Chapter 80 The fastest match in history

Chapter 80 The fastest match in history

A Quidditch match consists of seven players: three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker.

Three chasers are responsible for catching the Quaffle and throwing it into the opponent's hoop to score points; each goal is worth ten points.

The two batters are responsible for hitting the highly aggressive loitering balls away, protecting their teammates. If they have the skill, hitting the ball towards the opposing players would be even better.

The goalkeeper is responsible for guarding the goal and preventing the opposing players from throwing the Quaffle into their team's three scoring rings.

Most importantly, the Seeker is responsible for catching the Golden Snitch. Catching the Golden Snitch ends the game and earns the Seeker a total of 150 points.

Therefore, under normal circumstances, the team whose Seeker catches the Golden Snitch first will basically win.

After all, unless one's own team members are significantly weaker than the opponent's, it's impossible for there to be such a large gap of 150.

However, the Golden Snitch is not so easy to catch. In history, there have even been instances where the Seekers on both sides were unable to catch the Golden Snitch, resulting in a fierce competition that lasted for several days.

Slytherin had been able to suppress Gryffindor because Gryffindor's Seekers were not as good as their Seekers, and Slytherin's Seekers always caught the Golden Snitch first.

In fact, in the previous matches, Gryffindor was leading Slytherin in the score before Slytherin caught the Golden Snitch, just not by such a large margin as 150.

It's important to know that Gryffindor's Chaser and Beaters are both very strong, especially the Gryffindor captain who just graduated last year—the most skilled Chaser, Charlie Weasley.

It is said that Charlie Weasley received an invitation from the British Quidditch team when he graduated, but he declined.

If Jerry doesn't perform as expected and the opposing Seeker catches the Golden Snitch first, then this match against Gryffindor could be dangerous.

His seven-year streak of defeating the Gryffindor brutes was about to end with his appointment as captain.

This is why Marcus is even more nervous than Jerry himself.

"Now, let's welcome the two teams of players onto the field!"

"Kidditch commentator Lee Jordan, a third-year Gryffindor wizard, announced loudly using the amplification charm."

As his voice faded, a deafening roar of cheers erupted from outside among the young wizards.

"Alright, time's up. Good luck everyone!"

Marcus mounted his flying broomstick and took off first, followed by Jerry riding Nimbus 2000, and then the other five team members.

On the field, the Gryffindor team, dressed in bright red Quidditch uniforms, and the Slytherin team, dressed in dark green robes, flew out quickly from opposite ends of the Quidditch pitch.

Then, after waving his hand in a flamboyant manner in the sky, he slowly landed on either side of Ms. Huo Qi, who was already standing in the center of the arena.

The atmosphere at the scene immediately reached a climax.

"Gryffindor!"

"Slytherin!"

Shouts rose and fell in waves.

However, it was clear that the cheers for Gryffindor were far louder than those for Slytherin.

There's no way around it; when it comes to popularity, the brave and warm-hearted Gryffindors are far more likable than the arrogant and disdainful Slytherins.

So, besides their respective houses, the cheers from Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff were mostly for Gryffindor.

However, when they looked closely at the players on both sides of the field, they noticed something was wrong.

That is, the Seeker for Slytherin was not Terence Higgs, who hadn't changed in four years, but a new face, a young wizard who obviously looked like a first or second year.

"That's Jerry! How did he become the Slater Team's Seeker?"

At that moment, Daphne and all the Slytherins in the stands gasped in surprise.

Meanwhile, in the Gryffindor stands, Hermione, Harry, and Ron, whom Jerry knew well, also let out similar gasps.

"Jerry, it's Jerry! Hermione, did you know Jerry became the Seeker for the first year?"

"I don't know, but that's impossible. He spends every weekend with me at the library, he's never gone to the Quidditch pitch for training!"

Hearing Harry and Ron's question, Hermione shook her head in disbelief.

"Oh, Merlin's beard, we've discovered that Slytherin has changed their Seeker! They've boldly appointed a new Seeker. Can anyone tell me what their new Seeker's name is?"

At that moment, the voice of commentator Lee Jordan could be heard again from the tower stands.

"What? His name is Jerry Carmen? Is he the Jerry who saved Professor Quirrell from the trolls? But if I remember correctly, he should still be a freshman."

Slytherin's bold decision to admit first-year students—is it an act of daring arrogance, or is there some special reason behind it? Let's wait and see!

With Lee Jordan's explanation, all the young wizards then realized that this new Seeker was the same Slytherin freshman who had saved Professor Quirrell from the trolls a week earlier on Halloween.

They had only heard of Jerry's name before, but not all of them had actually met him. Now, everyone in Hogwarts, including the wizards of Hogsmeade, knew him.

However, at this point, most people were not optimistic about the move to replace Terrence Higgs, who had five years of experience, with a freshman as the most important Seeker.

The older Slytherin wizards, in particular, mostly frowned.

On the field, Wood of the Gryffindor team whispered excitedly to his teammates:

"Play well in the next round, we've got this game in the bag!"

"Listen, I want everyone to compete fairly and honestly."

With a silver whistle in one hand and a broom in the other, Ms. Hooch glanced at both teams, especially at Marcus, the captain of Slytherin.

Because in past matches, this guy often committed fouls by taking advantage of his strength and size.

After saying that, she picked up the silver whistle and blew it sharply.

Instantly, all the members of both teams leaped into the air.

"The Quaffle was immediately caught by Angelina Jansen of Gryffindor—what an excellent chaser she is, and she's also very attractive—"

Lee Jordan's voice rang out again.

"The Golden Snitch has been released, Merlin! It's so fast, it disappeared in a flash! Oh, our Slytherin's Seek the Ball has activated! Did he discover the Golden Snitch?"

Oh, Merlin's underwear! What am I seeing? I must be seeing things. How could this be? Slytherin's new Seeker, Jerry, caught it! Caught the Golden Snitch!

Less than a minute has passed since the Golden Snitch was released; this is likely the fastest match in Quidditch history to end!
