Paying The Price

"What services can I render to him? I'm not good in combat or is it because I'm his granddaughter? Then why would he want to kill Pearl."

"He wants to marry you off." Zach said plainly, then added "So Pearl could be an obstacle because the other part most likely wouldn't want a step daughter."

Diana was about to yell 'What!', but when she opened her mouth only a hoarse sound could be heard.

With stumbling she said "But...but....but...but.... am married!"

"I thought you wanted a divorce." Zach smacked his lips and teased.

"Zach!"

Divorce? Hell no. It was far better to marry a known monster than an unknown one.

"Marriage? Why does he want me to marry someone?" Her voice had a hint of fear. After her first marriage, marrying someone she didn't date and don't know and most likely would be powerful scared her.

"For power."

Her guess was right.

Damn old man, he hasn't seen his granddaughter but already made preparations to wed her off.

"Well, I'm married and am not getting a divorce." Diana folded her hands and pouted.

Zach found her hilarious, a month ago she was so mad that Wayne extended the divorce case, now she's grabbing hold to him. Anyway, that's what he would do if he was her, especially...

"Diana I know you don't know but Wayne is your life line."

"What do you mean?"

"Wayne is an underworld king too, some years ago a war almost broke out, but luckily Wayne and his friend Leon stopped it. Although it may not have been huge as world wars but it could have made a massive negative impact on people. Henry wasn't fully involved in it so he didn't care if it holds or not but people like Martinez, the guy Wayne chased at New York and Simeon were driving force for the war. Wayne's interference made them enemies."

"Earlier, Simeon didn't know you were married to Wayne but with Martinez knowledge, he'll know and definitely do something about it. Wayne had the strongest empire in America but lately he doesn't do much anymore, he's more focused in his company."

"Now the guy you're being set up with is from China. He's from the Li family, they have the strongest empire in the world enough to bring a whole country's economy down. Your mom was meant to marry from that family but because of her stubbornness it didn't work out. This guy now, is actually a little older than you and the current ruler of the empire."

"The good news is, you have Wayne, with his capability he can be able to strengthen his empire once again and come to your aid. But for now, we shouldn't inform him, we'll only call him when it's really relevant. If we tell him now he could explode and make a mess, so let's just wait."

Diana's head was spinning. Too much to take in. She never dreamed Wayne could be her savour. Will he be willing to help?

If only she could choose what family she would come from, she would have chosen a very poor one than this crazy, power tasty one she found herself in.

"What about you? Where are you from and how do you know some much?" Drained mentally, Diana asked weakly.
