Chapter 45 Whispers of the Frosty Trees
As everyone took their seats, the meeting began. Just as Shireenville was about to speak, a frost elf who looked like a middle-aged man interrupted her and gave her a meaningful look at Hughes.
Clearly, what Shireenville was about to say would involve secrets of their tribe, and it was inappropriate for Hughes, an outsider, to listen in.
Hughes, sensing the situation, prepared to leave first. Just as he stood up, an inexplicable force stopped him. It was Shireenville, seated at the head of the table. She waved her hand and said:
"The three heads of Everfrost Spire know that we have the sap of the Tree of Life, which is why we in Leviser can be on good terms with Everfrost Spire."
After everyone sat down, Hughes was extremely shocked. The sap of the Tree of Life did not simply refer to the liquid on the tree, but rather a golden sap containing a trace of the Tree of Life's life essence.
Not all Trees of Life possess sap; only certain Trees of Life may occasionally shed a single drop.
When the Tree of Life is about to ooze sap, all the elves and half-elves associated with it will sense it and collect it in special containers.
It can be described as the all-purpose elixir of the Pokémon world, not only safely restoring the stats of dying creatures, but also enabling them to evolve and grow in the best possible direction.
Furthermore, if a fully-fledged wizard, an elf or half-elf, receives a hint from the Tree of Life, they can consume its juice and directly advance to the second level of wizard.
"The Dulink want the sap of our race's Tree of Life. They must have some method to bypass the Tree of Life's permission and directly use the sap to advance to the second level of wizard," Shirinville said.
Then, she looked at Hughes and said:
"Then, please have this apprentice from Everfrost Spire, Hughes Craig, describe what happened."
The elves looked at Hughes, who stood unremarkable opposite their leader.
When Hughes saw a dozen pairs of icy blue eyes staring at him, he instantly realized that they still had doubts about him.
Hughes then slowly stood up, bowed to Shirinville and the other formal wizards, and then slowly and deliberately recounted in detail his purpose in coming to the Iceridge Mountains, his encounter with the distressed frost elves, and the equipment of the 10 frost-skinned dwarves.
The frost elves seemed thoughtful after hearing this.
"A squad of ten third-class wizard apprentices as dwarves? That must be the top squad among the Frostskin Dwarves. This squad would be led by two full-fledged wizards. Where are those two full-fledged wizards?"
The speaker was also an elderly frost elf, wearing a large hood that covered his eyes.
"They should wait until their subordinates find our territory before attacking, but we have over a dozen full-fledged wizards, and our leader is close to breaking through to level two. How can they be so confident?"
This time it was a young male frost elf, carrying a silver cross sword on his back.
"I suspect there are other wizards behind them. The Frostskin Dwarves have far more official wizards than we do. Could it be that Dulink will come in person?" a Frost Elf worriedly said.
"..."
Shirinville gestured with her eyes to the elderly frost elf sitting next to her, who was her uncle from earlier.
"Alright, everyone quiet down and listen to the leader."
"This old frost elf said loudly."
The scene fell silent instantly.
"Now we should focus on protecting the sap of the Tree of Life. I will send more people to protect the vault... Meeting adjourned."
After assigning everyone their responsibilities, Shireenville ended the meeting, and the elves left one after another. Hughes remained where he was, waiting for further instructions, as he still had his payment to collect.
After everyone had left, Shireenville spoke to Hughes:
"My father has already told me. I will send someone to deliver the potion to you. There are still frost-skinned dwarves outside, so you can stay in the guest room for now. I will arrange for Keller to entertain you. If you have any questions, just ask him."
After she finished speaking, she led Hughes to a secluded wooden house, where Hughes realized that the old frost elf was the father of the frost elf leader in front of him.
The interior of the cabin was exquisite, with all the necessary furniture. Hughes took off his Frostbreath Robe and lay down on the wooden bed. There were still many days left before the mission deadline, so he wasn't in a hurry and could take the opportunity to experience the local customs and culture.
"Knock knock knock"
Soon, a knock came at the door. Hughes got up and opened the wooden door, where a frost elf dressed as a guard appeared.
He wore light silver armor with exquisite blue stripes, and his face was obscured by a mask. He held a small box in his hands.
"This is the reward the leader asked me to give you," he said calmly, handing over the box in his hand.
Hughes took the box, and after confirming that the mission was completed, the guard turned and left.
The village of Livisel has patrolling guards, whom Hughes encountered when he went to the Frozen Breath Tree with Shirinville. They are generally at the level of second or third-class wizard apprentices.
The Everfrost Spire also has similar enforcement teams, all composed of third-class wizard apprentices. This is a long-term mission, and I heard that Nora has just broken through and is preparing to join an enforcement team.
However, the enforcement team turns a blind eye to many things; for example, last time, even though Buck Deathsius was only taken in for a symbolic questioning.
After closing the wooden door, Hughes eagerly opened the box. Inside was a soft cushion with five vials of potion neatly laid out on it, the icy blue liquid inside emitting a faint glow.
There was also a piece of paper inside that described these mental potions.
Hughes picked them up and examined them. These potions were called Frost Whisper Potions, and they were all of acceptable quality.
If the wizard has an affinity for ice elements, taking it will increase the efficiency of meditation by 3 times, while for others it will increase the efficiency by 1.5 times. The side effect is that the body will freeze, and the duration varies depending on the constitution.
Hughes really hit the jackpot this time. He originally thought that Shirinville would only give him one or two bottles, but he didn't expect her to be so generous and give him a whole five bottles!
If sold, this would be equivalent to nearly a thousand magic stones, and it would probably be enough for Hughes to use until he develops resistance to the drug. The Ouroboros Spirit last time was about the same amount.
However, Hughes wasn't going to use it right away; he needed to go back and prepare something to warm himself up before using it. Hughes put the box into his storage bag and sat on the bed, quietly waiting for Keller's arrival.
