"Wait, wait, shouldn't it be me?" Tony grabbed Peter Rod's arm, asking the white-haired man with considerable confusion.
Even Pietro himself didn't understand why his sister was thinking this. Instead of seeing Tony Stark, she wanted to see the woman who had practically beaten them all up the day before.
Although he had figured it out and told Wanda the whole story, it still didn't explain why the person Wanda wanted to see wasn't Tony Stark.
Finally, Pietro could only say to Tony, "I don't know either."
Pietro shook off Tony's hand, shoved the man out of the room, and slammed the American billionaire out.
Tony stood outside the door, his face filled with disbelief. He raised his hand several times as if to knock, but ultimately lowered it, waiting for the person inside to come out and call him in.
Diana, inside the room, was also somewhat bewildered. This time, she hadn't paid attention to the whispered conversation between the two siblings, as it wasn't urgent, and had simply put it aside. However, things were clearly developing differently from what she had imagined. Shouldn't Tony have been called in and then given a beating?
How did this get involved with me?
When Diana saw the little witch again, she clearly sensed something unusual.
Wanda's face was flushed with an inexplicable blush, as if something was making her too shy to speak. She sat on the bed, her gaze, which had been fixed on the doorway, shifted somewhat nervously to the view outside the window when Diana entered.
"What's wrong?" Diana walked to Wanda's bedside, squatted down, and made sure that she and Wanda were at the same eye level.
Diana's gentle voice softly opened the little witch's heart.
"I heard it," the little witch said, looking out the window.
"What did you hear?" Diana's voice was still gentle, as if she was afraid of frightening the little one in front of her who had a sad childhood.
The little witch Wanda turned her head to face Diana's brown eyes. Wanda said to Diana in a firm tone, "Sidrick, Sidrick entrusted us to you, didn't he?"
Pietro, standing nearby, looked at his sister with some surprise; he had heard those words. But Pietro didn't want Wanda to know about this; they didn't want to experience the feeling of losing hope again.
The little witch seemed to have heard those words while half-conscious, but her state at the time prevented her from being entirely certain that Cistercile had said them. She could only try to bolster her confidence by speaking in a firm tone.
If Tony were here, he probably wouldn't have noticed the vulnerability in the little witch's words, but it's Diana here now.
Wanda's lake-green eyes tried to detect any trace of disgust or other aversion in Diana's gaze. But she found nothing; all she saw was the warmth in Diana's eyes that could draw one in and never want to leave.
"You must have suffered a lot." Diana didn't look away; she knew that looking away would be a blow to the little witch. She simply gently stroked the little witch's tender face.
This little guy, who hadn't shed a tear since his parents died, could no longer suppress the torrent of tears that streamed down his face.
The little witch nodded and suddenly hugged Diana tightly. She didn't cry out loud, but just silently shed tears.
Diana held the little witch in her arms and patted her back: "Cry, cry it all out, it'll make you feel better." Diana gently patted Wanda's back, comforting the little witch.
The little witch could no longer suppress her sobs, and she buried her face in Diana's shoulder, crying her heart out, wanting to vent all the grievances she had suffered over the years.
Pietro watched his sister sobbing in Diana's arms, and his eyes welled up with tears as well, but he forced himself to remain calm. He was Wanda's brother; how could he cry?
The little witch cried for a long time, but she never let go of Diana's arms. Finally, she fell into a deep sleep in Diana's arms, and this time the little witch had a smile on her lips as she slept.
Diana held the little witch tightly, never even considering putting her on the bed. When a child is at their most vulnerable, the person they most want to see when they open their eyes is the one they saw before falling asleep. And when hugging a child, never be the one to let go first—never.
Diana slowly stood up, holding the little witch in her arms.
It has to be said, thankfully the little witch is only twelve or thirteen years old, so Diana didn't feel out of place holding her. It would be hard to say if she were a more mature witch.
As Pietro pondered whether or not to take the little witch from Diana, he saw Diana shake her head at him.
Diana, holding the little witch, gestured for Pietro to open the door.
Pietro rushed to the door and opened it for Diana, giving her an embarrassed smile.
He didn't use his powers, and although it was impossible for him to disturb Wanda's sleep, he still chose the most cautious approach.
Tony, standing outside the door, was getting impatient. He was always the one waiting for others; when had it become his turn to wait for others? After raising and lowering his hand countless times, he finally decided to knock.
After all, it's been almost half an hour.
Before Tony could even lower his hand, the door opened.
He was pleasantly surprised, thinking they were letting him in to see the little girl, when he saw Pietro gesturing for him to be quiet.
Although Tony didn't quite understand, he chose to keep his mouth shut and remain silent.
Then he saw Diana carrying the brown-haired girl out of the room. He pointed at Diana, then at the little one on her shoulder.
Diana simply gave him a look and offered no explanation for the current situation.
Tony could only follow Diana away, completely bewildered.
To outsiders, the group seemed a little strange; no one spoke, for fear of waking the little one on the tall woman's shoulder.
Diana's deduction was largely correct; by the time they arrived at the hotel restaurant, the little witch had already regained consciousness. After all, she had simply been exhausted from crying and had fallen asleep.
The newly awakened little witch saw Diana's stunning profile, but now that exquisite and beautiful profile represented something else entirely in the little witch's eyes.
The little witch chuckled somewhat sheepishly.
"Awake?" Diana naturally knew that the little one in her arms had woken up. Looking at Wanda's red and swollen eyes and her happy smile now, she also smiled gently.
The little witch blushed slightly: "Put me down."
Diana naturally wouldn't refuse the little witch's request. Although the little one's weight wasn't much to Diana, she had to consider the little one's feelings.
After Diana put the little witch down, she didn't stray far from Diana. She simply placed her little hand in Diana's hand and then looked up at Diana.
Diana smiled knowingly and took the little witch's still-tender hand in hers.
Tony, watching Diana and Wanda together, always had a strange sense of déjà vu.
Why does it look like a mother taking care of her daughter?
Chapter 80 Don't Waste Your Life
The little witch gripped her hand tightly, afraid that the person holding her hand would disappear at any moment and vanish completely from her world.
Diana didn't understand why Wanda was treating her this way, especially since she had given them quite a hard time the day before. Where did this strange attachment come from?
Perhaps sensing Diana's confusion, Wanda spoke up.
“It’s the feeling of a mother.” Wanda’s voice wasn’t loud, but it reached Diana’s ears clearly.
Diana looked down at Wanda's small face.
“I feel it in you, the same feeling I feel for my mother.” Wanda was clearly a little nervous.
The first thing she saw after waking up was Diana bathed in warm sunlight. Her warm smile and relaxing tone immediately reminded Wanda of the woman who had been gone for so long, their mother.
It was also one of the few times she let down her tough exterior in front of others.
And when she remembered what Stiglitz had said, she could hardly believe it—how could a goddess-like woman tolerate two burdens? Besides, they were utterly useless.
As she thought about it, Wanda's eyes dimmed again.
Yes, what use are she and Pietro to this woman? Even Sistrek doesn't want them involved in anything, isn't that because they're useless?
As Wanda thought about it, her little hand couldn't help but loosen a little.
The next moment, Diana's actions brought Wanda's eyes back to life.
"Hold on tight." Diana noticed the little witch's low voice and her gradually loosening hand. She held Wanda's little hand tightly, not letting it slip out of her grasp.
Wanda's lake-green eyes were fixed on the hand that Diana was holding.
"Don't you think we're useless?" Wanda asked timidly.
Diana bent down, pressing her forehead against Wanda's, and said, "What does it matter? You're still a child. Just grow up happily."
“But there’s nothing we can do to help you.” Wanda knew very well that Diana would face many such situations and battles in the future, but they would only become Diana’s weaknesses and burdens.
Straightening up, Diana patted Wanda's head and said, "As long as you're happy, that's all that matters to me."
Wanda wanted to say something, but when she looked up, she was met not with the same brown eyes as before, but with a pair of eyes made entirely of gold. The energy emanating from those eyes terrified Wanda.
As those eyes opened and closed, it seemed as if planets were shattering within them.
The gold in Diana's eyes gradually faded, returning to her beautiful brown eyes: "Now rest assured, there's no one here who needs my full strength." At least, there isn't one in this universe.
Of course, Diana didn't say the second half of her sentence aloud; these are not things that the little ones need to be exposed to now.
Wanda was still a little dazed; Diana's golden eyes had just been too stunning. But the little witch nodded after hearing Diana's words, indicating that she understood.
Diana looked at Wanda with satisfaction, then called to the white-haired boy, "Little guy, come here for a second."
Pietro, who had been keeping a distance from her, walked over and stood next to Wanda.
"Take your sister out to get something to eat. She can eat whatever she wants, and that mustachioed guy will pay for it," Diana said with a smile to the two little ones, while pointing to the bewildered sucker.
The two children followed the direction Diana pointed and saw the somewhat reserved Tony Stark.
Wanda initially wanted to say she didn't want to use Tony's dirty money. But then she remembered what her brother had told her, and that the gentle woman and the mustachioed man were friends, so she swallowed her words.
The two little ones still don't know what this woman's name is.
Wanda tugged at Diana's sleeve: "I still don't know your name."
Diana then realized that she had never introduced herself to the two little ones. There was nothing she could do; they were always fighting whenever they met, and there was no time for introductions. After the two little ones fell unconscious, there was even less of a chance.
“My name is Diana, Diana Prince,” Diana said, extending her hand to the two children.
“Wanda Django Maximov (Pietro Django Maximov)” the two siblings said to Diana at the same time.
Wanda then glared at her brother, and Pietro could only scratch his head awkwardly.
"May I call you Wanda and Pietro?" Diana smiled and ruffled the two little ones' hair.
"Okay." It was another unanimous reply, but this time, Wanda didn't hurt Pietro with her eyes.
"Then what should we call you?" Wanda asked Diana somewhat anxiously.
“No rush, I’ll take you to America, after all, that’s my home now. You can decide what to call me then, okay?” Diana’s gentle expression put the two children at ease.
Diana patted Pietro on the shoulder: "Take your sister to get something to eat."
Pietro nodded and took Wanda's hand.
Wanda was still a little worried and asked Diana again, "You won't abandon us, right?"
Diana remained patiently squatting on the ground, holding Wanda's other small hand firmly, and said, "Never. Never, never, never."
Wanda nodded happily, as if she had received a great treasure.
After that, it wasn't Pietro taking Wanda to eat anymore; instead, it was Wanda taking Pietro to eat.
Diana walked over to Tony and looked at the somewhat bewildered genius, saying, "What's wrong? They don't care about you anymore."
