After defeating various fodder enemies, the hero's party arrived at the Demon King's castle.
Frillie used magic to dim the lights in the room, leaving only a few floating magical orbs.
“The Demon King Lu Mingfei sits on the Frozen Throne,” she said softly.
Lu Mingfei continued, "Heroes, why have you disturbed my eternal slumber?"
"It is only natural for a righteous hero to kill an evil demon king." Horus activates Word of Power: Demon Victory, attack power x2.
"What a pity, hero! I'll activate the Field Spell: Time Zero!" Lu Mingfei chuckled, mimicking the Demon King.
Frilian calmly flipped over the event card: "The Demon King activated 'Time Zero,' freezing the Heroes' group's actions for three turns."
While everyone was beating up the Demon King Lu Mingfei, Jiu Deya casually asked, "Has the specific date been set for the Execution Department's mission?"
As Ye Sheng rolled the dice, he replied, "The time has been postponed to one week later. The water level in the Three Gorges Reservoir will drop to its lowest point, which will be suitable for exploration."
Frillien perked up her ears: "What mission?"
Jiu Deya explained with a smile, "It's a relic exploration. There's a bronze city relic below the Three Gorges Reservoir, and the Executive Department is preparing to send us to conduct preliminary reconnaissance."
“Bronze City?” Frilian repeated.
Ye Sheng threw a 10, causing great damage to Lu Mingfei. "It is said to be the ruins of an ancient dragon civilization. The entire city was cast in bronze and was submerged under a reservoir. After the last earthquake, part of the city was exposed."
Lu Mingfei looked at his health, which was practically dwindling, and asked, "What's wrong? Are you interested in this?"
Frillie pondered for a moment: "If only I could see it with my own eyes."
“No,” Ye Sheng shook his head, “Only specialists can participate in missions of the Execution Department.”
The game was temporarily paused, and the topic shifted to the mysterious Bronze City.
Lin Xia asked curiously, "Is it dangerous?"
"Danger," Aki's expression turned serious. "The last detection indicated that there are living spirits guarding it."
Frillie's eyes grew brighter: "Living spirits? You mean puppet creations formed by combining souls with metal?"
Lu Mingfei suddenly had a bad feeling: "Hey, Frilian, you wouldn't be thinking of..."
"I'm just curious," the elf said calmly, but Lu Mingfei knew her too well; she was already planning something.
Ye Sheng glanced at his watch: "It's getting late, shall we continue the game? We only need one more hit to defeat the Demon King."
"Ah."
While packing up the game, Shudeya whispered to Ye Sheng, "Did we talk too much?"
Ye Sheng shrugged: "They'll find out sooner or later."
"Goodbye, seniors. See you tomorrow, Horus and Lin Xia," Lu Mingfei said, waving to everyone as he packed up his board games.
Standing at the door, he watched Ye Sheng and Jiu Deyaji's departing figures, "I have a feeling that something big is about to happen."
Chapter 14 Dragon Family Genealogy
Hilbert Jean Angers stood on the podium, his silver-gray suit impeccably tailored, a folding knife hidden in his cuff gleaming slightly under the light.
His voice was deep and magnetic, as if he were telling not a dry history, but a series of thrilling epics.
"Students, turn to page 37 of your textbooks," Angers gently tapped the blackboard. "Today we're going to talk about the impact of hybrid races on human history."
Lu Mingfei forced his heavy eyelids open, trying hard not to let his head hit the table.
"In 25 AD, Emperor Guangwu of the Eastern Han Dynasty, Liu Xiu," Angers said, pointing to the portrait on the projection screen. "According to the Secret Party's archives, he came from an ancient mixed-race family, and his words of power were 'Discipline' and 'Royal Flame,' which could suppress the power of all mixed-race beings in the area and control flames."
The projection shifts to a yellowed parchment scroll depicting Liu Xiu leading his army into battle, while his opponents are shown.
“Gongsun Shu is very likely a King of Bronze and Fire from a certain generation.” Angers smiled slightly. “His troops are essentially a legion composed of hybrids who follow the dragon race.”
Lu Mingfei's vision began to blur, and Liu Xiu's face gradually transformed into the image of Fingel gnawing on a pork knuckle in his eyes.
“In Europe, at least four of Charlemagne’s twelve knights were high-ranking hybrids,” Angers continued. “Joan of Arc, her ‘oracle’ ability has been verified to be a variant of the word power ‘prophet’.”
thump.
Lu Mingfei's head finally slammed onto the table.
A cold hand gently pinched his earlobe.
“Wake up,” Frillian said in a very low voice. “If you keep sleeping, Professor Manstein will deduct your credits.”
Lu Mingfei jolted awake and looked up. Angers was looking over with a half-smile. Professor Manstein, who was there to see how the S-class students were performing, had already opened his notebook, the pen tip hovering above his name.
"I'm awake! I'm awake! Don't deduct my credits!" Lu Mingfei quickly sat up straight, grabbed a pen, and pretended to take notes.
Frillie sighed and pushed her notebook toward Lu Mingfei.
The notes were so neat they were almost unbelievable.
[Liu Xiu, Hybrid, Words of Power: "Discipline" and "Monarch's Flame"]
Effect: Suppresses dragon bloodline within the area.
Weakness: Almost no effect against pure-blooded dragons.
Historical event: Battle of Kunyang (suspected use of incantations)
[Gongsun Shu - King of Bronze and Fire]
Characteristics: Extremely high fire resistance; its legions are equipped with alchemical weapons.
Reason for defeat: Liu Xiu joined forces with mixed-race aristocratic families to suppress him.
Lu Mingfei stared in disbelief: "These notes are really well written. Are you very interested in history?"
Frillie nodded. "Living too long, you have to find something to do to pass the time. The Kassel Library has a lot of books."
Lu Mingfei lowered his voice: "Then do you know the 'truth of history'?"
Frillie paused for a moment: "The history I learned from the library differs from that in historical records."
"for example?"
“For example, Joan of Arc didn’t die,” she said casually. “She was rescued by her mixed-race companions and eventually died of old age in a monastery in Brittany.”
"Can I write about Joan of Arc for my next assignment?"
Frillie: "If you want to fail, you can give it a try."
Dragon Genealogy was relatively fortunate, at least Frillian could help Lu Mingfei get away with it, but the other courses weren't so lucky.
Lu Mingfei found Vice Principal Flamel's alchemy course utterly agonizing. After destroying the test tube for the third time, he was punished by copying the "Alchemy Code" one hundred times.
Frillie used her "magic to write quickly" to help him complete ninety times, but the vice principal discovered it because the first ninety times the handwriting was as neat as printed material, while the last ten times it was as ugly as dog scratch.
There was no other way, so Lu Mingfei obediently copied it a hundred times, until his wrists were red and swollen.
Chu Zihang's cold weapon combat skills were similarly poor, with dismal results. Frilian couldn't stand it anymore and secretly enchanted Lu Mingfei's sword with "magic that can make it lighter".
Seeing Lu Mingfei become more agile immediately, Chu Zihang silently wrote "cheating" on the evaluation sheet and decided to give him extra practice after class.
Inside the training hall at Kassel College. The wooden floors gleamed, and the air was thick with the smells of anti-slip powder and sweat.
Chu Zihang stood in the center of the field, his black training uniform accentuating his figure, holding an unsharpened knife in his hand.
"Don't always rely on Frilian. Today, practice basic swordsmanship," Chu Zihang said calmly. "You can't use incantations."
Lu Mingfei gripped the training knife, his palms sweating.
He had thought that with "Time Zero," he could at least pass the cold weapon combat course, but Chu Zihang clearly didn't intend to give him that chance.
"Lower your wrist and press your thumb against the hilt," Chu Zihang said, walking behind him and adjusting his posture directly.
Lu Mingfei's arm was twisted painfully, and he almost dropped the knife.
“A knife isn’t a stick,” Chu Zihang frowned. “In your current stance, an enemy could easily knock your weapon away with a single move.”
Lu Mingfei grimaced as he adjusted the settings, thinking that this was much harder than pausing time.
"The power originates from the waist, not the arms," Chu Zihang demonstrated, the sharp sound of it cutting through the air sending chills down Lu Mingfei's spine.
When it was his turn to try, he lost his balance halfway through the swing, staggered and spun around, almost tripping over his own foot.
"Adjust your center of gravity," Chu Zihang commented succinctly.
Three minutes later, Lu Mingfei lay on the ground panting heavily, while Chu Zihang didn't even break a sweat, the wooden knife firmly pressed against Lu Mingfei's throat.
“You rely too much on Word of Power,” Chu Zihang said, sheathing his sword. “Time Zero can make you faster, but it won’t improve your physical abilities or skills.”
Lu Mingfei sat up, rubbing his swollen shoulder: "Senior brother, can I become a master swordsman?"
"Yes," Chu Zihang handed him a bottle of water. "Two extra hours of practice tomorrow."
Lu Mingfei's vision went black.
Professor Manstein's theory of Words of Power is the only one that Lu Mingfei can truly understand, since there are only so many known Words of Power that can be memorized. The real challenge lies in the application and combination of Words of Power.
When the bell rang, Lu Mingfei slumped into his chair as if he had been granted a pardon.
Frillie closed her notebook dedicated to the study of Words of Power and gently pushed it in front of him. "Copy it once," she said, "otherwise you'll fail the exam."
Lu Mingfei wailed, "These notes are thicker than the textbook!"
Frillie thought for a moment, then reached out and tapped his forehead.
A cool, magical sensation flowed into my mind, and the complex names and eras became clear.
"A magic to enhance memory," she said, withdrawing her hand. "The effect will last for three days."
Lu Mingfei was moved to tears: "Frilian, you are simply mine."
"An angel?" Fingel popped out from the corner and replied in a cheeky tone.
Lu Mingfei grabbed his notebook and threw it at them: "Why are you everywhere!"
Chapter 15 The Birthday Ball at Amber House
Lu Mingfei stared at the gold-embossed invitation in his hand; the large characters gleamed under the light.
"We cordially invite Mr. Lu Mingfei and Ms. Frilian to attend Ms. Chen Motong's birthday ball."
