Chapter 390 Leads Astray
Chapter 390 Leads Astray
"have not seen you for a long time."
Wes broke the silence first, his voice deep and magnetic, as if each word carried an invisible magic, echoing slowly in the somewhat empty top floor of the mage tower, making the atmosphere of the entire space even more mysterious and solemn.
Tony narrowed his eyes slightly, staring intently at Wes. His sharp gaze tried to read something from Wes's deep, unfathomable face, even the slightest emotional fluctuation. But Wes's face remained as calm as a still lake, leaving Tony with nothing. This only heightened Tony's vigilance.
Why?
Steve could no longer contain his anger. He clenched his fists, the veins bulging as if telling of his rage and resentment. His voice trembled slightly with agitation, "Why did you have to kill so many people?"
"Why? Why?"
Wes, however, spoke as if he had heard an insignificant question, his tone flat, merely raising an eyebrow slightly with a hint of doubt in his eyes.
"Why kill so many people?"
Steve gritted his teeth and repeated his question slowly and deliberately, his eyes fixed on Wes, as if trying to find an answer he could accept from him.
"They started it."
Wes shrugged, his face remaining calm and composed, as if stating something perfectly ordinary: "The war has begun."
"You're going to take on the entire United States by yourself??"
Tony's eyes widened in disbelief. He raised his voice, which rang out loudly in the enclosed space, "You have no idea what you're going to be facing."
Weiss interrupted him unhurriedly, raising his hand and waving it lightly, his tone carrying an undeniable certainty: "It's the US government that doesn't know what they're about to face."
As Wes made this move, a grand and breathtaking scene appeared out of thin air, suspended in mid-air.
That was during the Big Bang. The entire scene was filled with endless light and heat, as if it could break through the constraints of time and space, directly presenting the grandeur and chaos of the beginning of the universe to everyone.
Within that violent energy burst, six gems shone with strange light, each emanating a unique aura, representing six attributes: space, time, reality, power, mind, and soul. They seemed to be the six primordial forces bestowed upon all things by the universe, mysterious and powerful beyond imagination.
"Is that the Cosmic Cube??"
Tony and Steve spoke almost simultaneously, recognizing at a glance the gem that emitted a ghostly blue light, their eyes filled with shock.
Previously, they only knew that the Cosmic Cube possessed incredible power, but they never imagined that it was just one of these six mysterious gems, and that it had such a shocking origin.
"Its real name is the Space Stone..." Wes nodded slightly, his gaze falling on the blue gem, a peculiar light flashing in his eyes. He began to explain the origin of the Infinity Stones to the two of them. "Each stone contains the most primal and purest power in the universe. They are scattered in every corner of the universe, waiting to be discovered, or rather, waiting for a destined person to master them, after a long period of time."
"Collecting all six Infinity Stones will grant any wish," Wes's voice remained deep, but his words exploded like a bombshell in Tony and Steve's ears.
"Nonsense," Tony retorted immediately, frowning with suspicion and disdain. "How could such a ridiculous thing happen? It's not like that."
In his cognitive world, built on science and reason, such a statement was simply a fantasy, completely contradicting all the principles and logic he firmly believed in.
However, when he looked into Wes' eyes, he found that Wes' gaze was extremely serious, without the slightest hint of joking.
Tony's heart skipped a beat, and his voice unconsciously lowered: "You're serious."
Wes nodded, his eyes becoming deep. "The person behind Loki and the Chitauri is Thanos, a cosmic overlord obsessed with collecting the Infinity Stones."
As soon as he finished speaking, the scene instantly switched to a picture of Thanos leading his army to invade other civilizations.
The cosmic legion blotted out the sky, with all sorts of strangely shaped warships and creatures exuding powerful auras densely covering the entire starry sky. Wherever they went, planets were engulfed in war and left in ruins.
The destructive power displayed by the powerful cosmic army made Tony and Steve's expressions grow increasingly serious. They pursed their lips, their hearts filled with shock and worry.
Planet after planet was swiftly conquered under the iron heel of Thanos's army, and those once vibrant and prosperous worlds were instantly reduced to ruins. What stunned the two even more was that after conquering each planet, Thanos would wipe out half of its population.
Watching countless lives vanish in despair, turning into specks of light that drifted into the universe, Tony and Steve felt a chill run down their spines. They couldn't understand the reason for this, and their hearts were filled with anger and fear towards this so-called "cosmic overlord."
"Is he insane?"
Steve's eyes widened as he muttered to himself, his voice trembling slightly with barely suppressed emotion—a mixture of reluctance at the loss of life and anger at Thanos's cruelty.
They simply couldn't understand what reason could possibly drive someone to commit such a heinous act, which was beyond their comprehension.
It was as if a door to a world of darkness and madness had been opened, allowing them to see the cruelest side of the universe.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
Of course, Steve knew the reason, but he glanced at the shocked Tony and Steve and decided not to explain further.
"What does this have to do with Earth? Thor has already taken the Space Stone back to Asgard," Tony asked, frowning.
"There is another Time Stone on Earth."
"Shit!"
Tony couldn't help but mutter a curse under his breath, his face growing increasingly grim.
The thought of the enormous crisis that the Earth was about to face weighed heavily on his heart, as if a boulder were pressing down on it.
"That means Thanos could very well lead his army to attack Earth."
Steve clenched his fists, his eyes revealing an unprecedented seriousness.
That would be an unprecedented catastrophe. Earth would likely be reduced to ruins under Thanos's iron heel, and countless lives would perish, just like the planets they had just seen in the footage. They were not prepared, and before that, they were completely unaware of all this.
Tony's mind conjured images of Earth being invaded by the cosmic legion, cities collapsing under fire, people screaming and fleeing in despair, and the once vibrant blue planet reduced to utter ruin.
The thought of that powerful cosmic army one day descending upon Earth filled Tony with a sense of urgency, as if an invisible clock were ticking in his ears, each passing second fueling his growing anxiety.
I desperately want to go back immediately and tell the other superheroes this terrible news, so that we can all work together to devise a plan. Even if there is only a sliver of hope, we will do everything in our power to protect Earth and our home.
