Chapter 65 I've Got You
Chapter 65 I've Got You
Sirius grabbed Peter by the collar and lifted him up. "Long time no see, Peter!" he said through gritted teeth, his face turning a deep purplish-red, veins bulging on his forehead.
"Sirius??" Peter Pettigrew was initially incredulous.
He then quickly surveyed his surroundings, trying to find an opportunity to escape.
"Lupin?? Dumbledore?? This is the Headmaster's office??" Upon realizing where he was, Peter Pettigrew actually cried out to Lupin and Dumbledore for help: "Help me!! Sirius has gone mad!!"
"How dare you???" Sirius Black never expected Peter Pettigrew to turn the tables on him.
"You betrayed James!!" Sirius roared, spitting all over Peter Pettigrew's face.
"It's you!!" The two argued incessantly, their voices echoing in the principal's office.
Wes tossed a vial of potion to Lupin: "Verbal Aid."
Lupin grabbed Peter Pettigrew's cheek, forced him to open his mouth, and then poured an entire bottle of truth serum into it.
"What did you give me to drink???" Peter Pettigrew kept gagging his throat, trying to vomit up what he had drunk.
Then, his gaze began to lose focus little by little, and he slowly fell into a daze. His body gradually relaxed, and finally he collapsed to the ground.
"Who is James and Lily's confidant?" Lupin asked impatiently, voicing the truth he most wanted to know.
"It's me." Peter Pettigrew's voice was flat and indifferent, as if he were telling a story unrelated to himself. "That megalomaniac Sirius thought he was foolproof."
Sirius's guilt was palpable; he was once again plunged into deep self-reproach.
A weight lifted from Lupin's shoulders, and he asked, "Why did you betray us?"
"Because I'm afraid, Black... Voldemort." Despite the effects of the Veritaserum, Peter Pettigrew still dared not call him by his name. "He's too terrifying. Why give me such a difficult task? I'm just a nobody, how could I possibly deal with the Dark Lord?"
"Nobody asked you to deal with Voldemort, I just asked you to keep it a secret!" Sirius shook Peter Pettigrew's body vigorously.
Peter Pettigrew appeared calm under the influence of the potion: "What if the Death Eaters find me and torture me? I can't stand their torture, so I had no choice but to tell the Dark Lord James and Lily's address. It's all Sirius's fault; if he hadn't been so clever, none of this would have happened."
Sirius and Lupin couldn't believe their ears; they never imagined that their companion, with whom they spent every day, would be such a coward.
Sirius burst into tears: "It's all my fault. If it weren't for me, James and Lily wouldn't have sacrificed themselves."
Lupin watched this scene unfold, his heart filled with mixed emotions. He said to Peter Pettigrew with disappointment, "You coward!"
After the truth came out, Sirius Black successfully proved his innocence, but he was not happy.
A heavy sense of guilt pounded against his heart like a surging tide.
His arrogance, the decision he once considered correct, has now become an indelible wound in his heart.
Because of his mistake, he had caused the death of his best friend. This pain pierced his heart deeply, making it almost impossible for him to breathe.
In those dark moments, he even contemplated suicide to escape the inner pain and torment, as if only in this way could he find relief.
Lu stood quietly to the side, watching Sirius, who was lost in deep self-reproach. His lips moved slightly, as if he wanted to say something to comfort him, but he didn't know where to begin. The words seemed to be stuck in his throat, and he couldn't bring himself to speak.
He could only watch Sirius silently, hoping that he could pull himself out of this abyss of pain, when suddenly he thought of something.
"Harry," Lupin's sudden voice broke the oppressive silence, "Have you seen Harry? He looks exactly like James, except his eyes... his eyes are just like Lily's."
Whenever Lupin mentions Harry, he always unconsciously reveals his affection for Harry and his deep longing for the past, which is probably also filled with his deepest remembrance of his deceased friend.
"Harry~ Harry~" Sirius murmured the name repeatedly. For him, the name was not just a title, but the only light in his boundless dark world.
As Lupin finished speaking, Sirius's eyes gradually changed. His previously dull pupils regained their luster. The name Harry was like a ray of sunshine in winter, piercing through the thick clouds and illuminating a long-dormant corner of his heart.
"That's right," Lupin patted Sirius on the shoulder. "You are Harry's godfather. Although James has left us, this responsibility now falls on your shoulders. You must take on the responsibility of being a father."
Lupin looked at Sirius's face, haggard with self-reproach, and felt a pang of pity. For Harry's sake, and for the sake of their precious friendship, he knew Sirius would rise again.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
Because he is a brave and strong person, as long as he is willing, he will definitely be able to get out of this painful memory and embrace the light again.
"I'm going to find Harry..." Sirius jumped up from his seat. He couldn't wait to leave the headmaster's office. He wanted to see Harry so badly that every second of waiting was torture for him.
Seeing this, Lu Ping quickly stepped forward and grabbed his arm.
"Your wanted posters are plastered everywhere. If you go out like this, you'll definitely be recognized. Not only will you be in danger, but you might also implicate Harry."
Lupin's words were not an exaggeration; Sirius's current situation was indeed very precarious, and the consequences would be dire if he were discovered.
"But I can't wait any longer, Lupin," Sirius's voice was pleading. "I have to see Harry right away. He's too important to me."
"Don't worry, Black. Now that Peter Pettigrew has been caught, your crimes will soon be cleared."
Dumbledore continued, "Going out like this will only frighten Harry. What we need is patience and to let things unfold in the right order."
Dumbledore's words were like a stabilizing force. He fully understood Sirius's anxiety, but he also knew that acting impulsively would only bring more trouble.
