Chapter 61 Obtaining the Map
Chapter 61 Obtaining the Map
"Hey guys, this isn't the place to argue," Wes said loudly, his face serious.
At this moment, more and more students were drawn by the commotion and gathered in the corridor, watching curiously. Especially when Draco and his Slytherin companions appeared, Harry felt a sense of urgency.
He didn't want Hermione and Ron to become the object of Draco's ridicule at that moment, so he quickly pulled them away.
Although Hermione and Ron were still bickering and harboring resentment, they didn't want to lose face in front of Draco and give him something to talk about.
Therefore, they reluctantly followed Harry out of the corridor.
Seeing that there was nothing exciting to see, the students gradually dispersed.
Wes watched them leave, muttering to himself, "I need to find a suitable opportunity to expose Pettigrew's identity as soon as possible."
-
Wes sat at his desk, examining the parchment in his hand carefully, turning it over and over. The parchment looked ordinary, but Wes could sense that it contained magical power.
The twin brothers watched Wes with smug expressions, thinking that if even Wes couldn't unravel the map's secrets, they could show off to the professor.
"Professor, what do you think? I'm afraid even you can't unravel the secrets on this map." Fred gave Wess a provocative, confident smile.
"It took us a lot of effort to activate it," George chimed in.
Wes remained expressionless as he laid the parchment flat on the table. He then extended his index finger and gently touched the parchment, his fingertip seemingly sensing subtle magical fluctuations in the air. He then whispered the incantation: "Reveal your true form."
As he finished speaking, the previously blank parchment began to glow faintly, and tiny characters gradually emerged. These characters seemed unwilling to give in easily, appearing and disappearing on the paper as if they were fighting against Wes.
Wess felt a strong magical resistance, so he focused his mind and condensed it into an even stronger force.
The text on the parchment became clearer and clearer, revealing a detailed map. The map was covered with countless tiny footprints, each marked with the name of the person who made it.
Wes carefully examined the magical map and quickly found his office on it, as well as his own and the twins' names, which updated in real time as the people moved.
This map accurately shows the location of everyone in Hogwarts, including the various rooms, corridors, staircases, classrooms, the Great Hall, and other regular areas of the castle, as well as secret passages and hidden rooms that many people are unaware of.
Turning the map over, Wes found a line of signatures in different handwriting: four strange nicknames: Moon Face, Worm Tail, Big Foot, and Fork.
The twin brothers stared wide-eyed, completely unprepared for Weiss's effortless deciphering of the map's secrets. They had assumed that even the other learned professors would struggle to unlock its secrets.
"The map is very cleverly designed," Wes explained to the twins while continuing to study it. "However, the creator was too weak at the time. With enough magic power, such magical artifacts could be easily deciphered."
"Hey, see? I told you Professor Irwin could handle it!" Fred said admiringly.
"It's incredible! The four senior students are amazing. They actually made such an amazing prop. They are our role models." George's eyes were fixed on the parchment, and you could almost see stars twinkling in his eyes.
The mischievous twins idolize the "Raiders" quartet (Remus Lupin, Peter Pettigrew, Sirius Black, and James Potter).
They hope that one day they can create amazing magical items just like these four senior students.
"Professor, your Alchemy Notebook has given us a lot of inspiration," Fred said, his words filled with a thirst for knowledge, revealing his deepest dream. "We also want to create magical artifacts of this caliber, as magical as this Marauder's Map."
"However, no matter how many methods we tried, even staying up all night to research, the result was always failure."
George slumped his shoulders, his brow furrowed, and his voice carried a hint of resentment. Every failure reminded them of the gap between themselves and their idols.
The four predecessors were able to create Marauder's Map from scratch, while the twin brothers couldn't make a copy even if they tried to imitate the original, which was a huge blow to them.
This is not because the twins are less talented than the Marauders. After all, the Potter and Black families have a history spanning hundreds of years. James and Sirius were exposed to alchemy from a young age and received guidance from their family elders, while the twin brothers often had to rely on their own exploration to progress.
Wes understood their feelings, so he gently comforted the twins for a few moments, and then began to explain the magical knowledge used in the Marauder's Map to them. He analyzed the magical principles and creation techniques behind the map in simple and easy-to-understand language, which greatly benefited the twin brothers.
Time passed by unnoticed, and as bedtime approached, the twins were still reluctant to leave.
"You don't want to get caught by Filch, do you? Let's continue tomorrow. By the way, how about I borrow this map for a few days?"
"No problem, Professor, we know the secret passages and hidden rooms on the map by heart," the twin brothers readily agreed.
After the twins left, the office became quiet again.
Wes stared at the name "Peter Pettigrew" marked next to Ron on the map, as if he had thought of something.
The next morning, a sudden chaos shattered the tranquility of Harry and Ron's bedroom, the scene so chaotic it could only be described as a complete uproar.
Ron's eyes widened, his face flushed red with rage. "When did this damn stupid cat sneak in?" he yelled, his voice echoing in the cramped room, as he frantically tried to shoo Crookshank out with a pillow.
The large ginger cat, however, nimbly dodged every attack from Ron.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
At this moment, Banban's small body was trembling. It scurried around the dormitory, its little paws making rapid "tap-tap" sounds on the floor, doing its best to avoid being caught by Crookshan.
Finally, at the most critical moment, Banban seized a tiny opportunity and darted out through the crack in the door like a bolt of lightning.
Upon seeing this, Crookshan immediately gave chase without hesitation and quickly disappeared at the end of the corridor.
"Why does this ugly cat always keep bothering Scabbers? Hermione must have made it do this." Ron got out of bed angrily, his hair disheveled and his pajamas askew.
His eyes burned with rage, as if he were about to confront Hermione and demand an explanation.
Harry looked at Ron and could only shrug helplessly. "When will this ever end?"
Although Crookshank is usually very intelligent, with a keen sense of its surroundings and excellent hunting instincts, it is still somewhat inferior when facing a cunning opponent like Peter Pettigrew.
Peter Pettigrew, with his cunning, escaped Crook Mountain's pursuit time and time again. This time, Peter Pettigrew succeeded in escaping once more.
Crookshank stood still, carefully sniffing the air, his nose twitching slightly as he tried to find Peter Pettigrew.
However, no clues were left in the air.
It meowed a few times in frustration, then wagged its tail helplessly and left the scene.
However, besides Peter Pettigrew, there are others who are equally cunning.
Wes used the Disillusionment Charm to silently follow Crookshank, his figure becoming indistinct under the influence of his magic.
