In the name of the true god

Chapter 83 Heavy Casualties

Chapter 83 Heavy Casualties

The convoy carrying the "false heretics" left the Royal Capital Heavy Prison in just about five minutes.

At their pace, they had probably only crossed one block.

Therefore, the gunshots were clearly heard, making it exceptionally easy to discern their direction and intensity.

"How could this be—"

Allen stared in disbelief, his face turning pale at a visible speed. "Yesterday, the president said he was canceling the rescue and would go somewhere else to distract the church, right?"

'

"Yes." Jude's expression was also solemn, puzzled as to why the Holy Church's seduction plan had still succeeded.

Could it be that Chairman Frost doesn't trust me?

Or perhaps someone in the Séance of the Gods acted without authorization?

Or is the Holy Church staging this whole thing?

Shouldn't.

Jude's brief encounters convinced him that Chairman Frost was a straightforward and impulsive man. If he had any doubts about him, he would point them out directly.

If it's a misunderstanding, we'll clear it up in person.

If it weren't for the misunderstanding, he would never have been spared his life.

The members of the Divine Descent Society and its leader, Frost, maintained single-line communication. Unless Frost revealed it, they had no way of knowing that ten priests had been stationed in the capital's heavy prison, let alone setting up an ambush in advance.

Even if someone knows, they might act without authorization.

The abilities of "one or two heretics" are simply insufficient to provoke such intense gunfire.

As for the church directing and acting itself—

That doesn't make sense either.

The church's feigned relocation was merely a ploy to lure "heretics" into coming to its rescue. Before the "heretics" even intervene, they've already started causing trouble themselves, which only adds unnecessary complications.

That leaves only one possibility —

"It must be another group," Jude said in a deep voice.

"Another group?" Allen reacted quickly. "You mean, there's another group of their kind lurking near the prison, trying to break in?"

"Um.

""

"This—" Allen stared blankly in the direction of the gunshot. "I've been here for three years and have never heard of this before—"

"That's normal." Jude put himself in their shoes and thought about it. "They haven't heard of the Descent of the Gods either, have they? Otherwise, the two groups would have already joined forces to plot something big."

""

Allen was stunned for a long time.

One moment he was congratulating himself on escaping a catastrophe through the Séance of God, and the next he found another group of his kind had fallen into the church's trap.

The church ultimately succeeded.

They, in turn, lost another group of potential comrades.

"us----"

"Now we can only pray that the church is ready to capture them alive." Jude had experienced too much in just over a month, and he was much calmer than Allen when faced with unexpected situations. "As long as they are alive and imprisoned in the capital's heavy prison, we will eventually find a way to rescue them."

,

Allen wholeheartedly agreed.

It's completely unrealistic to try to save them now.

The only optimistic view is that at least the newly arrested "heretics" will also be imprisoned in the capital's heavy prison.

The Divine Descent Society will eventually break out of prison. Saving the original thirty-nine implicated wizards and resonance sorcerers is one way to save them, and saving them along with them is another.

Let's look at it from a brighter perspective.

"After eliminating this group of heretics," the church's security around the prison will be relaxed, which will more or less facilitate the subsequent prison break by the Séance of God.

"I hope they survive—" Allen murmured.

“Bang bang bang bang bang!!

'

"Bang bang bang!!!"

'

Gunfire continued in the distance.

"Waaah—waaah"

The prison alarms sounded simultaneously, and the entire prison entered the highest level of martial law.

Jude and Allen stood straight on the watchtower. Because they were in important positions, they did not wait for further instructions from their superiors.

A dozen minutes later.

The distant gunfire and prison alarms gradually subsided.

Shortly after seven o'clock in the morning, only three of the four trucks returned to the prison.

Thanks to the watchtower's height, Jude and Allen could see the outer ring even from within the prison's inner ring.

Three trucks stopped, and Warden Adel, Deputy Warden Steele, and three other first-class guards hurriedly went to meet them, joining Deputy Warden Chambers and First-class Guard Connor, who were in charge of leading the luring operation.

The remaining dozens of armed prison guards, who were already on standby, surrounded the truck, assisting the priest in escorting the four blood-stained, shackled "heretics" to the inner ring road.

Next, the prison guards who participated in the entrapment plan got off the bus, and it appeared that their numbers were only about two-thirds of what they had at the start.

Finally, some bodies in prison uniforms and some in civilian clothes were carried down. The former were clearly prison guards who participated in the entrapment and were ultimately killed, while the latter were most likely heretics who were shot dead on the spot.

Despite the distance, Jude was able to clearly confirm that his brother Connor was safe and sound.

fine----

Connor is alright.

He secretly breathed a sigh of relief.

"Four—three—three—six—" Alan counted the number intently. "There are four living members of their kind, three corpses of their kind, and six corpses of prison guards—the priests should also be three short, I don't know what happened—"

"Hmm—" Jude gazed into the distance, "In such a fierce battle, even priests are bound to be injured or killed. I reckon the wounded priests and prison guards went directly to the hospital in another truck."

""

"Sigh—" Allen looked at the three corpses of his own kind and couldn't help but sigh, "If only I had met them sooner, wouldn't it have been better—"

Jude patted Allen on the shoulder: "Don't think too much about it. It's almost time for the shift change. You go see the chairman first, I'll go ask my brother about the situation, and then we'll meet at my house."

"Hmm...sigh..."

While sighing,

The priests personally escorted the four heretics without stopping, first passing through the administration building and heading straight for the special prison building.

One of the "heretical" figures, who was of a high rank, had a black cloth wrapped around his head to block his vision, and his hands and feet were bound with heavy shackles. He was practically dragged along by the four or five priests surrounding him.

The other three "heretics" were followed by two priests, each with one arm bound.

Jude stared at the person who was being watched most closely.

To cause such massive casualties amidst an ambush by at least a dozen priests and dozens of armed prison guards, could he also be a fourth-order heretic like Chairman Frost?

According to the indisputable iron law of the Holy Church, "fourth-order heretics" will be publicly executed regardless of whether they have any inclination to join the Church.

So————

Of the "heretics" who survived this time, there are probably only three —

What a pity!

"call----"

Watching the four "heretics" being escorted into the special prison building, Jude managed to calm his complicated emotions. He turned to look at the day shift guards who were walking into the prison one after another to take their posts, preparing himself to go directly to his brother Connor to find out what was going on as soon as he finished his shift.
