Chapter 95 Newt Scamander (First Update)

Three days later, inside the Bull Head Bar on Magic Street in America.

Li Chuan looked at the newspaper he had just bought and a smile appeared on his face.

"It seems it's today; I haven't misremembered the time."

The newspapers in the past few days have been full of reports about "Prohibition." The Congressional Chief of Staff proposed to introduce a prohibition order like the Muggle government, but President Serafina Picqueli rejected the proposal.

Claiming that American wizards have already had enough of the conflict with Muggles, gurgling liquor should absolutely not be banned, won unanimous praise from the local wizards.

But today, the newspaper's headline has been changed to "Magical Riots Threaten Exposure of the Wizarding World."

The accompanying image shows a destroyed house and a cracked road, describing how an unknown magical creature attacked a Muggle's house yesterday, and many Muggles witnessed the attack.

The United States has many descendants of Puritans, a term used to describe people in the Middle Ages who were extremely hostile to wizards. They were mostly Puritans who took pride in killing, selling, and enslaving wizards.

One of the most famous was the Salem witch trials in 1693 in the Massachusetts colony, where the Purgers instigated Muggles to kill twenty wizards on trumped-up charges.

Although the purgers were killed in retaliation by the wizards afterward, the incident greatly exacerbated the conflict between local wizards and Muggles. To this day, the relationship between American wizards and local Muggles is among the worst in the world.

Unlike in the UK, where at least the Muggle government head and some members are aware of the Ministry of Magic's existence, the Magical Congress of the United States and the US government have absolutely no communication or cooperation.

Nowadays, a descendant of a purge named Mary Lou Barryborn has established an anti-wizard organization called the Second Salem in the local church.

Her daily pronouncements about the evil of wizards only deepened the already somewhat subsided tensions.

After settling his breakfast with Yin Xike, Li Chuan quickly left the bar and appeared near the New York International Bank in a phantom-like manner.

If he remembers correctly, it was on the morning of the same day the news broke that Newt Scamander met his Muggle friend Jacob and his future wife Tina in front of the International Bank in New York.

"Since there is light in this world, there must be shadow. In our city, which is full of light, there are such shadows that carry out destruction and then disappear without a trace."

We must fight. Join us, Second Salem, we fight side by side.

At that moment, on the steps outside the bank, a middle-aged woman in a purple coat was giving a passionate speech.

She was Mary Lou Barryburn, who gave speeches every morning in front of the bank, trying to recruit people into her anti-wizard organization. In the evenings, she would distribute porridge to orphans on the streets so they could help her hand out flyers.

She herself adopted three children, two boys and a girl, but she was not kind to them, especially the boy, whom she abused almost every day.

Li Chuan walked out of the alley and across the street. He didn't pay attention to Mary, who was giving a speech, but instead took a flyer from a boy of about fifteen or sixteen and started chatting with him.

"What's your name?"

"Credens".

The boy had a bowl cut, his eyes darting around, and he looked timid and insecure.

"My name is Tom Foley. Is that your mother?"

Li Chuan pointed to Mary, who was still giving a passionate speech.

The boy glanced at Mary, a look of fear immediately appearing on his face:

"She's not; she's just my adoptive mother."

"I see. I think you seem to have some talents that ordinary people don't have. Would you be interested in coming with me to try your luck in other cities?"

Li Chuan said with a smile.

The boy looked at Li Chuan with some surprise, a hesitant expression on his face, but quickly shook his head:

"no thanks."

After saying that, he crossed the street and handed out flyers to pedestrians on the other side.

If someone had offered to take him away from here before, he would have agreed immediately, because he never wanted to suffer the physical abuse his adoptive mother inflicted on him every day again.

But now, he has new hope.

A wizard, much like the sister who had helped him before, promised to take him into the magical world and make him a wizard if he helped her with something.

Seeing this, Li Chuan didn't say anything, just smiled, and walked through the crowd to a spot next to the bank entrance to observe.

This introverted teenager named Credence is actually Grindelwald's target in his trip to New York—an Omniknight with immense destructive power.

Obscurus refers to a very special parasite that forms when a wizard, due to not learning magic in childhood and not properly channeling the magical energy within their body.

This usually occurred during the era of wizarding turmoil when wizards were hunted by Muggles. Many young wizards would deliberately suppress their magic to escape the Muggle hunt, thus becoming Obscurials.

Obscurials typically die before the age of ten, while Credence lived to this day, even until the age of twenty-three, because he possessed far greater talent and potential than a normal wizard.

Therefore, the power of the silent demon within him is also exceptionally terrifying. The houses and streets destroyed yesterday were actually caused by his emotional breakdown due to being abused by his adoptive mother again.

Grindelwald came to New York to obtain Obscurus, a parasite with a wide range of destructive power. However, he did not yet know that Credence was an Obscurus and thought he was some orphan from the Church of Mary.

That's why he used the lure of becoming a wizard to gain the trust of the naive and timid Credence, thus helping him find the Obscurus.

At this time, Grindelwald was only forty-three years old and had just officially started his uprising. Although he had a group of supporters, he had not yet established a stable rule in Europe and needed the assistance of the destructive force of the Obscurus.

Of course, this was just Li Chuan's guess, because in the movie, Grindelwald said he wanted to use the power of the Obscurus to kill Dumbledore, but he felt that was probably not the real reason.

After all, Grindelwald should know best how strong Dumbledore is. Although the Obscurial is powerful, it is impossible for him to kill Dumbledore.

"They're here!"

Just then, a commotion broke out in the crowd listening to Mary's speech at the bank entrance. Li Chuan keenly noticed a creature that looked like a platypus squeeze out of a curly-haired man's briefcase.

"It seems to be him."

The little guy who keeps weaving through the crowd like a platypus, stealing coins and jewelry, is clearly the Niffler, a magical creature with a special fondness for treasure.

The curly-haired man carrying a suitcase who chased after Niffler was Newt Scamander.

Newt, seeing Niffler escape into the bank, sensed something was wrong and quickly chased after her. Tina, who was monitoring Mary in the crowd, also followed, acting on her Auror instincts.

So far, the first subscription is over 300, and I estimate that by midnight it will be at most 400. With over 13,000 favorites and less than 500 first subscriptions, it seems that the new book has flopped. However, I would still like to thank Fengling Muye and Atemos for their donations. I will add two extra chapters today.

Although it flopped, I won't abandon it. I'll try my best to update more often and finish the story properly.
