Chapter 28 The Unexpectedly Obtained Diary

Chapter 28 The Unexpectedly Obtained Diary

The moment Lucius, who had been so arrogant just moments before, met Wes's gaze, an inexplicable panic welled up inside him. The next second, he desperately avoided Wes's eyes. Then, in a flustered manner, he hurriedly left Flourish and Blotts with Draco.

In his panic, he even forgot all his carefully planned actions. When Lucius finally calmed down, he reached up and touched his chest.

In that instant, his face turned deathly pale, as white as a sheet of paper devoid of any color. "Where are my things? Where did they go?"

In his desperation, Lucius could only frantically search his body with his hands. To his dismay, no matter how hard he searched, he couldn't find the thing he longed for.

"Oh no!!"

A strong sense of fear surged through Lucius. The thought of the possible consequences of losing the diary made his legs go numb, and he collapsed to the ground.

That diary was something that person entrusted to him for safekeeping.

"Dad, what's wrong?"

Draco looked at his father with a puzzled expression; he had never seen his father so flustered.

In his memory, his father had always been the elegant, composed, and aloof head of the Malfoy family; when had he ever lost his composure like this?

"It's nothing... I just lost something..."

Lucius tried to keep his voice calm; he didn't want Draco to worry.

However, his bloodless face and trembling legs were completely unconvincing.

Draco, seeing his father's condition, was filled with worry. He struggled to help Lucius up and asked, "Is it something valuable?"

"It's just a diary..."

Lucius forced a smile, trying to reassure Draco.

"A diary?" Draco frowned.

He really couldn't understand what was so important about a diary that his father would value it so much.

"If it's lost, it's lost. I can just buy a new one at the bookstore."

Draco said to his father with a somewhat naive air.

Upon hearing Draco's words, Lucius's eyes suddenly lit up, as if he had seen a glimmer of hope in the darkness.

"A bookstore? Flourish and Blotts!"

[It must have fallen into Flourish and Blotts during the fight.]

Thinking of this, Lucius seemed to regain his strength all at once, and he started jogging without caring about his image.

"Daddy, wait for me~~"

Draco watched his father's departing figure, then hurriedly took short steps and struggled to catch up.

Lucius put on his monocle as he ran.

This monocle is no ordinary pair of glasses; it's a magical artifact, one of its functions being to see into the distance.

Through these glasses, Lucius could see the distant scenery clearly.

His heart skipped a beat when his gaze, peering through his glasses, landed on the floor of Flourish and Blotts.

He saw the diary clearly.

"Yes!!"

Lucius excitedly threw a punch into the air. However, the next second, his smile froze on his face. He saw Wes pick up the diary from the floor.

"Damn it!!"

Lucius cursed inwardly, about to lash out, when he saw Wes nod at him.

He thought he was seeing things and quickly blinked.

Looking again, he saw that Wes was actually waving at him with his diary in hand.

Lucius gaped in astonishment.

His glasses fell off his eye sockets because he was so shocked.

"Huff~ Huff~"

Draco arrived, panting heavily.

Looking at his father's strange expression, he said with a puzzled look, "Dad, slow down, it's just a diary."

Lucius put his glasses back on and looked in Wes's direction.

He saw Wes talking to the Weasleys, and the scene seemed so ordinary. For a moment, Lucius even wondered if everything that had just happened was his imagination.

"Dad, what's wrong? You've been acting strange ever since we came out of the bookstore," Draco asked, puzzled.

"It's nothing." Lucius slowly exhaled, trying to calm himself down.

"Was that young man a professor at Hogwarts?"

"That's right! He's the school's magic rune professor."

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

Draco gets excited whenever Wes is mentioned.

He began to recount his experiences in the Forbidden Forest last semester: "Professor Irwin was amazing, in the Forbidden Forest..."

"Huh? The Forbidden Forest? Why would you be in a place like that?"

Realizing he had let something slip, Draco quickly shut his mouth, his panicked expression quite adorable.

"I didn't mean to lecture you." Lucius looked at Draco's nervous expression, his heart softening, and reached out to pat Draco's head. "Tell me about Professor Erwin, what kind of person was he?"

Lucius pondered to himself.

[It's probably about the same if the diary ends up in a professor's hands; it will eventually be taken back to Hogwarts.]

Thinking this way, Lucius felt a little more at ease. As long as the goal was achieved, the process didn't matter.

So he took Draco and left Diagon Alley.

Meanwhile, Wes declined the Weasleys' invitation to dinner. He had only one thought in his mind: to quickly study the diary he had just acquired.

Wes knew very well that this diary was the most crucial thing in the Harry Potter world—a Horcrux.

In the original books, Voldemort is the only wizard in existence who created Horcruxes.

The process of creating Horcruxes is extremely evil, requiring some very heinous act, such as murder, to cause the wizard's soul to split. Then, a part of the soul is taken out of the body and placed into an object outside the body; this object is the Horcrux.

In this way, no matter how severely the dark wizard is injured, he will not die.

However, once a soul is split, it becomes extremely unstable. The split soul cannot feel the pain of being destroyed, which also means that the creator cannot feel the Horcrux being destroyed.

Therefore, many dark wizards, even if they have the ability, are unwilling to create Horcruxes; they would rather die quickly.

No one has ever created multiple Horcruxes like Voldemort.

Based on Voldemort's cold-blooded, mindless, and insane behavior in the original books, compared to his early wisdom and intelligence, Wes speculated that creating Horcruxes would have an indelible impact on the soul and mind.

Wes had no interest in making Horcruxes, but he had a great interest in researching them.

After rushing back to his dormitory at Hogwarts, he couldn't wait to open the diary he had just acquired.

He thought for a while, then wrote in his diary, "It feels so good to be back at Hogwarts. It's like home."

However, the writing in the diary was not absorbed by the diary as Weiss had expected, nor did it receive any reply.

[It seems the senior is quite shy, but don't worry, there's plenty of time to take your time. Even if you don't figure anything out, you can still exchange some things with Dumbledore.]

He locked the notebook in a magic box, cast a spell on it, and then locked it in a drawer.
