent most of her life by the stove possibly be stronger than these burly men? She could only cry and curse.

Her cries attracted people from other wards to come out and see what was going on. Everyone leaned against the door and looked out, their eyes like knives stabbing into their aunt.

So the aunt became even more upset, and her scolding became increasingly harsh.

The uncle had no choice but to turn back to comfort his wife, but when his aunt scolded him, he also got caught up in the scolding. He awkwardly scratched his head and kept bowing and scraping to the people next to him.

The doctor could easily guess that these people were probably the guardians of those thugs.

Although those thugs committed armed robbery, they were actually just a bunch of teenagers. The oldest leader was only in his early twenties, and the youngest was not even an adult yet.

That's why they find it tricky, because everyone is basically the same age, you're a minor and I'm a minor, so the advantage of age is completely gone.

Two young policemen caught up with the group and quietly explained to them that their child had started the robbery at knifepoint, but they were met with undisguised eye-rolls in return.

"Don't talk to me like that. I'm illiterate and don't understand any of that law! All I know is that my child is in the ICU, and instead of arresting the perpetrator, you come here and tell me it was self-defense. Does self-defense mean sending someone to the ICU?"

The middle-aged woman with a fierce face became more and more agitated as she spoke, spitting everywhere. The two young policemen had never seen anything like this before, and they were at a loss for words, unable to retaliate.

The doctor thought to himself that the visitor was up to no good, and without making a sound, he closed the ward door and used his body to block out the ward number while holding up his notebook.

His behavior only aroused the older woman's suspicion. She rushed over to check the room number in another ward and immediately turned back.

The doctor couldn't help but swallow hard as he looked at the face covered in makeup. Although he was a little scared, he moved closer to the middle of the door, blocking the small viewing window, took a deep breath, and tried to force a smile.

"Get out of the way!"

But the older woman didn't play any of his games and gave the doctor a push on the shoulder.

The doctor's expression changed drastically. Even though he had prepared himself mentally, he still hadn't expected that hand to possess such terrifying strength.

He felt as if he had been slapped head-on by King Kong, a sharp pain like a bone cracking in his shoulder, and he was pushed away, staggering.

The door was wide open, and the middle-aged woman was the first to enter. She immediately saw Lu Mingfei lying on the hospital bed in a daze, and without saying a word, she raised her arm, which was as thick as an elephant's leg.

The police officers and doctors who witnessed this scene were terrified. The people behind them tacitly blocked the doorway, and they could only see inside through the gaps in the human wall.

If that slap really landed, Lu Mingfei, with his frail physique, would probably be done for right there!

The expected wails and slaps did not occur. The woman's hand had been raised high for a long time but did not fall. The ward was so quiet that only her heavy breathing could be heard.

The others were starting to lose their footing, wondering what this woman was up to. Why had she suddenly stopped hitting them? Could it be that she'd suddenly had a change of heart?

The uncle, however, reacted quickly and squeezed through the crowd into the ward while everyone was still stunned. He wanted to persuade everyone to calm down, saying that there was nothing that couldn't be discussed and that there was no need to fight with a child.

"Are you trying to hit me?"

Lu Mingfei looked up expressionlessly at the old woman's face and then at the slap, then suddenly grabbed the water glass and slammed it against the corner of the bedside table.

The crisp sound of shattering glass broke the silence. The middle-aged woman, who had been stunned for a long time, finally came to her senses, but she dared not bring her hand down again.

"No...no..."

The old woman said, trembling.

"Isn't that right? Then put your hand down. Holding it up like that must be tiring, right?"

Lu Mingfei smiled at her and reached out to hold her wrist.

Compared to the middle-aged woman's robust figure, Lu Mingfei's arms were as slender as an embroidery needle, yet his delicate hand seemed to possess immense strength, actually pressing down on the middle-aged woman's hand little by little.

"Calm down, classmate. There's nothing that can't be discussed, right? You're still young and have a bright future ahead of you. There's no need to jeopardize your whole life over something so trivial."

The uncle was taken aback, thinking to himself, "Why are you saying all my lines?" But after glancing at the situation in the room, he silently swallowed his words.

He nodded in agreement as he carefully moved inside:

"Yes, Mingfei, listen to your uncle, calm down. We can help you solve any problems. Have you been under too much pressure lately? It's okay, it's okay. Uncle will ask your homeroom teacher for leave later. We'll ask for a week off! You can go wherever you want!"

The people who were still blocking the door were bewildered by the two guys who had suddenly joined forces with them. They stopped blocking the door and poured into the ward like a school of fish.

But they were startled by what they saw as soon as they entered, and their forward momentum was abruptly halted, each of them maintaining a twisted and comical posture.

Those who came to watch the commotion peeked inside from the doorway, and were immediately horrified and ran away. In just a few seconds, the once bustling corridor became empty.

Lu Mingfei knelt on the hospital bed, smiling as he looked at the old woman, his arms outstretched as if he wanted to hug her.

It's quite an ambiguous pose, if you can ignore the broken glass on the ground and the half-empty glass that Lu Mingfei is holding against the old lady's neck.
