Chapter 154 Heading to the Ministry of Magic
Chapter 154 Heading to the Ministry of Magic (Second Update)
"The female Rathalos will breathe on her eggs to keep them warm, so you can place the Rathalos eggs in a fireplace to incubate them."
It takes about six months for the hatchlings to be able to breathe fire normally. Usually, the fire they breathe is extremely hot and accompanied by thick gray smoke.
The ability to fly develops later in the young dragons; they are able to learn to fly around the twelfth month.
It takes a full two years for a fire dragon to fully mature. Note that when raising a newly hatched fire dragon, you need to feed it a small bucket of brandy mixed with chicken blood every half hour.
Three days later, you can start feeding it some meat; they grow very quickly!
Inside the library, Jerry was engrossed in reading Hagrid's returned copy of "Raising Dragons for Amusement and Profit."
Suddenly, a deep and familiar voice came from the doorway.
"Jerry, come out with me!"
Looking up, I saw it was Snape.
After saying hello to Hermione, Harry, and the others, Jerry registered the spellbook with Mrs. Pince and then left the library with Snape.
"Professor, is there something you need?"
The Easter holidays weren't over yet, and Professor Snape wouldn't come looking for him unless there was something important to discuss.
"Meyer Booth is here. You might have to go to France in the next couple of days!"
Snape gave a brief reply and said nothing more.
Jerry instantly realized that his first match as a member of the England Quidditch team was probably coming soon!
He was paid to do his job, and with 500 Galleons a month he couldn't just sit idly by. He had already made preparations for the competition, so he wasn't too surprised.
When Jerry arrived at Snape's office, he saw that Meyer looked noticeably older, and it seemed that Meyer had been under a lot of pressure lately because of being recruited into the Quidditch team.
Sure enough, things turned out pretty much as he had guessed.
Driven by pressure and the urgent need for Jerry to inspire the English Quidditch team and prove himself, Meyer applied to participate in this year's Quidditch Four Nations Tournament held by the French wizarding community.
The event is held in Paris, France, and currently the participating countries are the French organizers, the German Quidditch team, the Spanish Quidditch team, the Italian Quidditch team, and the English Quidditch team.
The tournament starts the day after tomorrow, consisting of six matches over three days. The rules are similar to those of the Quidditch Cup at Hogwarts, with matches played in a staggered fashion, and the Quidditch team with the most wins ultimately winning the trophy.
If the English Quidditch team wins the trophy, the Ministry of Magic promises to give each player a thousand Galleons as a bonus.
With a week left until the end of the Easter holidays, this trip to France for the competition won't interfere with Jerry's return to school.
Jerry had no objection to this, of course. After quickly packing his luggage back at the dormitory, he followed Meyer to a fireplace connected to the Floo Network that Hogwarts had specially set up for them.
"When traveling using Floo Powder, remember to speak clearly, go through the correct furnace door, tuck your elbows in, close your eyes, and don't fidget or panic..."
After explaining how to use Floo Powder to Jerry, who was using it for the first time, Meyer went into the fireplace first.
Seeing this, Jerry didn't hesitate either. He grabbed a handful of silver Floo Powder and threw it into the fireplace. After seeing the flames turn emerald green, he pulled his suitcase and stepped inside.
"The London Ministry of Magic!"
Yes, now they first need to go to the Ministry of Magic, and then use the Ministry of Magic's Portkey to travel to the French Ministry of Magic, since the British Floo Network doesn't reach France.
Pulling his suitcase out from the fireplace, Jerry dusted himself off and quickly scanned his surroundings.
He was standing at one end of a long, magnificent hall with gleaming dark wooden floors.
The peacock blue ceiling is inlaid with glittering gold symbols that are constantly moving and changing, like a giant high-altitude bulletin board.
On either side were gilded fireplaces inlaid in wooden planks. On the left, wizards kept emerging like him, while on the right, wizards lined up to leave.
The entire hall was densely packed with wizards; I estimate there were at least several hundred.
"Mr. Carmen, come with me. We need to go to the Magic Sports Department on the seventh floor to find your teammates!"
Meyer, who was standing not far ahead, saw Jerry emerge from the fireplace and waved to him with a smile.
Jerry immediately pulled his suitcase and followed.
As he weaved through the crowded throng of wizards, a striking magical fountain came into view, making him marvel at how wealthy the Ministry of Magic truly was.
Because the striking statues in the fountain, several times larger than real people, were made of pure gold, and there wasn't just one; there were two wizards, a male and a female, as well as goblins, house-elves, and centaurs.
As he passed the fountain, he glanced at the bottom of the pool, where many glittering silver shiko and bronze nat were visible. A small, stained sign nearby read:
"All proceeds from the Magic Brothers Fountain will be donated to the St. Mungo's Hospital for Magical Injuries."
"The 'Magic Brothers Fountain'? Where are the brothers? It'd be more like a 'Magic Couple Fountain'!"
Jerry silently complained that the fountain's name didn't suit the statue itself, then followed Meyer to a smaller side hall with twenty elevators surrounded by gold railings.
"Coach Meyer, how long has this place been around?"
"Open the golden gate and step into the magic elevator," Jerry asked curiously.
"Oh, that's a long time ago. It was built before the Wizarding Council existed in the 18th century. Back then, it didn't have this many floors. After the Ministry of Magic was established, more and more departments were added, and it eventually reached the current ten floors."
"Which floor are we on now?"
Jerry looked inside the elevator but didn't see any floor buttons.
"The lobby is on the eighth basement level; we need to go to the seventh basement level!"
Meyer explained.
It's normal to be curious on your first visit to the Ministry of Magic. As an instructor, Meyer is always very patient, and Jerry is his biggest trump card for turning things around, so he's even more patient.
Just as the magic elevator was about to close due to being full, several purple paper airplanes bearing the Ministry of Magic's insignia whizzed into the elevator.
Before Jerry could ask, Meyer explained:
"Those were notes used to pass messages between departments. They used to use owls, but the mess was unbelievable... there was feces everywhere on the desks..."
Upon hearing this, Jerry could only sigh, realizing that there was indeed still much magic in this world that he didn't know about.
Even though he had memorized all the textbooks for seven grades, bought many magic books, and read many magic books in the library, there were still many magics he did not know.
He had never seen this magical paper airplane that could send messages on its own in any book.
