"Ding-dong," the doorbell rang.

"Don't make a sound," Lu Mingfei gestured for Frillie to hide in the bedroom, then walked towards the door.

Through the peephole, he saw his uncle, Lu Gucheng, standing outside the door.

"Mingfei, it's me. Open the door, let's talk about your enrollment."

Lu Mingfei glanced back at the half-open bedroom door, took a deep breath, and turned the doorknob.

As soon as the door opened, Lu Mingfei smelled the familiar cologne on his uncle.

Uncle Lu Gucheng stood at the door, dressed in a suit and tie, his tie perfectly tied.

"Mingfei, are you sleeping in again?" The uncle's gaze swept past Lu Mingfei, across the messy living room, and paused when he saw the two used instant noodle bowls on the dining table.

Lu Mingfei subconsciously turned to block the bedroom: "I studied too late yesterday."

"Alright, let's get down to business." The uncle pulled an envelope from his briefcase. "Professor Guderian from Kassel College is coming for an interview tomorrow at the Regent Hotel."

Lu Mingfei took the envelope, which had a wax seal with a dragon encircling the World Tree on it.

"Is this school reliable?" the uncle asked, loosening his tie. "The admissions office called from the United States."

“Absolutely reliable, I applied for it a long time ago.” Lu Mingfei stared at the envelope, his heart pounding.

The uncle lowered his voice: "They gave you a full scholarship and even covered your airfare. What do your parents think about this?"

“They won’t care,” Lu Mingfei said softly.

He heard a slight clattering sound coming from the bedroom and quickly coughed to cover it up.

The uncle glanced suspiciously in the direction of the bedroom, then sighed: "The interview is tomorrow morning at ten o'clock. Don't be late. The phone numbers of the two admissions assistants are XXX."

Before leaving, he added, "Wearing that blue suit, at least you'll look presentable."

After the door closed, Lu Mingfei let out a long sigh of relief.

He took out his phone, and there were two new contacts in his address book—Ye Sheng and Jiu Deya Ji, both labeled "Kassel College Admissions Assistant".

"Frilian," he called softly.

The bedroom door opened a crack, and the silver-haired elf peeked out.

"Did you hear that?" Lu Mingfei shook the envelope. "There's an interview tomorrow."

“Yes. Your uncle has surveillance magic,” Frilian said.

Lu Mingfei was taken aback: "What do you mean?"

“Someone is spying on you through him.” Frillie tapped Lu Mingfei’s phone screen, and Ye Sheng and Aki’s contact information appeared.

Lu Mingfei thought for a moment, his finger hovering over the dial button: "Should I contact Kassel College again?"

Frillie thought for a moment, then pressed the dial button: "No ill intent, let's get in touch."

The call was connected almost instantly.

"Lu Mingfei?" The sound of waves could be heard in the background. "I am Ye Sheng, a third-year student at Kassel College."

"Uh, hello Senior Ye," Lu Mingfei stammered, "about tomorrow's interview."

"Nervous?" Ye Sheng laughed heartily. "Don't worry, Professor Guderian is a very nice person. He's been praising you the whole way."

"Senior! I wanted to ask if it's possible to bring one more person?"

There was a few seconds of silence on the other end of the phone. Lu Mingfei could hear hushed conversations mixed in with the sound of the waves; he could tell Ye Sheng was talking to someone.

"Girlfriend?" Ye Sheng asked again, his tone tinged with sarcasm. "I never expected the legendary figure from Shilan Middle School to have this trick up his sleeve."

Lu Mingfei's face flushed: "No! It's my cousin."

He glanced at Frillie, who was studying the TV remote and trying to poke the battery compartment with her wand.

"Just kidding," Ye Sheng laughed. "In principle, you can bring family members. Do you know what makes our academy different from other schools?"

"It's a place where people of mixed races gather."

Ye Sheng became serious. "So, are you going to introduce her to our world?"

Lu Mingfei gripped his phone tightly. "She's also of mixed race, just like me."

In his view, a magical elf is roughly equivalent to a hybrid race that can use words of magic.

Another silence followed.

This time, a gentle female voice spoke: "Hello Mingfei, I am Jiudeyaji. Professor Guderian has agreed, but your friend also needs to be interviewed."

Lu Mingfei looked at Frillie. The elven girl put down the remote control and mouthed to him, "Agree to them."

After hanging up the phone, I received an email on my phone.

Clicking on it opens a map, with a room in the Regent Hotel marked by a red circle, and a line of small text floating next to it: "EVA is navigating for you."

"Frilian, is there anything I need to prepare?" Lu Mingfei asked, his voice a little dry.

It was his first job interview, and he didn't know much about it.

Frillie walked to the window. "Just take your courage with you."

Ye Sheng sent his last message: "PS: Don't eat breakfast, the academy has prepared snacks."

Chapter 4 Zhao Menghua: Lu Shenren has a girlfriend!

Lu Mingfei stood at the entrance of the Regent Hotel, constantly tugging at his collar. This blue suit was bought by his uncle three years ago, and the cuffs were already a bit short, revealing his thin wrists.

He confirmed the address on his phone for the third time: the Regent Hotel conference room. Ye Sheng's message even had a smiley face emoji.

"Nervous?" Frilian was wearing a light blue dress today, her pointed ears hidden in her deliberately loose silver hair, making her look like a beautiful mixed-race girl.

“A little,” Lu Mingfei said, smoothing out the wrinkles on his suit. “I’ve never been to an interview like this before.”

“You’ll get used to it after participating more often,” Frilian said, raising her index finger. “Someone’s coming.”

A group of familiar people walked out of the revolving door. Chen Wenwen was wearing a plain white dress, Su Xiaoqiang was wearing high heels, Zhao Menghua was wearing a sharp Armani suit, and several key members of the Shilan Middle School Literary Society followed behind them.

Lu Mingfei instinctively tried to dodge, but Frilian grabbed his arm. "Don't dodge."

"Hey, isn't this the amazing Lu Mingfei from Shilan High School?" Zhao Menghua's eyes lit up as he strode over. "You're here for an interview too?"

"Good morning," Lu Mingfei stammered, feeling sweat starting to break out on his back.

Zhao Menghua exaggeratedly examined Lu Mingfei's old suit: "Tsk tsk tsk, look at this suit, is the threshold for Kassel so low now? Even you can get in."

He stammered, and Frilian affectionately took Lu Mingfei's arm and rested her head on his shoulder.

"Mingfei, who is this?" Chen Wenwen asked softly, blinking her eyes curiously.

“I’m his girlfriend,” Frilian answered first.

"Ah, ah," Lu Mingfei wanted to say that he had only met Frillie yesterday, but then he felt his arm being pinched. "Hmm, hmm!"

Zhao Menghua's face instantly turned a deep shade of liver: "Impossible! How could Lu Mingfei have a girlfriend? Are you blind?!"

"The elevator's here." Frilian pulled Lu Mingfei towards the elevator. "Senior, do you want to come up with us?"

"you!"

The moment the elevator doors closed, Lu Mingfei let out a long sigh of relief: "Why did you say she was my girlfriend?!"

“That person’s hostility towards you is almost tangible.” Frilian released her grip, pulled her wand from her skirt, and waved it. “This is how you deal with people like that, just like Master said.”

"Or do you prefer to be looked down upon?" The magic wand lightly poked Lu Mingfei's cheek.

"Not at all. It's good to see Zhao Menghua get his comeuppance."

Two young people were standing at the door of the conference room.

The boy wore the dark green school uniform of Kassel College, his black hair tied in a ponytail; the girl was a typical Japanese beauty, smiling as she checked the list.

"Are you Lu Mingfei?" the boy asked, quickly approaching. "I'm Ye Sheng, and this is Jiu Deya."

His gaze shifted to Frillie, his eyes widening slightly. "Is this the one you mentioned on the phone?"

“Frilian,” the elven girl said, extending her hand. “Cousin Lu Mingfei.”

Shudeaki shook hands: "Welcome, Frilian. Please wait in your seat."

Ye Sheng took the list: "Everyone, please proceed with the interviews in order. Next up is Chen Wenwen."

Chen Wenwen stood up nervously, and Zhao Menghua immediately leaned over and said, "Go Wenwen, it's just a formality."

Lu Mingfei and Frillian found a corner to sit down. Through the half-open door, they could hear a fragmented conversation coming from inside:

Why choose our college?

"Because of...an international teaching environment..."

What are your special skills?

"Piano...English Level 8..."

Lu Mingfei breathed a sigh of relief. The questions were standard for a university interview.

"Next up is Zhao Menghua."

Zhao Menghua strode into the room with an arrogant air, and before leaving, he didn't forget to give Lu Mingfei a cold laugh.

He came out five minutes later, with a smug look on his face.

“It was too easy,” he said loudly to his companions. “They just asked about my extracurricular activities and family situation.”

"Next up are Lu Mingfei and Frilian."

Upon hearing Ye Sheng call his name, Lu Mingfei hurriedly stood up, nearly knocking over the mineral water bottle on the coffee table.

Fortunately, Frillie reacted quickly and caught the bottle.

In the conference room, Professor Guderian was reviewing documents when he saw them enter. He immediately stood up enthusiastically: "Ah! You must be Lu Mingfei! And this gentleman is?"

“My cousin Frillian,” Lu Mingfei said, following the story they had agreed on the night before, “is also very interested in Kassel.”

"Hello, Professor Guderian."

Guderian paused for a second on Frillie's pointed ear, then chuckled and said, "Welcome, welcome! Please have a seat!"

Lu Mingfei sat nervously on the sofa, while Frilian, on the other hand, was elegant, like a young lady attending a tea party.
