In the name of the true god

Chapter 26: The First Meeting

When Jude returned to the guards' lounge in the regular prison block to change into his guard uniform, Captain Foster and four colleagues had already gone to the watchtower to stand guard.

He rushed over and saw that "Big Brother" Killian was standing guard alone, so he climbed the ladder to keep him company.

"You're here." 'Big Brother' Killian, holding his gun, simply greeted Jude upon his arrival without asking why he was late.

"Hmm." Jude was really not in the mood for much talk today. He also took a bolt-action rifle from the wall, unloaded the bullets to make sure the magazine was empty, and then reloaded the bullets before patrolling back and forth on the watchtower.

He only managed to stay focused for a few minutes before his thoughts wandered off again.

The mysterious man's two-day surveillance and the sudden death of Priest Rodney almost completely disrupted his plans.

Now that other unfamiliar priests are secretly protecting and monitoring him, he cannot act out of character by making a large-scale purchase of old newspapers and compiling major events from the past twenty-nine years.

The fat wizard's true identity was completely lost after the death of the priest Rodney.

Of the three original plans, only the one that was destined to yield no significant returns in the short term remained overnight: "secretly contacting and implicating wizards and resonance sorcerers"...

Will this plan also suddenly change and fall through?

Jude couldn't be sure; he could only feel more and more strongly that the mysteries and crises surrounding him were more complex and urgent than he had anticipated.

I need to take more initiative and do something.

……

noon.

Prison guards' canteen.

"Handsome" Colin and "Fat" Allen curiously asked Jude why he was more than an hour late.

Having transmigrated to another world, Jude, who had no appetite for the first time, simply replied perfunctorily, "The deputy warden wants to talk to me."

Deputy warden.

Several colleagues instinctively thought of Steele Fernando, but then realized it was a private matter and didn't ask any further.

……

night.

Jude hasn't seen his brother Connor since they parted ways in the morning.

As he was leaving get off work, Colin, the "vain guy," suddenly approached him and asked if he wanted to go to a ballroom dance that night. Thinking about his third meeting with Edmund in the early hours of the morning, Jude promptly declined.

"call……"

After changing into his commode and standing in front of the main gate of the Royal Capital Heavy Prison, Jude took a deep breath, first touching the revolver at his waist, and then walking towards Hearthstone Street with a rather heavy heart.

This time, he didn't feel like he was being followed until he got home.

Has the mysterious person given up monitoring me?

What about the priests appointed by the Holy Wind Church? They are very powerful and well hidden, so I couldn't detect them at all?

Considering that using the Law of Contact would cause him to experience mild to moderate dizziness, and that if the priests hiding in the shadows discovered something amiss, it would inevitably cause new trouble, Jude had no choice but to suppress his curiosity on the way back. Even after returning home, he tried to remain natural, taking a bath, changing into his pajamas, and listening to the radio as usual.

The clock hand keeps turning round and round.

Nine o'clock in the evening.

10 PM.

Jude went to bed and pretended to sleep, silently talking to himself.

Hopefully, this matter can be resolved as soon as possible...

Otherwise, if I stay in this tense state every day, I'll eventually become paranoid and unable to think clearly...

It's 11 p.m.

Midnight.

Jude remembered that the first two times he entered the mysterious space, it must have been between two or three in the morning.

Despite lying in bed for a long time, the thought of meeting Edmund soon and being able to let down his guard and talk freely about his predicament made him even less sleepy.

At 1:00 AM and 2:00 AM on October 8th, 448th year of the Divine Religion Calendar...

It's almost time...

Jude cautiously used the law of contact to launch a high-intensity interrogation, confirming that someone was watching him, but there was no hostility.

Anticipating that the other party was most likely a priest arranged by the Holy Church, and that his entry and exit from the mysterious space appeared normal to outsiders, he quietly put the Möbius strip ring on the finger of his left hand and waited for the final moment to arrive.

Around 2:30 a.m.

The Möbius strip ring on his fingertip emitted a faint blue light under the thin blanket, and the familiar pulling sensation once again dragged Jude's consciousness into a mysterious space.

A tranquil world where black and white merge at the edge of sight.

Edmund Ravenscrown, still possessing a distinctive style, changed his outfit—a gray plaid shirt, a matching fedora, gold-rimmed glasses, and a camera hanging around his neck, exuding the air of a journalist.

Jude finally changed out of his tattered leather jacket and corduroy pants and put on a decent pair of pajamas.

Looking at each other.

Clearly, both sides have undergone tremendous changes in the past period of time.

"You go first?"

"You go first?"

The two asked the question in unison.

After exchanging a smile, Edmund spoke first: "Then I'll go first."

"Okay." In the mysterious space, where he didn't have to worry about anything, Jude became extremely relaxed.

"I'm in South Thermo, in the Kingdom of Nordonia. The Church of the Holy Land here recently arrested more than twenty sorcerers and resonance mages. I'm trying to rescue them."

"And your outfit..."

Edmund said, "I've joined a newspaper and am making contact with the prison that holds witches and resonance sorcerers under the guise of reporting. Once I have a good understanding of the prison's layout, I'll be able to devise a series of plans to break in."

That's really crazy...

No wonder he's known as a legendary wizard...

If it were Jude, let alone a second-tier wizard, even if he became a third-tier implicated wizard, he wouldn't even have the thought of breaking people out of prison, let alone saving more than twenty people in one go.

"Are you sure?" Jude asked.

Edmund said frankly, "No, but we have to try. Otherwise, if everyone thinks it can't be done and no one is willing to lend a hand, the wizards and resonance sorcerers will just fall apart and be at the mercy of the church."

Jude greatly admired Edmund's drive: "I hope you succeed."

"Thank you." After briefly recounting what he had done over the past month, Edmund first looked down and fiddled with his camera. "I didn't expect to be able to bring a camera in, but it seems it can't be used in the mysterious space."

"The mysterious space imposes many restrictions on us."

"Yes."

"...Back to the main topic." Jude said somewhat apologetically, "I'm sorry, I haven't had time to investigate the major events that have occurred over the past twenty-nine years this week."

"It's alright, it's definitely not an easy task, just take your time." Edmund keenly noticed that Jude's brows were slightly furrowed, as if he had encountered some problem. "Tell me about your situation."

"I..." Jude was a little unsure where to begin, "A lot has happened this week, no, to be precise, a lot of particularly troublesome problems have occurred."
