Demigod Mage in America

Chapter 12 Free America

Catherine wiped the sweat from her forehead, feeling utterly unlucky.

To pay off her debts, she had to wear a security guard uniform, specifically a night shift security guard.

She works at a bar in a Latino community for $25 an hour, two hours each night.

Although she knew from the price her employer offered that this job wouldn't be easy, she never imagined that less than a week into her job, she would encounter a madman who was shooting at her with an automatic rifle.

Catherine gripped her cell phone tightly—the walkie-talkie had already been handed over, and she was reporting her situation to the operator.

"A shooting occurred at the Oak Ferry bar at the intersection of 98th Street and Fifth Avenue. Three people have been shot down, and the suspect is still looting the area."

The operator confirmed the address with him, and after a brief silence...

"SWAT officers and nearby patrol officers are on their way and are expected to arrive in 2 minutes. Do you have any first aid or law enforcement background?"

"I am NYPD Constable Katherine Field. I am on leave, without police equipment, and witnessed the entire incident."

Catherine peeked out from behind the cover while communicating with the operator.

There was a burly man on the street with a bulbous nose, a ruddy complexion, and a drunken look in his eyes.

"I have evacuated some of the crowd, and the suspect is still wandering the streets."

"Okay, I understand. Officer Field, please provide details about the suspect."

"A white male, wearing a black jacket and casual sweatpants, white socks and flip-flops, was carrying a gun! I can't determine the type of weapon!"

"Okay, officer, your backup is on its way."

Before the operator could finish speaking, police sirens blared from the side.

Catherine and the gunman noticed this at the same time.

The next moment, something unexpected happened.

The gunman raised his gun, aimed it at the police car, and pulled the trigger. Instantly, gunfire erupted and flashes of light appeared.

Da da da!

"The suspect is armed with an automatic weapon. Requesting backup! Repeat!"

The police officer in the car had just finished speaking and was about to lie down when a bullet shattered the windshield and hit him right between the eyebrows.

The police officer died on the spot without uttering a sound.

Catherine watched from the side, her face turning pale, but at the same time, a surge of anger involuntarily welled up from the bottom of her heart.

These damn bastards!

After firing his gun, the gunman stood in the middle of the road cursing and swearing, his hand still on the trigger, the gunshots ringing out in one continuous burst.

Because the other person's speech was unclear, Catherine couldn't hear what he was saying.

But she knew that if things continued like this, before her other colleagues arrived, there would likely be more deaths among the crowd.

"Officer shot dead, gunman begins indiscriminate firing!"

No sooner had she finished speaking than a Black man, who had been watching the commotion, leaned out of the window. Before Catherine could even stop him, she saw the Black man's mouth gape open.

"Hey bro~ Are you so angry because your mom doesn't love you anymore?"

Upon hearing this, Catherine knew she was in trouble, but it was too late.

She had no choice but to keep repeating what she had just said on the phone, while trying to get up to distract the gunman.

"Damn it!!"

Da da da—

Bang... Crash!

The sight of the body falling from four meters away left Catherine frozen in shock.

Courage comes from equipment, but unfortunately she is now unarmed.

The gunman spotted Catherine, a sinister grin spreading across his face as he turned his gun to shoot the female security guard.

Although the other person was good-looking, at this moment, all he could think about was releasing the bullets in his magazine.

However, before he could pull the trigger, a spatial rift suddenly opened behind him.

Although she didn't see anyone come out, Catherine thought of someone.

Rennes!

That mysterious Eastern man!

"Excuse me, is this the place, sir?"

Renn looked around and realized that the environment here was not as good as his apartment.

The American environment is too fragmented; a single avenue or a few blocks can completely change the atmosphere on either side.

The building is old, with gaudy graffiti on the walls and foul-smelling garbage everywhere.

Of course, there were also corpses lying flat on the ground.

"Boss, that's him."

Toby pointed at the gunman, his face barely concealing his anger.

If the other party had paid him back the debt, he might not have had his car seized by the court, nor would he have ended up homeless with his family of three.

Go do what you want to do.

Raine cast an invisibility spell on the two of them, so others could only see the open crack, but not the two people.

After all, modern satellites are so advanced, what if they accidentally shine a light on him?

However, once he arrived, the risk was eliminated. Ryan left behind a phantom barrier, and everyone looking in from the outside would see that everything was normal, with bustling street culture and a normal nightlife.

He deactivated his invisibility spell and met Catherine's gaze.

"Hi."

Catherine was a little embarrassed by Ryan's very natural greeting.

She lowered her head and gathered her disheveled hair.

Hi...hi.

After greeting her, Ryan ignored the policewoman and turned to look at Toby.

Because the gunman was pointing his gun at him, Toby froze in place.

Ryan realized this wouldn't do; the client's last wish was to punch the other party.

How can we fail to satisfy our customers over such a trivial matter?

He snapped his fingers, and his servants rushed forward, disarming the gunman in the blink of an eye.

At the same time, an elbow struck his ribs, the immense force causing the gunman's face to turn pale, and his body curled up into a ball, bending over.

"Go, guest. I told you to do what you want."

Although he didn't know what had happened, Toby knew that it was Ryan who had made the move.

So all his anger was channeled into his fist.

"No, Toby! We're friends..."

boom!

"Fuck your friends! I have nothing to do with scum like you."

The heavy punch became the final straw that broke the camel's back.

The gunman was knocked unconscious by his punch and eventually collapsed to the ground.

Ryan nodded to the stunned policewoman and then left with Toby.

The transaction is complete; now it's time for him to collect his fees.

At this moment, the clouds overhead have gradually gathered, forming a large mass of dark clouds.

【Four Symbols Magical Arts】—Summoning Qi, Summoning Water, and Shaping Elements!

Originally a minor spell used by mage apprentices to practice how to control magic, it was used by Raine as a high-level spell.

No one says that low-level spells can't produce high-level effects, right?

These raindrops have a hypnotic effect; anyone who sees them will fall asleep and forget everything when they wake up.

Aside from Catherine, everyone else present will have their memories erased by him.

They will only remember that a mysterious person appeared and helped Catherine take down the gunman, but the details will be vague.

Catherine stared blankly as Ryan left.

Boom—

A torrential downpour began.

"Officer Catherine Field, please keep the line open. SWAT has arrived on the scene."

Only then did she belatedly pick up her phone, bring it to her ear, and hurriedly answer.

"No...no need, I have successfully subdued the gunman."

Catherine stared at the spot where Raine had disappeared, but what she was thinking was...

What kind of person is he?
