Kato turned and left, heading towards the monitoring room at the other end of the corridor.
Frillie breathed a sigh of relief.
"Not bad acting," Ah Jian said softly.
“Let’s go,” Frilian said, helping Raven toward the elevator.
The elevator requires dual card verification; Raven's card and Kato's card must be inserted simultaneously for the elevator door to open.
Downward.
The display screen inside the elevator shows the depth: seven underground floors.
The door opened.
The temperature on this floor was significantly lower, and the air was filled with the pungent smell of liquid nitrogen. Neatly arranged cylindrical culture chambers lined both sides of the corridor, each connected to a complex piping system. Inside, human figures were faintly visible, immersed in a pale blue solution.
Some are complete, while others are only organs or fragments of limbs.
Yamazaki's face turned deathly pale. He saw the labels on the hulls:
"Experiment No. 43 - Dragon Blood Adaptability Test - Terminated"
"Sample No. 17 - Word Power Extraction - In Progress"
"Donor No. 09 - Organ Culture - 7th Generation Cloning"
This is hell on earth.
“Don’t look,” Frillie whispered. “Remember, we’re here to save people, not to judge them.”
Yamazaki bit his lip and nodded.
They walked to the end of the corridor, to a metal door marked "Area A - Permanent Cryogenic Execution Area".
Dual SIM card verification.
The door slid open, and cold air rushed out like white mist.
The interior space was small, containing only ten cryogenic chambers arranged in a circle. Each chamber was covered with a thick layer of frost, and ice flowers formed on the observation windows.
Yamazaki spotted A-07 immediately. He rushed over and wiped the frost off the observation window with his sleeve.
Inside the capsule, a silver-haired woman floated silently in a pale golden liquid. She looked to be only about forty years old, with a face that bore a striking resemblance to Yamazaki. Her eyes were closed, and her expression was as serene as if she were fast asleep.
"Mom," Yamazaki said, his voice choked with emotion.
Frillie inspects the control panel on the side of the cabin.
Status displayed: "Permanent cryopreservation - Day 5473 - Vital signs stable"
Unlocking requires two steps: First, enter a dynamic password to remove the security lock. Second, initiate the resuscitation process, gradually warming the body and injecting a wake-up agent.
First, Frillie had obtained the password from the raven's memories: a twelve-digit combination of dragon-script numbers that changed every hour. She entered the current password.
The panel lights up green: "Safety lock released."
The second step.
"How long will it take to wake him up?" Yamazaki asked.
“Theoretically, a slow resuscitation over 24 to 72 hours is necessary to avoid organ damage caused by sudden temperature changes,” Frillian frowned. “But we don’t have that time. Rapid awakening is risky and could lead to brain damage or even death.”
Yamazaki clenched his fist: "What do we do then?"
Frillie thought for a few seconds.
“There’s a compromise,” she said. “We won’t fully awaken her; we’ll put her into a transferable coma. Then we’ll move the capsule along with her and find a safe place to slowly resuscitate her.”
"How will it be transported? This hull weighs at least a ton."
“Ah Jian’s truck has been modified and has no problem with load-bearing capacity,” Frillie said. “The problem is how to get this thing out of the facility without triggering an alarm.”
Chapter 494 Infiltrating the Ghost Clan - Frilline (Part 2)
Frillie looked at the control panel.
There is an option: "Emergency Transfer Mode". When activated, the cryo-chamber will switch to its internal power source, detach from the main system, and enter a mobile state. However, activation requires ministerial-level or higher privileges, and Raven does not have enough cards.
or.
Frillie's gaze fell on a manual valve at the bottom of the cabin.
This is a mechanical emergency unlocking device, designed to prevent sample retrieval failure in the event of electronic system malfunction. Turning the valve requires considerable force, but once turned, the chamber automatically empties the liquid, unlocking the securing device.
The downside is that it will trigger a local alarm, and after the liquid is drained, the sample must be transferred to a backup life support device within 30 minutes, otherwise it will die due to lack of oxygen and temperature changes.
"Yamazaki, do you believe me?" Frilian asked.
Yamazaki looked at his mother's face and nodded emphatically.
“Okay.” Frillian crouched down and grasped the manual valve with both hands. “After I turn this valve, the liquid will drain out and the hatch will open. You need to catch your mother immediately and wrap her in this thermal blanket.”
She took a silver foil-covered thermal blanket from her backpack and handed it to Yamazaki.
"Ah Jian, go and keep watch at the elevator entrance. If anyone comes, try to delay them as much as possible."
Ah Jian nodded, took out the gun he had taken from Raven, and walked towards the door.
Frillie took a deep breath and began to turn the valve.
It was very heavy. Even with magic enhancing my arm strength, turning it was still difficult. The metal gears emitted a harsh grinding sound, one turn, two turns...
The sound of flowing liquid could be heard from inside the chamber. The pale golden liquid in the observation window began to descend and drain from the drain hole on the top of the chamber. As the liquid level dropped, Miho Yamazaki's body slowly fell.
Five laps, six laps...
With a click, the securing device unlocked, and air began to leak from the sealing strip along the edge of the hatch. At the same time, a small red light on the side of the hull began to flash and emit a low "beep" sound, indicating that a local alarm had been triggered.
"Ready!" Frillie shouted, slamming the valve to its limit.
The hatch sprang open, and the remaining liquid gushed out, spreading across the cold ground. Miho Yamazaki's body slumped forward, and Yamazaki rushed over, wrapping his mother tightly in a thermal blanket.
The touch was frighteningly cold, like holding a corpse. But Yamazaki could feel a faint pulse, very slow, maybe only ten beats per minute.
"Body temperature 32 degrees Celsius, vital signs weak but stable," Frilian checked. "Quickly, let's get out of here."
She dragged the raven over and used her last bit of magic to implant a final instruction into her mind: "Attacked by the Snake Clan, A-07 sample stolen, fought desperately but failed."
Then release control of the raven.
Raven's body jolted, and some of the light returned to her eyes, though they remained confused. She saw the empty cryo-chamber, saw Yamazaki holding someone, and instinctively wanted to scream.
Frillie punched Raven in the back of the neck, and Raven collapsed to the ground.
"Let's go!" Frilian urged.
The three rushed towards the elevator. Ah Jian had already pressed the open button.
As the elevator ascends, every second feels like an eternity.
The door opened, and they rushed back upstairs. An alarm had already sounded in the corridor; the partial alarm was detected by Kato in the monitoring room.
"Halt!" Kato's voice came over the loudspeaker. "Who are you?! Put down the samples!"
Without turning her head, Frillie raised her hand and fired a shot at the ceiling.
The bullet shattered the fire sprinkler head on the corridor ceiling, causing water mist to spread and temporarily interfere with the surveillance cameras.
"Left!" Ah Jian led the way, rushing towards another exit, not the way they came, but a backup escape route he had dug out from the Raven's memories.
The passage was narrow, allowing only one person to pass at a time. They squeezed in one by one, with Frilian at the very back closing the door behind her and temporarily sealing the lock with magic.
At the end of the passage is a hidden exit by the sea, concealed among the rocks.
The sea breeze was biting at dawn, and the eastern sky was already turning a pale white.
Ah Jian's small truck was parked on the road fifty meters away. They rushed into the truck, with Yamazaki holding his mother in the back seat and Frillie sitting in the passenger seat.
"Where to?" Ah Jian started the engine.
“Leave Tokyo first,” Frillian said. “Head west to Kanagawa. I know a private clinic there; the doctor there owes Flamel a favor and will help.”
The truck drove onto the highway and merged into the sparse traffic before dawn.
Behind them, in the direction of the sewage treatment plant, the faint sound of sirens could be heard. The Ghost Clan reacted faster than expected, but it was too late.
Frillie glanced back at the receding factory area. Phase One Complete: Rescuing Miho Yamazaki. Phase Two About to Begin: Infiltrating the Oni Clan as Night.
She needs a new disguise, a plausible reason for returning, and a sufficiently substantial pledge of allegiance. For example, complete intelligence on the Snake Clan's Deep Sea Operation.
The truck drove westward through the morning mist.
...
The highway was eerily empty before dawn. Ah Jian floored the accelerator of his small truck, the speedometer needle trembling as it pointed to 120 kilometers per hour, the engine emitting a strained roar.
In the back row, Yamazaki held his mother tightly, who was wrapped in a silver thermal blanket. The body under the blanket was still cold, but Yamazaki could feel the faint rise and fall of his mother's chest. She was still alive, though her breathing was as weak as a candle flickering in the wind.
"Body temperature?" Frilian asked, turning around.
Yamazaki reached under the blanket and touched his mother's neck: "It's cold, even colder than before."
After the life support fluid in the cryo-chamber is drained, even with an insulating blanket, body temperature will still drop at a rate of 0.3 degrees Celsius per minute. If it drops below 28 degrees Celsius, vital organs will begin to fail.
"Jian, is there a heater in the car?"
“Yes, but it’s broken,” Ah Jian said, glancing at the rearview mirror. “But I can give it a try.”
He held the steering wheel with one hand and reached under the seat with the other, pulling out a cigarette lighter. "Use this to heat the blanket, but be careful not to burn yourself."
Frillie took the cigarette lighter; the metal part glowed red quickly after she plugged it in. She took out a few sheets of tin foil from her backpack, wrapped them around the cigarette lighter to make a makeshift heating pad, and stuffed it into the lining of her thermal blanket.
"This will slow down heat loss, but it won't last long." She glanced out the window. "How far is it to Kanagawa?"
“If there’s no traffic, it’ll take forty minutes,” A-Jian said. “But the morning rush hour is about to start, and…”
He glanced in the rearview mirror, his expression changing. Two black sedans were approaching at high speed from behind, their headlights off, like sharks in the night.
"Damn it, they've caught up."
Frillie saw it too. The sedan was a Toyota Century, an armored model, the standard vehicle for the Oni Gang's executives. The fact that they were chasing at this speed meant that their alternate route had been discovered.
"Can we shake them off?"
"Give it a try." A-Jian jerked the steering wheel, and the truck plunged off the highway ramp and into the streets of Yokohama.
