He was panting heavily, his arms aching as if they had been run over by a truck.
“This is only the second to last one,” Lu Mingfei said with a wry smile as he looked at the remaining five weapons. He suddenly understood why this set of alchemical weapons was called “Seven Deadly Sins”; using them was a form of torture.
"Stop dawdling, next round!" Flamel waved his hand impatiently.
The third sword, "Greed," is a simple, straight sword with seven gems of different colors inlaid on its scabbard.
Lu Mingfei gripped the knife handle, feeling as if he were reaching into a meat grinder; an invisible force was not only pulling him downwards but also tearing at his muscles.
He stood in a horse stance, veins bulging on his forehead, sweat dripping down his chin.
"Ah!" With a roar, greed was slowly pulled out.
However, Lu Mingfei could only pull the blade halfway out before he could not continue, as the blade became stuck in the scabbard.
In the end, Lu Mingfei had no choice but to give up and push the knife back to its original position.
"Lazy" is a Han Dynasty octagonal sword with a black scabbard covered with fine, scale-like patterns.
Lu Mingfei gripped the sword hilt with both hands, exerting all his strength, but could only move it an inch.
The suction force inside the scabbard was like a black hole; he could even feel his life force being greedily drained by this weapon.
"Arrogance" was even more ruthless; the elegantly designed knight's longsword remained completely still, and Lu Mingfei could only make the hilt sway slightly no matter how hard he tried.
“Next game, ‘Jealousy’,” Flamel cautioned. “Don’t force it.”
Lu Mingfei was speechless and could only nod.
Touching the hilt of Jealousy, the weapon, nearly as tall as a person, emitted a deep hum, and the scabbard trembled slightly, as if in response to his touch.
But that was all. No matter how hard Lu Mingfei tried, jealousy refused to leave the knife case.
The final "rage" is a giant horse-slaying sword, which is enough to make your legs go weak just by looking at it.
Lu Mingfei gripped the chain-bound hilt of the knife with both hands, feeling as if he were trying to shake a castle.
Just as he was about to give up, a barely audible resonance came from deep within the scabbard, and the furious blade tip tilted upwards by less than a millimeter.
"They all reacted," Flamel said, raising an eyebrow in surprise. "It seems our S-class is genuine."
Lu Mingfei slumped to the ground, his shirt soaked with sweat.
He looked at his hands; his palms were covered with red marks, and in some places the skin was even chafed.
“Next, Fingel! Stop laughing and get your sword drawn,” Flamel called to Fingel, who was secretly eating snacks.
"Watch this!" Fingel proudly displayed his well-developed biceps and swaggered to the knife case.
He easily pulled out "lust" and "gluttony," and "greed" was dealt with in just one deep breath.
But when he got "lazy," this muscular old man started sweating.
"Arrogance" directly led to his defeat, and no matter how he changed his posture, he could not budge him in the slightest.
"Change players," Angers commanded curtly.
Chu Zihang silently stepped forward, his movements clean and swift, the first two weapons being drawn almost instantly upon contact.
But when it came to "greed," he also encountered obstacles.
Chu Zihang tried to exert force three times, but an accident occurred.
"Crack!"
The carvings on the hilt sprang out fine, sharp spikes that pierced deeply into Chu Zihang's palm.
Fresh blood dripped down the hilt of the knife and was absorbed by the scabbard.
Everyone was stunned, and at the same time, the other weapons in the scabbard emitted dangerous sounds.
“He was rejected,” Frilian said softly. “The Seven Deadly Sins do not approve of him.”
Chu Zihang stepped back, letting the blood drip down.
Lu Mingfei immediately stepped forward to bandage the wound. He originally thought that Chu Zihang could easily pull out all the swords, but he did not expect that Greed would refuse Chu Zihang.
Finally, it was Frilian's turn.
The silver-haired girl did not step forward immediately, but stood three steps away from the sword box and softly chanted ancient syllables.
The language was like the echo of the wind passing through a canyon, or the song of a whale in the deep sea.
Lu Mingfei felt his blood begin to heat up with that sound, and a fear from the depths of his genes gripped his heart.
The seven weapons trembled violently at the same time, and then with a "clang," they automatically ejected from their scabbards, hovering in the air and trembling slightly, like subjects bowing to their monarch.
Frilian didn't even touch them; she simply stretched out her right hand and gently ran it over the back of each weapon. The fierce alchemical weapons became as docile as domesticated cats.
Angers and Flamel exchanged a glance.
"Meeting adjourned," Flamel said. "Today's testing is over."
Apart from Chu Zihang, everyone else left one after another.
Chapter 120 Rejected
The office door closed gently, making a soft click.
Everyone had left, leaving only Chu Zihang standing in front of Angers.
Angers didn't turn around. He bent down to examine the Seven Deadly Sins' scabbard. "I knew you'd stay. How does it feel to be rejected by greed?"
Chu Zihang's golden eyes shone like two inextinguishable lamps in the dimly lit room.
He did not answer immediately, but walked to the table and stared at the "greed" that had wounded him.
The spikes on the hilt had retracted, leaving only a few barely visible dark red marks—his blood.
“Although Lu Mingfei is rated as S-class,” Angers said, taking a handkerchief from his suit pocket and tossing it to Chu Zihang, “many people in the academy believe that you are the real S-class, or even a super S-class.”
"This is a bloodline purity test."
Chu Zihang took the handkerchief and wiped the blood from his palm. The wound had mostly healed, and the regenerative ability of a mixed-race person was particularly evident in him.
"I know."
“Finger can pull it all the way back, you can’t,” Angers said, leaning against the edge of his desk. “Why were you rejected by greed?”
The overhead light flickered, casting a shadow on Chu Zihang's face.
“Because I’ve had my bloodline cleansed.” He raised his eyes and looked directly at the principal. “My bloodline purity won’t improve anytime soon.”
Ang nodded, a complex emotion in his eyes.
"Yes, your father, Chu Tianjiao, is a rare hybrid, but your mother is just an ordinary human. Your initial bloodline purity was only grade B."
Chu Zihang's golden eyes narrowed slightly, and his fingers tightened around the handkerchief.
A brief silence fell over the office, broken only by the rhythmic ticking of the antique wall clock.
Those deliberately forgotten fragments of memory come alive: the look in his father's eyes the night before he left home, his mother's oblivious smile, and the Maybach in the rainy night that would forever change his destiny.
“Your bloodline was forcibly enhanced through a blood surge,” Angers said, turning around. “You and I both know the consequences.”
"The undying golden eyes are just the beginning, a manifestation of bloodline going out of control."
“The only outcome is becoming Deadpool and then being killed,” Angers added softly.
A brief silence fell over the room.
“If you can control your use of Blood Explosion,” Angers walked to the wine cabinet and took out two glasses, “you might be able to slow down the rate of loss of control and live a little longer.”
He poured two glasses of whiskey and pushed one of them toward Chu Zihang.
Chu Zihang did not answer.
"How long?" he asked.
Angers paused in his act of raising his glass. "How long?"
"My lifespan," Chu Zihang's voice was terrifyingly calm, "at the current rate of loss of control, how much longer can I live?"
The amber-colored liquor swirls in the glass, and a burning gaze passes through the glass to look at the distant campus.
"Three years? Two years?" He took a sip of his drink. "No one can predict it accurately. Bloodline refining technology is like dancing on the edge of a cliff; every step could lead to utter destruction."
Angers sighed softly.
“In the more than 100 years since the establishment of Kassel College, we have recorded 164 users of the Blood Burst technique, with an average survival time of three years and two months. The longest survival time was 20 years, when he finally committed suicide by self-immolation in a volcano in Iceland.”
“I’ve reviewed the files,” Chu Zihang said.
"Of course, you're always very meticulous. But the files won't tell you what the guy who persisted for twenty years was like in his last three months. His skin started to grow dragon scales, his bones deformed, and he had to lock himself in an iron cage. His students brought him food every day through a long tube, until one day, he bit through the tube, along with half of the person who brought him the food."
Angers put down his glass. “There’s a plan, the Nibelungen Plan.”
Chu Zihang raised his head.
“Only this plan can break through the bloodline limitation and save you.” Angers took out an encrypted document from the drawer. “Through the combination of alchemy and genetic engineering, it is theoretically possible to stabilize and improve the bloodline purity of hybrids without worrying about the risk of going out of control.”
The plan included photos of three people: Lu Mingfei, Caesar, and Chu Zihang himself.
“Lu Mingfei is undoubtedly an S-class, as you saw today; all seven weapons reacted to him. Caesar has the support of the Gattuso family and innate leadership qualities. And you…”
He looked at Chu Zihang, "You have something that none of them have."
"what?"
“Despair,” Angers said softly. “A person who truly stands on the edge of a cliff can unleash unimaginable power. The Nibelungen Project needs that power.”
Chu Zihang closed the file and handed it back to Angers. "I need to think about it."
Ang nodded, seemingly having anticipated this answer. "Lu Mingfei and Caesar are unaware of the full scope of this plan. You have two months to make a decision."
Chu Zihang nodded slightly, then pushed open the door and left.
The office fell silent again.
Angers stood there, staring at the closed door, until the vice-principal Flamel slipped in through a hidden door behind the bookshelf.
“Eavesdropping is not a good habit,” Angers said without turning his head.
"Come on, you were the one who made me install that secret door." Flamel sat down on the sofa with a nonchalant air, picked up the wine that Chu Zihang hadn't finished, and drank it all in one gulp. "That kid Lu Mingfei is really amazing. All seven weapons reacted. There aren't many people in history who can do that, right?"
Angers walked back to his desk and sat down. "No more than ten."
