Hogwarts: Me? Fight Voldemort?
Page 24
“Snape took everything from us…” Harry looked embarrassed. They realized they had made a huge mistake, which was why they weren’t even interested in discussing what Cerberus was guarding. “Snape was wandering around yesterday, he must have been called by Malfoy!”
Neville was so frightened by the growing screams that he almost cried, feeling like everyone around him was poking his back with their fingers.
Jimmy looked at Hermione, and the little witch lowered her head, her ears turning bright red with embarrassment, and mumbled, "I stopped them, really..."
So you failed to stop them, and then you went on a nighttime stroll with them, right?
Tsk tsk tsk!
"The prefect is here! I am the prefect! What's going on here?" Percy arrived at the Great Hall for a meal at that moment. He saw the commotion at the Gryffindor table and immediately rushed into the crowd.
After learning what had happened, he angrily approached Ron. "No wonder Professor McGonagall is in a bad mood. I must say, if Mom finds out, you'll get a yelling letter, Ron!"
"None of your business! Big-headed Percy!"
The Gryffindor long table was especially impressive today, and the breakfast ingredients made Jimmy's appetite soar.
If winning the Academy Cup would reward every student with Galleons, he would set up a task force to oversee the matter, but unfortunately, there is no substantial reward to motivate him to uphold school rules.
Because of this incident, the atmosphere at the Gryffindor long table became very strange. Many students who didn't usually care much about their grades seemed to become well-behaved and good students the moment their grades were reset to zero.
They started complaining about Harry and his friends. They didn't care usually because at least their grades weren't that bad, but less than a month into the semester, all the little bit of points they had accumulated were wiped out in an instant, which was upsetting no matter how you looked at it.
Neville and Hermione were in a prolonged slump. During Transfiguration class, Hermione kept trying to regain her points. Professor McGonagall noticed that Hermione really wanted to get points, so she gave her many opportunities.
These were all just a drop in the ocean. Harry couldn't stand the stares from Gryffindor either, so he set his sights on Quidditch matches, since Quidditch scores at the end of the term would be directly added to the house grades.
If Gryffindor can win all their Quidditch matches, they can make up for the damage he caused.
Jimmy didn't comfort them; he spent the whole day reviewing the materials he had prepared for the Memory-Creating Charm, memorizing all the key points.
Evenings were still spent studying late into the night in his dorm room, leading Harry, Ron, and Neville to suspect that he was the most obsessed one.
As soon as midnight struck, the simulation opportunity refreshed, and Jimmy leaped onto the bed, covering his face again with his notebook and the documents he had tucked inside, and clicked on the simulation as he was overwhelmed by the knowledge.
It was another abstract landscape of stars and the universe, but at the end of the deduction, he saw one version of himself casting a spell on another version of himself, the sound of the incantation seeming both real and illusory.
Jimmy saw the magic materialize, a mystery beyond words. The whispers in his ear grew louder, and his brain was like a paper shredder playing in reverse, piecing together the scattered fragments hidden deep in his memory.
Amidst the deafening explosions, a flood of memories from his past lives about the Harry Potter series resurfaced, overwhelming his mind and causing him to cry out in pain.
"Hmph, ahh, ahhhhhh!"
The moment his body was touched while he was lying on the bed, he sprang up from the bed as if by reflex, startling everyone around him.
Harry, Ron, Neville, and Seamus all gathered around his bedside, looking at him with concern.
Ron asked worriedly, "Are you alright? You were screaming just now, Jimmy, what happened?"
“It was very loud; it woke us all up,” Seamus replied.
Do you need to go to the school clinic?
"No, no need, don't bother me!" Jimmy wiped the sweat from his forehead. The pain in his dream seemed like it had never happened. He shook his head, rolled out of bed, and quickly wrote in his notebook while leaning over the bedside table.
The candlestick's light wasn't enough, so he shouted, "Illumination Charm!"
Harry reacted the fastest, running to grab his wand and lying on his bed. The tip of the wand, held above Jimmy's head, glowed white, "Fluorescent."
Ron, Neville, and Seamus stood behind Jimmy, looking bewildered, not daring to say or ask anything.
Before the memory completely faded, Jimmy rapidly flicked his wrist across the notebook, recording his memories of the deduction process.
The handwriting was so messy that it was almost illegible, but he was pursuing speed now. Even so, it took him half an hour to finish recording everything. Then he spent another forty minutes rewriting the messy content to avoid it being too abstract for even himself to understand.
After it was over, Jimmy jumped up excitedly, clutching the notebook and grinning like an idiot.
Harry and his friends were so frightened that they backed away, wondering if Jimmy had gone mad.
"Nawi! I did it! With 10 points of effort and 90 points of inspiration (a cheat code), I successfully invented the Memory Charm. You will never forget things again!" Jimmy then noticed the horrified expressions on the faces of his four friends who had been holding the lamps for him and immediately shared his joy with them.
"Really?" Neville glanced at Harry, who shook his head slightly at him.
Ron and Seamus huddled together, horrified, trying to comfort each other. How could Jimmy have gone mad in his sleep?
Or should I take it to the school clinic to see Mrs. Pomfrey?
"Uh..." Jimmy suddenly felt dizzy. He grabbed the bedpost, sure he was just sleepy, and lay down on the bed saying, "I, I'm a little sleepy..."
Before he could finish speaking, his consciousness sank into the depths of darkness, and he fell into a deep sleep.
Chapter 42 Memory Curse
The next day, Jimmy, having replenished his energy, stretched and got up with a strange shout, but paused when he looked around.
White curtains, pristine white sheets, and the surrounding scent of potions mixed with sunlight.
What did they do to me?
Just as I lifted the covers to get up, the curtain was pulled open, and a little witch with tousled hair slipped in from outside.
Seeing that he was awake, Hermione turned around in surprise and called out, "Mrs. Pomfrey! Jimmy's awake."
"Hey..." Jimmy didn't even have time to stop her before he had to get out of bed barefoot.
She was still wearing the oversized T-shirt she wore as pajamas last night, as if she had been taken to the school clinic after falling asleep last night.
The curtain was lifted again, and Mrs. Pomfrey, wearing a gray robe, a white apron, and a white nurse's cap, entered.
She saw Jimmy jump out of bed and angrily shooed him back up, saying, "You can't get out of bed yet!"
“But I’m perfectly healthy!” Jimmy retorted.
He knows what's going on with him.
Mrs. Pomfrey was forceful; she raised her hand and pressed him back onto the pillow. "My word is law!"
Hermione came in too, and Jimmy, having no other choice, could only let Madam Pomfrey examine him, while he spoke to Hermione, "Hermione, do you know what happened?"
“I didn’t see you in class this morning, so I asked Harry, and he told me you went crazy last night.”
"Slander! I'm not crazy!"
Snapped!
Mrs. Pomfrey pressed Jimmy's raised upper body back down, angrily saying, "My word is law!"
Seeing Jimmy's utterly dejected expression, Hermione suppressed a laugh and continued to explain.
It turns out that last night, Harry and the others were worried about Jimmy, who had gone crazy, so at Ron's suggestion, they went to see Professor McGonagall, and then he was taken to the school infirmary.
After completing the examination, Mrs. Pomfrey finally let Jimmy go. Since no problems were found during the entire time Jimmy was asleep and then woke up, it was highly likely that Jimmy was fine.
"I need to go back to my dorm to change first, and did I miss my herbal medicine class?"
“I missed it, it’s 10 a.m. now,” Hermione said. “I’ll go with you and tell you why you… did that.”
Jimmy, with a contorted face, said, "I'm not crazy."
“I didn’t say you were crazy, but I don’t know how to describe it.”
"My spell is a success!" Putting aside his frantic questions, Jimmy excitedly shared the good news with Hermione, confident that the bright young lady would resonate with his own experience. "I named it the 'Memory Charm,' and the incantation is 'Enlightenment!' Its effect is to help people recall forgotten things, and it's sure to work!"
He had already learned the spell. In his second chance to deduce the spell, he successfully created the Memory Spell and a further improvement on it: the Memory Repair Spell, which can repair missing or altered memories.
With this one spell, his fame will spread throughout the magical world. With fame, how could he not make money?
Hermione's reaction was similar to everyone else's, filled with suspicion, but unlike them, she didn't try to discourage him.
Back in his dorm, Jimmy didn't see Harry and the others, but he did see Dean Thomas leaving the common room.
Upon seeing Jimmy, Dean Thomas exclaimed in surprise, "Hey, Jimmy, weren't you in the school infirmary? Seamus said you went crazy last night."
"That bastard Simon, I'm going to kick his ass hard with my boots!" Jimmy laughed in anger, waiting to see how he would deal with those rumor-mongers.
"I'll pass it on for you." Dean Thomas grinned smugly and ran quickly to the auditorium to inform Seamus.
I changed into a long robe and found the notebook that was on the bedside table.
The first thing Jimmy did when he arrived at the Great Hall with Hermione was to kick Seamus in the butt.
Simo laughed and dodged away, offering a chuckled apology to Jimmy.
“I’m telling you, you’ll soon be free from forgetfulness, thanks to the magic spell I invented!” Jimmy boasted to Neville while eating.
Neville listened with a hint of skepticism, "Really? Maybe I can give it a try."
"No, that's too dangerous, Jimmy! You can't do that!" Hermione shrieked. "You have no idea whether the spells you create will work on people! If you really invent a spell, you should send it to the Ministry of Magic's Experimental Spells Committee for evaluation first!"
Ron, who was relatively familiar with the Ministry of Magic, seized the opportunity to speak up, saying, "It's a sparsely populated department where they experiment with immature spells."
Jimmy frowned and asked, "Does the person need to be present?"
"I don't know." Ron, who had just been talking so confidently, scratched his nose awkwardly.
“Alright…” Faced with Hermione’s unprecedentedly serious gaze, Jimmy finally gave in. “I promise my spell is very well-developed, but I will go. It seems Neville will have to wait a while before he can use the Memory Charm.”
Just then, he saw Professor Flitwick enter the auditorium through a side door, and immediately got up and went over to him, saying, "Let me show it to Professor Flitwick first!"
Upon learning that Jimmy had successfully developed the memory spell, Professor Flitwick was astonished. "Really? That's wonderful! Come to my office during lunch break; I need to see this spell."
Jimmy went back to the long table and wolfed down all the food until he was stuffed.
By the time he was able to walk again, Professor Flitwick had already finished eating and returned to his office, where he wasn't alone.
Jimmy also saw Professor McGonagall and asked in a low voice, "Professor McGonagall, Professor Flitwick, should I come back later?"
“No need, come in quickly.” Professor Flitwick beckoned to him, seemingly impatient. “Professor McGonagall will help you verify the spell.”
Professor McGonagall looked at Jimmy with great satisfaction. Nothing makes an educator happier than a student’s success, even though Jimmy had achieved it without her knowledge.
"Oh!" Jimmy entered the office, closed the door, and took out a notebook. "Let me first talk about the spells I invented; I wrote them in a font that only I can understand, because they're too messy."
Professor McGonagall and Professor Flitwick nodded, listening quietly to the introduction of the spell and its development process.
The information inside is mostly abstract, because the invention of spells is a rather abstract thing, and it is difficult to describe it perfectly in words.
Jimmy's descriptions frequently use terms like "resonance," "connection," and "compatibility" to summarize how magic works; these can only serve as a reference for others to understand the Memory Charm.
"I heard that unfinished spells need to be reviewed by the Experimental Spells Committee. Do I have to go there in person to test them?"
Professor Flitwick said happily, "No need, Jimmy. If the effect is real, I can guarantee that you will pass the review."
"Give it a try." Professor McGonagall, equally eager, waved her wand and transformed the low chair in her office into a grunting white pig.
