Chapter 27 The Flourish and Blotts Scandal
Chapter 27 The Flourish and Blotts Scandal
Wes spent the entire holiday comfortably on the island. The island's seafood suffered, as the hardworking Jandy prepared a variety of exquisite dishes for her host.
The holiday was almost over, and Wes left the island three days early to return to his Hogwarts dormitory. After a whole holiday away, his room had a thin layer of dust. Thoughtful Jandy immediately transformed into a cleaner, giving the room a thorough cleaning.
While Jandy was cleaning the house, Wes decided to go to Flourish and Blotts to see if all the books he had asked the owner to collect had arrived.
As soon as Wes arrived at Diagon Alley, he saw that Flourish and Blotts was bustling with activity, the entire bookstore was filled with people, and there was a long queue at the door.
The procession stretched all the way into the street, like a long snake.
Over 90% of the group consisted of witches, each clutching a book tightly in their hands.
The witches huddled together, chatting softly. Whenever they got excited, they couldn't help but giggle, then, as if realizing their lapse in composure, they would quickly cover their mouths in embarrassment.
What good thing happened at the bookstore today?
Wes surveyed the bustling scene around him; he had never seen Flourish and Blotts so lively since he arrived at Hogwarts.
"Don't you know?"
A witch slightly raised her chin and looked Wes up and down as if he were a country bumpkin.
"Gidrolock Hart is having a book signing at Flourish and Blotts today."
"who??"
Wes frowned, and it took him a while to remember who this person was.
Gilderoy Lockhart, Britain's most famous explorer and writer.
The other witch proudly raised her head, as if she were incredibly proud to know this person.
She glanced at Wes with disdain and then ignored him, as if saying another word to him would be a waste of time.
Weiss was baffled; where did this strange sense of superiority come from?
Seeing the Flourish and Blotts bookstore packed with people, Wes shook his head helplessly. He had no desire to join in the fun.
"I'll come back when there are fewer people." So he turned around and went to Florin's Ice Cream Shop, ordered an ice cream, and sat there for a full hour.
When Wes emerged from the ice cream shop, the line outside Flourish and Blotts showed no signs of thinning. Having no other option, Wes used his privileges; as a VIP customer, he was able to cut in line with the owner's help.
Such actions naturally aroused dissatisfaction among others.
The witches glared angrily at them, muttering something under their breath.
But Wes didn't care at all; he just wanted to get the books he needed as soon as possible and leave this noisy place.
"All the books you need are on that bookshelf."
The boss gave a hurried greeting and then plunged back into his busy work. He was incredibly busy today, barely having a moment to rest.
Wes walked to the bookshelf and quietly browsed through the books. These books were all collected by Wes's boss at his request, and each one had its own unique value.
However, the screams that occasionally erupted from the autograph session nearby made it impossible for Wes to concentrate. The constant shrieks from the witches were a constant distraction.
Wes sighed helplessly, deciding to take the books back and read them at his leisure.
Just then, the noise from the autograph session caught Wes's attention.
"You are a disgrace to purebloods, making friends with Muggles!"
The person who said this is undoubtedly a supporter of the pure-blood theory.
"Heh~ The new Muggle protection law has you all scrambling to deal with it. Have you finished disposing of all the dark magic items in your house? Be careful, or I might catch you red-handed."
Another voice responded without backing down, its words dripping with sarcasm.
Are you threatening me?
Enraged, Lucius Malfoy nearly pushed Arthur Weasley to the ground.
"How dare you!" Molly Weasley was so angry that her face turned red, and she immediately threw the book in her hand at Lucius.
Lucius reacted quickly, tilting his head to dodge the attack.
"You..."
Arthur stood up, his body trembling slightly with anger.
"Beat him up, Dad!"
"Let's teach him a lesson!"
The Weasley twins shouted excitedly, constantly encouraging their father.
Their faces were full of anticipation, completely unafraid of making a big fuss.
"Shut up, you poor red-haired bastards..."
Draco Malfoy arrogantly raised his chin and sprayed venom indiscriminately.
Ron was enraged by his words and shoved Draco to the ground.
Lucius, disregarding his status as an adult, was about to attack Ron.
Arthur could no longer hold back and punched Lucius in the eye.
Lucius was stunned by the sudden attack. He paused for a moment, and then his anger was completely ignited.
He no longer cared about pure-blood honor or noble pride, and started fighting with Arthur.
The two fell to the ground in a disheveled manner, refusing to stop, like two mad beasts.
The area was crowded with onlookers, their faces displaying a variety of expressions as they watched the farce unfold.
The reporters who were covering the book signing event had their eyes light up when they saw this.
They quickly pointed their cameras at the two wrestling men and excitedly snapped many photos. For reporters, this would be excellent news material.
Gilderoy Lockhart also joined in, his face feigning concern. "Gentlemen, stop! There are still many books left; I promise everyone will get my autograph."
Then, he turned to the reporter and said softly, "This is a publicity stunt delivered right to my door. Just say that the Twenty-Eight Sacred Families fought each other over my new book. What a great gimmick!"
After saying that, he secretly slipped some money into the reporter's pocket. The reporter immediately understood and took several photos from different angles, including Lockhart, making it look as if Lockhart was trying to mediate the fight.
[Won't this book's sales explode?!]
Thinking of this, Lockhart's smile widened even more.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
A large group of female fans, gazing at Lockhart's charming smile, became infatuated, their eyes sparkling with adoration.
"Someone come quick and separate them!"
The bookstore owner intervened after seeing the two fighting and scaring away many customers.
Wes watched the farce unfold speechlessly.
"Separate immediately."
A flash of magical light separated Lucius and Arthur.
The two of them stood up, looking somewhat disheveled.
Lucius quickly straightened his robes to make himself look less disheveled.
However, his messy hair made him look somewhat comical, like a bird's nest blown about by the wind.
Arthur looked around and saw that the crowd of onlookers had surrounded them in layers.
Arthur, who always valued his image, felt utterly humiliated. [This was simply unseemly.]
"You're not going to have a good time in the Ministry of Magic from now on, Weasley!" Lucius yelled at Arthur.
Arthur did not back down in the face of Lucius's threat.
He puffed out his chest: "Don't think I don't know what you've done in the past, you..."
"Shut up!!"
Lucius interrupted Arthur loudly.
The two were about to start fighting again, and the atmosphere became tense once more.
"Gentlemen, you are blocking the door. Please move aside."
A calm voice rang out. Lucius and Arthur simultaneously turned their heads toward the source of the sound.
Lucius frowned when he saw that the young wizard was someone he didn't recognize.
"And who are you??"
Lucius looked accusatory.
"Professor Erwin! You're here too!"
Hermione greeted Wes warmly as soon as she saw him. She then formally introduced Alvin to her parents beside her.
"This is Professor Erwin, the teacher who teaches rune magic at our school."
Erwin greeted Hermione's parents with the courtesy due to an ordinary person, and the whole process was very proper.
Hermione's parents never expected that their daughter's magic school would have a professor who knew the manners of ordinary people.
"Hermione and I are both Muggle-born."
Seeing the somewhat surprised expressions on Hermione's parents' faces, Wes offered an explanation.
Lucius's lips curled into a disdainful smile: "Dumbledore has really gone senile, actually hiring a mud..."
Wes stepped forward and stared into Lucius's eyes.
"Mr. Malfoy, you've had your fill of the limelight today. How about we call it a day?"
Weiss spoke in a gentle tone and had a kind smile.
But Lucius felt a chill run down his spine, and the hairs on his body stood on end.
[How is this possible? Who exactly is this young wizard? Why do I feel the same oppressive aura emanating from him as I did from that other person?]
