The Inside Story of Chapter 33
A beam of flame pierced the mist and shot towards the red-eyed zombie again, this second fire arrow igniting its entire body.
A stench of burning filled the air as the zombie struggled and collapsed, turning into black charcoal ash.
"Goat" and "Broken Arrow" also stopped in their tracks at this moment.
"Linse, hurry back! We'll meet you here!"
"Although the fog obstructs visibility, it's not too thick. Within ten or twenty meters, my 'Broken Arrow' can still provide support!"
Linsset moved forward through the fog, following his previous impressions, and he could vaguely see the outline of the spear he had dropped ahead of him.
Two resurrected zombies blocked his path.
"Get out of the way!"
Linsset fired a flaming arrow, followed immediately by a slash with his right-hand iron sword.
The zombie on the left was hit by a fire trick and immediately burst into flames, while the other one on the right had half its head shaved off.
He successfully obtained the spear and inserted it into the leather strap on his back that held the weapon.
"Ugh..."
Not far away, another zombie roared and charged toward Linse.
Its eyes gleamed with a fierce red light, and it swung its rough wooden stick wildly. It was faster than the other zombies that were heading towards Lin Sai, and it had already rushed to within ten meters of Lin Sai.
Why is there another one with red eyes? Could it be that the necromancer has changed his possession target?
Linsel aimed and fired a flaming arrow, which struck the red-eyed zombie squarely in the face. Then, without looking back, he ran toward his three teammates.
"It's time to go, let's get out of here!"
Seeing that Linsel had used his fire magic to thwart the red-eyed zombie and successfully escape, the three realized that he no longer needed cover, so they ran south together.
After running several hundred meters and seeing that the red-eyed zombies were no longer chasing them, the four slowed down and breathed a sigh of relief.
Lyon said thankfully, "That red-eyed zombie was really powerful. Luckily, we ran fast enough that it stopped chasing us after a while because it couldn't catch up."
The "goat" grumbled, "That was only because Lindsay's magic trick held it back..."
"Yes, Lindsay, it was your magic that saved me! You're amazing! You're practically the strongest Iron-rank adventurer I've ever seen!"
"Yes, Lindsay, you've kept this from us for so long. I think your true identity is at least that of a mage apprentice."
"Broken Arrow" joined the middle-aged adventurer, saying, "Yeah, Linsel, why don't you team up with us from now on? We two bronze-level adventurers will take you through iron-level quests; you'll level up very quickly."
"That's fine, Brinnan, but we'll have to wait until later. I still have some questions for 'Goat' right now."
After answering "Broken Arrow," Linssey waved his hands at "Goat," saying, "Oh, no, uncle, I learned this trick by chance. I've never been a magician."
He then changed the subject.
"I was just about to ask, now that we've killed all the zombies in the cemetery, does that mean we've completed the mission?"
"Of course it counts. The guild's inspectors will check it later, and we'll still get our mission rewards."
"But how do those inspectors conduct their investigations? It always feels like they appear out of nowhere, you can never see them."
Linsel was already very interested in guild inspectors.
Adventurer Kavi said he saw it once when he was a child, and he once asked Gina Vie of the Linchui Town Guild, but she said it involved guild secrets and she didn't know anything about it.
The middle-aged adventurer shrugged: "I don't know either. Anyway, how would we low-level adventurers know about what's going on in the guild?"
However, I once heard someone from a guild say that he had spoken with the inspectors, and that those people were ruthless, unable to distinguish right from wrong, extremely rigid in their work, and prioritized work above all else—they were terrifying.
"Is this true? Are the guild's investigators really that neutral?"
"Why would I lie to you, Lindsay? This Adventurers' Guild is unaffected by race or nation, always remaining neutral, and there are plenty of eccentric people in it."
The world is vast; our seven or eight human nations occupy only a small portion of it. There are countless strange things and strange people in this world.
"Senior, have you finished talking with Lindsay? I have a potentially serious question to ask!"
Leon pursed his lips; he sensed something was amiss.
"The necromancer resurrected the zombies we killed. Does that mean we killed them? From the outcome, killing them and then resurrecting them is the same as not killing them at all!"
You're wrong.
"Goat" smiled meaningfully: "It counts as completing the mission. After all, the zombies we killed and the zombies resurrected by necromancy are two different things."
Besides, you've only been an adventurer for a short time, so you don't know the details of this quest. Guilds frequently issue these kinds of zombie-clearing quests.
I've been to several cities in our Golden Lion Kingdom, and these zombies and ghouls appear in the cemeteries all the time.
Those wandering necromancers seem to have nothing better to do than constantly resurrect zombies for adventurers to kill. I wonder what their motives are.
"As long as we can get it done, that's fine. Also, why did those vulture gang bandits suddenly come to the cemetery and run right into us?"
"Goat" took a few gulps of water and continued answering Leon's questions.
"I don't know. Maybe they want to dig up graves and make money off the dead. But I don't think any wealthy gentlemen or businessmen would be buried in the cemetery in Linchui Town."
"Broken Arrow," who hadn't said much until now, added, "The Golden Lion Kingdom and the Raven Kingdom just finished a war recently, and many people died. Now, zombies are constantly appearing on the roads and in the cemeteries."
Moreover, those necromancy spells also have secret techniques that can increase the number of zombies. It's just that our Linchui Town is far from the border, so it's less affected.
"Is it alright if we ignore that necromancy?"
"Goat" shook the empty water bag: "Never mind, Lyon, let's go back to town and collect our reward. My mouth is dry from talking so much."
……
Linchui Town, Guild Tavern, noon.
"After verification, your mission has been completed. Each person will receive 6 silver coins and 6 points."
Gina sat at her desk and counted the silver coins, distributing them to Lindsay and the other three.
"Goat": "See, I told you, it doesn't matter."
Leon, standing nearby, seemed to have an idea: "Since it's 6 silver coins per person, wouldn't a group of adventurers make a lot of money doing one mission?"
"Dream on, adventurer. Unless otherwise specified, the maximum number of participants for each guild-issued quest is six."
"Oh, okay." Leon was quite disheartened by Gina's cold reply.
The four walked out of the guild office.
"Broken Arrow" said, "So, Lindsay, will you agree to team up with us now?"
"Is your squad a formal squad?" Lindsay asked in return.
"No, low-level adventurers don't really have formal teams; they all work in temporary teams to complete missions."
Linsley plans to invite these two bronze-level adventurers to join the [Sharp Teeth] team.
These two seem pretty capable and nice people. With their help, our future adventures will surely go much smoother.
"I have a full-fledged squad, would you like to join?"
