Chapter 71 Departure

Wes leisurely reached into his pocket with his right hand and pulled out a small, exquisite pocket. He pinched one corner of the pocket and then gave it a gentle shake. The next second, a crisp, clear tinkling sound came from the pocket, a sound that was exceptionally distinct and pleasant.

Jonathan had always prided himself on his keen hearing, and almost the instant the sound rang out, his ears perked up. He accurately recognized it as the unique sound of gold coins clinking together, and his eyes lit up.

Wes casually tossed the bag to Jonathan, who hurriedly reached out and carefully caught it. When he eagerly opened the bag, the glittering light of the dozens of gold coins almost made him dizzy. He stared blankly at the large handful of gold coins in his hand.

"This is my sincerity," Wes said calmly. "Finding the legendary Hamunaptra is no easy task; it requires a lot of preparation. Consider this my investment."

Jonathan gripped his pocket tightly, still somewhat hesitant. His gaze shifted between the gold coins and Wes, his thoughts racing like a windmill.

This amount of gold coins is considerable; even after purchasing equipment, a large sum will still be left. Even if he doesn't find Hamunaptra's treasure, he can still squander these gold coins for quite some time.

But if the treasure is found, and Wes doesn't take most of it as agreed, the loss would be enormous.

Jonathan was caught in an internal struggle. On the one hand, the gold coins in front of him were undoubtedly a huge sum of money, but on the other hand, he was unwilling to give up the potential for enormous wealth.

A conflicted expression appeared on his face, his brows furrowed slightly, and two little voices were arguing in his mind.

"Jonathan, I think you can tell that I'm not short of money, and I have no interest in money."

While Wes's statement might sound pretentious, it was the truth.

Evelyn and Jonathan were so angry upon hearing this that they gritted their teeth and looked like they wanted to punch someone.

He thought to himself, "This guy is so annoying, I'm so envious!"

"If we reach Hamunaptra, I will only take two things; the rest of the treasure is yours," Wes said again, making his promise.

"Is everything you said true?!" Jonathan asked with some skepticism.

"Absolutely true."

Upon hearing this, Jonathan immediately grabbed Wes's hand, as if afraid he would change his mind.

Evelyn, watching from the side, also breathed a sigh of relief. She knew Jonathan's personality; he always became unusually sensitive when it came to treasure.

The three then set off together for the prison.

Along the way, Jonathan kept introducing the person they were looking for to Wes and Evelyn.

"That guy was a deserter; he was caught and locked up here."

The prison environment was dark and damp, with a musty and rusty smell permeating the air.

Jonathan used money to pave the way and soon met the male lead, O'Connor.

Two jailers roughly pinned him down and forcibly dragged him out, forcing O'Connor to kneel on the ground.

He looked somewhat haggard, with disheveled hair, his face covered in dirt, and unhealed wounds on his body.

O'Connor recognized Jonathan immediately. He glared at him and shouted, "You thief!"

Evelyn hurriedly took out a black box and placed it in front of O'Connor. The box looked somewhat ancient and carried a mysterious aura.

"Where did you get this?"

O'Connor immediately recognized it as the mysterious box she had brought from Hamunaptra. "This is what I brought from Hamunaptra."

Evelyn's eyes lit up, and she excitedly crouched down to meet O'Connor's gaze.

"You've been to Hamunaptrama?? Hamunaptrama really exists??"

"certainly."

"Tell me how to get to Hamunaptra," Evelyn asked again, her voice filled with urgency.

"Come closer," O'Connor said mysteriously.

Evelyn thought O'Connor would reveal the secret, so she approached the fence without hesitation, but to her surprise, O'Connor suddenly kissed her.

Upon seeing this, the jailer nearby was enraged and struck O'Connor hard on the back with a stick, followed by a barrage of punches and kicks.

O'Connor was dragged away like a dead dog, yelling, "If you want to get to Hamunaptra, rescue me!! I'm about to be executed!! If I die, you'll never find Hamunaptra."

Evelyn was startled by the sudden kiss, standing there dumbfounded, her face flushed, unable to calm down for a long time.

Jonathan, realizing what was happening, quickly pulled Evelyn along to find the warden. In the end, they paid 10 gold coins to bail O'Connor out of prison.

"You better really know where Hamunaptra is, or you'll regret it." Jonathan counted the remaining gold coins with a pained expression. He hadn't even set off yet, and he had already spent 10 gold coins. His heart was bleeding.

O'Connor breathed in the fresh air, and although he was free, he smelled terrible, making people afraid to approach him.

"Give me some money," O'Connor said to Jonathan without any politeness.

Jonathan clutched his pocket tightly and asked warily, "What are you doing?"

Not a single mistake, not a single poem, not a single post, not a single piece of content, not a single look!

"Purchase weapons and equipment," O'Connor shrugged. "You don't want to go to Hamnata empty-handed, do you?"

Jonathan was worried about O'Connor, so he went with him to buy equipment.

Evelyn stared blankly at O'Connor, her thoughts a mystery.

Wes took her back to the hotel, and a few hours later, O'Connor and Jonathan returned with bags and packages.

"Bang!" O'Connor slammed a package onto the table. When he opened it, it was full of various guns.

Long and short bullets of all types, and even bundles of explosives can be seen.

"My God!!" Evelyn exclaimed, "Did you empty the armory?"

"Huff...huff..." Jonathan slumped in his seat, panting heavily. He was exhausted from the shopping trip. "You...ask him."

Evelyn turned her gaze to O'Connor, who had cut her long hair and tidied herself up.

He was wearing simple overalls and a white shirt, which perfectly showcased his muscular physique, making him look very attractive.

As O'Connor loaded the guns, he felt Evelyn's gaze and looked up at her. "Hamnatha isn't a safe place. There's a tough group of guards there."

Evelyn looked away shyly, but she gained a deeper understanding of O'Connor's professionalism.

Wes was also observing O'Connor, sensing a faint but powerful force emanating from her.

"If it's not magic, what kind of power is this?" Wes wondered to himself.

O'Connor looked at Wes: "Who are you?"

"An ancient Egyptian history enthusiast," Weiss simply stated his identity without further explanation.

O'Connor sized up Wes's thin frame: "You're too weak. The desert will kill you." In his eyes, Wes looked like a rich young master who couldn't even kill a chicken.

"I have the ability to protect myself," Wes replied calmly.

"Is that so? Then do as you please."
