At five in the morning, there were already a few vehicles on the streets of Yokohama: newspaper delivery motorcycles, small trucks carrying groceries, and elderly people jogging. Ken drove his truck like a madman, weaving through narrow alleys, the tires screeching as they rubbed against the ground.
Behind them, two Century sedans were locked in close pursuit. They were clearly professionally trained drivers; no matter how much Ah Jian swerved or swerved, the distance between them kept decreasing.
“This won’t do,” Frillie said, calculating the distance. “We have no advantage in the city. Once they call for reinforcements, we’ll be surrounded.”
"What should I do?"
Frillie looked ahead; they were heading towards Yokohama Port. The massive container terminal was partially obscured by the morning mist, and cranes stood like the skeletons of steel giants against the sky.
“Go to the pier,” she said. “The terrain there is complicated, making it easy to hide, and there are early morning ferries leaving the port.”
"You want to sneak onto the ship?"
“No, we need to create a false impression,” Frillie thought quickly. “Let them think we’ve escaped onto the ship, when in fact we’ve remained on land.”
Ah Jian understood what she meant: "Shedding one's skin like a cicada shedding its shell."
Chapter 495 Frilian: Doctor, Save Lives (Part 1)
The truck sped into the dock area, racing through the container yard. The six-meter-high containers formed a maze, with passageways so narrow that only one vehicle could pass at a time.
"Turn left ahead, then brake suddenly," Frillie instructed.
Ah Jian did as instructed. The truck braked suddenly after turning, leaving two black tracks on the ground with its tires.
"Get out of the car, quick!"
The three of them jumped out of the car with Miho Yamazaki. Frillie took a small remote control from her backpack; it looked like a car key, but it was larger.
“Flamemer’s little toy,” she said, pressing a button. “Autopilot, target setting: plunge into the sea.”
The truck restarted, driverless, and accelerated toward the edge of the dock. Just before it was about to plunge into the sea, Frillie pressed another button.
"Bang!" The smoke bomb and sound simulator worked. The sound of the truck crashing into the sea was amplified several times, and at the same time, a large amount of white smoke exploded, obscuring visibility.
When the two Century sedans arrived at the dock, all they could see was oil slicks and floating debris on the sea.
"Target has fallen into the sea," a man in black reported over a walkie-talkie. "Requesting a diving team to salvage it."
"Roger that. Seal off the dock and search the surrounding area."
The men in black got out of the car and began searching the container area. But they didn't notice that on top of a container fifty meters away, Frillie was observing them through a sniper scope.
"Six of them, all at least C-rank," she said in a low voice. "Well-equipped, but no heavy weapons. We can handle them."
"Are you alone?" Ah Jian asked from below.
“That’s enough,” Frillie said, switching her sniper scope to thermal imaging mode. “You guys stay hidden and don’t make a sound.”
She raised the silenced submachine gun. She aimed and pulled the trigger.
"Puff puff puff." Three bursts of fire.
The three men in black furthest away fell to the ground simultaneously, bullets piercing precisely through the weakest point in their neck armor. The other three immediately became alert and sought cover.
But Frillian had changed positions. She leaped from the top of the containers, landing silently, and circled around to behind another stack of containers. Her magical perception was extended to its limit. She could "see" the three people: one hiding behind a forklift, one crouching in the shadow of a cargo container, and another trying to climb to a higher vantage point.
Prioritize resolving issues at higher elevations.
Frillie raised her hand, but instead of firing, she tossed a coin. The coin arced through the air and landed behind the man in black high above. He instinctively turned around—
"Thud." The bullet came from below, piercing his jaw and going through his brain.
There are two left.
The men in black behind the forklift began calling for backup, but the signal was jammed. Frillie had set up a makeshift signal jammer in the dock area beforehand.
"Come out!" the man shouted. "Let's talk!"
Frillie emerged from the shadows, her gun barrel lowered, indicating a non-aggressive stance.
What should we talk about?
"Hand over Miho Yamazaki, and we'll let you and your accomplices go," the man in black said. "The Demon Gang only cares about the samples; they don't care about a few lives."
What if I say no?
"Then you and your men will die," the man in black sneered. "There are already twenty of our snipers on the dock. Just make one move."
He was bluffing. Within Frilline's magical perception range, apart from another man in black behind the cargo box, there were no other signs of life.
"Fine," she sighed, "I surrender."
Put down your gun and raise your hands.
The man in black breathed a sigh of relief and stepped out from behind cover. But just as he took his second step, Frilian's fingers twitched slightly. An invisible thread of magic, which had been laid the moment she stepped out of the shadows, lay across the man in black at ankle height.
stumble.
The moment the man in black lost his balance, Frillian rushed in front of him, snatched the gun with her left hand, and slammed her right palm into his Adam's apple.
"Ugh!" The trachea ruptured.
The last man in black rushed out from behind the cargo box, but Ah Jian pounced from the side and smashed him on the back of the head with a wrench.
The battle is over.
Six corpses.
Frillie checked on Miho Yamazaki. Her temperature had dropped to 30 degrees Celsius, and her lips were turning purple; she needed immediate treatment.
"We can't stay here any longer; the Ghost Clan's reinforcements will be here soon. We need transportation."
Ah Jian searched the dock and found a small truck transporting seafood; the driver was dozing inside.
"Sorry, buddy," Ah Jian said, knocking the driver unconscious with a karate chop and driving the car over.
They changed vehicles and continued westward.
This time, Frilian instructed A-Jian to take a back road, avoiding the main roads and toll booths, and drive along the old coastal highway.
At six o'clock in the morning, the sun rises from the sea, and golden sunlight pierces through the morning mist.
Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
The van drove into a private seaside estate. The estate gate was closed, and the sign read "Morishita Clinic," but it looked more like a luxury villa.
Frillie got out of the car and rang the doorbell.
The camera panned to her. A few seconds later, a languid male voice came from the access control speaker: "The clinic is closed today."
“Flamer sent me,” Frilian said in German.
Silence, then the door slowly opened.
The main building of the estate is a three-story Japanese-style villa, but the interior is completely modern. There are sterile corridors, fully automated medical equipment, and a faint smell of disinfectant.
A middle-aged man in a white lab coat, with disheveled hair, stood in the doorway, holding a coffee cup and wearing glasses perched crookedly on his nose. He looked to be in his forties, but the wrinkles around his eyes suggested he might be older.
Dr. Morishita, a former researcher at the Kassel College Medical Department, resigned fifteen years ago due to ideological differences and opened this private institution in Japan, which is ostensibly a plastic surgery clinic but is actually run by a mixed-race black market doctor.
"Is that old drunkard Flamel still alive?" Morishita asked in Japanese, his tone utterly impolite.
“I’m doing very well, drinking a thousand dollars worth of whiskey every day,” Frillie replied.
Morishita chuckled, his gaze shifting to Miho Yamazaki, who was being carried in by Ken and Yamazaki: "Permanent cryogenics, the work of the Oni Clan. Where did you get it from?"
"She's my mother," Yamazaki said urgently. "Doctor, please save her!"
Morishita checked Yamazaki Miho's pupils and pulse, then frowned: "Temperature 29.8 degrees Celsius, vital signs extremely unstable. What stage is the thawing procedure at?"
“We only lifted the consciousness lock, we didn’t raise the temperature,” Frillian said. “Time is of the essence, so we had to use a brutal transfer.”
“Foolish,” Morishita criticized mercilessly, “but it was the right thing to do. If you had tried to heat her up too quickly, she would be a corpse by now.”
He directed A-Jian and Yamazaki to carry the patient into the operating room in the basement. The operating room was more professional than the clinic upstairs, with equipment comparable to a biosafety level 3 laboratory, including an expensive cryogenic resuscitation chamber.
"This thing cost me 300 million yen," Morishita said, patting the outer shell of the resuscitation pod. "Theoretically, it can bring back to life a corpse that has been frozen for fifty years. But the success rate... well, that depends on luck."
He placed Miho Yamazaki inside the cabin and connected various sensors.
The screen lit up, displaying a series of data: heart rate 8/minute, blood pressure 40/20, and brain waves almost a straight line.
“The situation is very bad,” Morishita said. “The freezing time was too long, and the life-sustaining fluid used by the Oni Clan has an outdated formula that causes irreversible damage to nerve cells. Even if they survive, they may suffer serious aftereffects, such as amnesia, paralysis, or a vegetative state.”
Yamazaki's face turned deathly pale.
Chapter 496 Frillian: Doctor, Save Lives (Part 2)
“But,” Morishita paused, “there is hope. Her bloodline purity is B-grade, and the self-healing ability of dragon blood is stronger than that of ordinary people. With my technology and equipment, the success rate is about 30%.
“30%.” Yamazaki repeated, his voice trembling.
“That’s already very high,” Morishita said. “Normally, the success rate of reviving someone from permanent cryogenics is 3%. You should be thankful she has a good son who is willing to risk his life to save her.”
He turned to Frilian: “The treatment will take time; you can’t move for at least 72 hours. And it’s very expensive.”
"Flame will pay the bill."
“That old drunkard has used up all his credit with me,” Morishita sneered. “Last time he asked me to treat a half-breed who was burned by dragon breath, saying the academy would reimburse him. But I waited three years and all I received was a case of moldy whiskey.”
Frillie took a small cloth bag out of her backpack and poured out a few thumb-sized red crystals.
Morishita's eyes immediately lit up.
"Dragon blood crystal, very pure, at least an extract from a Grade A hybrid." He picked up a crystal and examined it against the light. "Where did it come from?"
"What we found on Raven," Frillian said. "Is that enough?"
"That's enough to buy half a clinic," Morishita said carefully, putting away the crystal. "I'll take good care of the patients, so you can rest assured. But you yourselves are in quite a bit of trouble, aren't you?"
Frillie nodded: "The Ghosts are hunting us, and we need a new identity."
"A new identity?" Morishita sized her up. "What do you want?"
"Infiltrate the Fierce Ghosts."
Morishita nearly spat out his coffee: "Are you crazy? They almost killed you all just now!"
“That’s exactly why,” Frilian said calmly. “They wouldn’t expect that the person who just stole the important sample would turn around and join them. Moreover, I need the Oni Clan’s internal intelligence regarding the Snake Clan’s deep-sea operation.”
Morishita was silent for a few seconds, then suddenly laughed.
“Interesting,” he said. “You want to return as ‘Night’? Miho Yamazaki’s traitorous disciple?”
