Demigod Mage in America

Chapter 11 The Last Day of Life

Toby held the US dollars in his hand, and at a glance, it looked like he had a full 300 dollars in cash.

This amount of money might not be enough to rent a place, nor enough to change the course of his life.

But if you're just looking to make the most of the last day of your life, that's more than enough.

The last day...

He looked toward where Raine had been, where there was no one now.

A mysterious agency, a mysterious boss—he still doesn't even know the other party's name.

Toby, carrying the money and medicine, staggered toward the tent.

His wife, Jesse, is taking care of their child.

"Honey, I'm home."

He gave an awkward smile, his throat filled with bitterness.

"What's wrong? What happened? Did some gang members bully you again?"

"No, it's nothing."

"Didn't you get your food aid? Should I call Terry...?"

"No need, honey, let's go eat something different today."

His wife was clearly bewildered by his sudden change, especially when he pulled out 300 yuan.

"My God, are you going to do something illegal?"

"Hey darling, you know me, how could I do such a thing?"

Toby acted as if nothing had happened, chatting with his wife.

After decades of marriage and mutual understanding, he easily succeeded in persuading her.

Taking her daughter to a retail clinic made her fever less of a hassle with the help of money.

With the help of fever-reducing medication, she was able to wake up and call for her parents two hours later.

Seeing his wife's happy smile, Toby smiled too, but his smile lacked warmth.

Until a sentence suddenly rang in my ears.

"Cheer up on your last day, Mr. Toby. After all, it was your choice. Rather than leaving in sorrow, leave them with your best."

It's that mysterious boss!

Toby recognized the voice, but after looking around, he couldn't see the person.

Considering the miraculous methods employed, he had no choice but to abandon this foolish act.

He's right!

I'm about to leave; it might be tomorrow, or the day after tomorrow, if not today.

Rather than letting them receive the devastating news of their own death, it's better to leave them with a beautiful memory.

So he changed his previous dejected state and began to cater to his wife and daughter.

They bought the cheapest food and changed into secondhand clothes that had been picked over, but that genuine smile was something many people lack.

Its name is love.

It was afternoon soon, and Toby, following Ryan's instructions, had his wife walk to the vicinity of the subway station and drink the medicine.

Although he didn't understand why, considering that amazing ability, he chose to do as instructed.

Shortly after drinking the medicine, he saw a pinkish gas emanating from his wife's body, but those around them ignored it.

She didn't open her eyes until an elderly woman, who looked quite old, mistook her wife for someone who was ill.

The pink mist was inhaled into the old woman's nostrils, and at that moment, both of their eyes glazed over.

Toby, who was standing to the side, had no idea what was going on until he saw Ryan suddenly appear next to him.

His daughter, who was holding his hand, didn't react much; it seemed as if she was the only one in the world who could see him.

"That lady's son died in the army, and she has no heirs. Your wife will become her adopted daughter and take care of her for the rest of her life. After that, she and your daughter will inherit each other's wealth, which will be enough for them to live out their lives."

As he spoke, Ryan looked at the homeless man, who was his first customer.

As mentioned before, he can offer a 20% discount, which is a good thing to do when opening a business.

"Your daughter will meet the love of her life in her twenty-third year, she will have three children and live to be 72."

As soon as he finished speaking, Toby next to him suddenly turned his head to look at him.

"You—you're saying...it's true?"

"I'm not lying."

After saying this, Ryan stopped talking and looked at the two ladies who were having a pleasant conversation.

He saw all of this using his divination skills. A normal mage would make contact with an extraordinary being and obtain a fragment of information from that being.

But for him, there was no need for such trouble; he could simply extract a segment from the river of time and browse through it himself.

Unfortunately, he is too weak now. He can only see other people's futures, not his own, and he needs the other person's personal belongings, such as hair.

Otherwise, he really wanted to see what the extraordinary level of this world was like.

However, he rarely does that, because it would be very boring.

Knowing everything is worse than knowing nothing at all.

The unknown often means interesting, while omniscience means boring.

Of course, he can only see a partial future now, if the other person's life journey goes according to what he sees.

So what Renne saw was the established fact, but if something unexpected happened, it would be hard to say.

But it's okay, he has after-sales service.

For the rest of the time, Ryan watched as Toby helped his wife move her luggage into the old woman's house, like a spectator.

However, Toby smiled when the other party invited him.

He hugged his wife and kissed his daughter.

"I'm going on a long trip."

"Why? Why are we..."

"Hey sweetheart, don't be like that. Everything has a price, right? I took something from someone today, so I have to pay for it."

Toby's wife assumed he was talking about a business trip or going to work elsewhere, and didn't think much of it.

After a long farewell kiss, Toby said goodbye to his family.

He walked into the woods in the park and called out to Ryan.

At this time, there were still 30 minutes until midnight.

"Boss, you should be here, right?"

"Yes, I've always been here."

Raine appeared beside him, still wearing the same robe and with the same face.

"There's still some time. Is there anything you wish for?"

Toby thought very seriously about whether he had any unfulfilled wishes.

"Anything is fine?"

"We can't go too far, after all, this part is already a discount, customer."

Toby smiled and nodded. After accepting his inevitable death, he became much more open-minded.

"I want to punch that bastard!"

"Oh?"

"He used to be my best friend. I lent him three thousand dollars, but when I asked him for help, he and his black friends beat me up!"

Ryan nodded, not pressing further, but instead asked another question.

"Just one punch?"

"Um!"

"Give me his address."

Toby gave an address.

An old apartment building on 98th Street, east of Fifth Avenue.

Without hesitation, Ryan led him away from where he stood and to the location Toby had indicated.

As soon as I stepped out of the portal, I heard a burst of gunfire.

"The suspect is armed with an automatic weapon! Repeat, the suspect is armed with an automatic weapon! Requesting backup."
