Chapter 7: The Opening Day of School, a Lively Ceremony
Chapter 7: The Opening Day of School, a Lively Ceremony
The annual back-to-school season has arrived as scheduled, and Platform 9¾ is now densely packed with students and parents who have come to see them off.
The noisy sounds rose and fell, creating a lively and bustling scene.
"A nostalgic scene." A few years ago, Weiss was one of these many students.
Now, however, he has boarded the Hogwarts Express as a professor, a sight that evokes a sense of感慨 (gǎnkǎi, mixed feelings of emotion and reflection).
Weiss boarded the train with a calm stride and then entered the single carriage reserved for the professor.
The moment the car door closed, it was as if an invisible barrier instantly blocked out all the noise from the outside world.
Presumably, some kind of soundproofing magic must have been applied to the car door to achieve such an effect.
Weiss nodded in satisfaction, then quickly took out his paper and began studying it with complete concentration, his pen occasionally scribbling something in his notebook, his expression focused and absorbed.
With a "whoosh," the train slowly started moving, carrying students full of anticipation and longing, heading towards Hogwarts.
As Wes was completely absorbed in his studies, a sudden, urgent knocking sounded at the door.
Wes frowned slightly, looked up with displeasure, and said helplessly, "Please come in."
The door was gently pushed open, and a boy and a girl stood timidly in front of it.
The boy timidly hid behind the girl. When he saw that there was an adult in front of him, he trembled even more and buried his head deep in his chest, as if he wanted to hide himself.
The girl clearly hadn't expected to encounter an adult on this train, which was almost entirely filled with students, especially since she was in a separate carriage.
"Sir, have you seen a toad? Neville's toad has gone missing."
Neville cautiously tugged at her sleeve and said carefully, "This gentleman must be a professor at Hogwarts; we should be more polite."
"Excuse me, sir." Hermione, with her sharp eyes, immediately spotted the paper on the table and became excited. "Sir, are you researching magic? That's wonderful! I've never seen real magical research before. May I?"
Hermione's mouth rattled off one question after another, her excitement causing her to completely forget the original purpose of her visit.
Wes felt a throbbing in his head and a headache coming on, so he had to interrupt Hermione: "Excuse me, miss, I don't know who you are."
"My name is Hermione Granger, and this is Neville Longbottom. We are both first-year students at Hogwarts."
Hermione showed no stage fright when faced with the adults' questions, and introduced herself confidently.
"Miss Granger, I didn't see a toad. And, as you can see, I'm busy. Could you please close the door? Thank you."
After Weiss finished speaking, he stopped looking at the two of them and turned his attention back to the paper in his hands.
"Excuse me, sir, I'm sorry to bother you."
Before Hermione could continue speaking, Neville displayed an agility far beyond his stature, quickly pulling Hermione out of the carriage and not forgetting to close the door behind him.
Hermione pouted, her face full of anger and grievance: "What?! How can someone so cold-hearted become a professor?"
After saying that, he turned and left in a huff, his short legs carrying him away, with Neville following closely behind without a word.
Without the two people's interference, Weiss remained engrossed in his studies until the train smoothly pulled into the station, completely focused.
After getting off the train, Wes walked briskly and soon arrived at Hogwarts.
He went to his office on the seventh floor. The room was simply furnished, but very tidy.
Weiss opened the box, and Jandy crawled out.
"I've already spoken with Headmaster Dumbledore. During my term, you are free to move around at Hogwarts, but please remember not to disturb the other professors and students."
"As you command, master."
Wes put on a brand new robe, stood in front of the mirror, and carefully examined himself from head to toe.
"I have to go to the opening ceremony. You tidy up here."
The Great Hall of Hogwarts is magnificent and spectacular, with its towering ceiling seemingly reaching up to the vast and boundless starry sky.
The ceiling was magically transformed into a vast night sky, with countless twinkling stars that shone like brilliant gems.
Four huge, long tables were neatly arranged, with students from the four colleges seated on them.
Large portraits of past principals hang on the walls around the hall, their lifelike expressions seemingly watching everything happening below.
The floor is meticulously paved with smooth, mirror-like marble, which clearly reflects people's images, just like a giant mirror.
The flags of the four houses were hung in the four corners of the hall: red for Gryffindor, green for Slytherin, blue for Ravenclaw, and yellow for Hufflepuff. The flags fluttered gently in the breeze, vividly displaying the glory of their respective houses.
Hundreds of candles floated gracefully in the air, emitting a warm and soft glow that illuminated the entire hall as brightly as day.
The students, dressed in their respective college robes, sat at four long tables in bright colors, each with an excited and expectant smile on their face.
Wes' arrival immediately drew everyone's attention.
"who is he?"
"Idiot, it must be the new professor. Didn't you see him sitting with the other professors?"
"So young, so handsome!"
A group of little witches chattered and commented on Wes, their eyes full of admiration.
Flitwick excitedly stood on tiptoe and tried to give Wes a big hug, but he was too short, so Wes had to bend down slightly to match his movements.
Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!
"Long time no see, Dean."
Flitwick, beaming, patted Wes's arm warmly: "Oh, how does it feel to have my most prized student back at Hogwarts as a professor?"
"That's fantastic!" Wes' eyes gleamed with excitement. "After graduation, I've thought about coming back here every single moment, Dean."
"I doubt your ability to become a qualified professor, Mr. Erwin," Snape's distinctive and peculiar voice drifted over.
"Don't listen to Snape's nonsense, you'll be a qualified professor." Flitwick smiled and pulled Wes aside, warmly introducing him to the other professors.
In fact, even without his introduction, the professors all had a deep memory of Weiss, this diligent student.
The professors welcomed Weiss back, and everyone was genuinely happy that this outstanding graduate was returning.
Wes also met his new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher for the new semester—Quirinus Quirrell.
Professor Quirrell wore a purple headscarf that emitted a strange smell that made people keep their distance from him.
However, at this moment he was clinging tightly to Snape, muttering something to himself.
Just then, the gate opened, and the first-year students walked in in an orderly line.
The Sorting Hat, sitting on a chair in the middle of the hall, suddenly began to sing with great enthusiasm.
However, that unique voice was really hard to appreciate.
The annual college selection ceremony has now begun.
Besides seeing the funny moments of freshmen making fools of themselves due to nervousness, this year everyone's attention was focused on the boy who miraculously survived.
When the Sorting Hat, after some deliberation, finally declared that Harry Potter belonged to Gryffindor, the students of Gryffindor erupted in a deafening cheer, so enthusiastic it seemed to lift the roof off the castle.
Professor McGonagall wore a radiant smile, and even the usually serious Dumbledore smiled with satisfaction.
Snape's expression darkened further.
However, these things have little to do with Wes.
Under Dumbledore's direction, everyone sang the Hogwarts school song in their favorite tunes, creating a scene that was nothing short of a mind-numbing experience. Wes wished he could immediately plug his ears with a spell.
Afterward, Dumbledore solemnly recounted some important points for the new semester and introduced the two new professors to the students, then announced that everyone could begin their meal.
After the opening ceremony, Wes quietly breathed a sigh of relief.
He doesn't actually like crowded or noisy environments.
Fortunately, the courses he taught were very unpopular, and not many students enrolled in them, which made him feel a little fortunate.
