Cyberpunk: I didn't cheat.

Chapter 16 See you again

"Hey, Vito, you have no idea what kind of job I got. The priest gave me a job, and he even asked me about you. He wants you to come with me to finish this job so we can meet him."

As soon as Vito answered Jack's call, he heard Jack excitedly shouting.

"Okay, Jack, I got it. How come you're perfectly fine after drinking so much last night?"

Jack laughed and said, "To be honest, my head feels like it's been hit by a nuclear bomb today, but once I got the job, the pain disappeared. Vito, this is the first step to becoming a legend. Come on, Wild Wolf, let's get together."

After agreeing to Jack's request, Vito took a double-barreled sprayer from David's room, put it in a long gift box, and then set off for the wolves.

After the two met, Jack couldn't wait to introduce the mission.

"This time, the priest asked us to help a basketball star named LeBron find his car. Apparently, some street thieves stole it. We have to do it right away. It's said that the group stole the car and then went to participate in a stunt race."

Vito handed the box to Jack.

"How much did you pay for this gift?"

Jack took the gift box and began to speak as he unwrapped it.

"Money? Dude, we're here to make a name for ourselves, not for the money. Once we become legends, the money'll just flow in. Holy crap, how come this shotgun barrel is so big?"

"My modified toy works best with slugs. Alright, Legend, let's get to work. I'm not really interested in cheap commissions, but you're right, there has to be a beginning."

"Everything is difficult at the beginning. Let's go. I borrowed a car to get around. If we're lucky, we can finish the job today."

The two drove a Hera EC-V 1660 station wagon to the coordinates of the Lijiang scenic area. They soon spotted their target vehicle, where several trendy-looking guys were chatting and talking in the alleyway.

"Jack, drive over there and park next to them."

As soon as the car stopped, the high-spirited motorcyclists started cursing.

"You stupid idiot, can't you see anyone's here?"

Vito opened the car door, got out, and walked over to them.

"Don't rush to spew nonsense. Is this your car?"

A guy who looked like the leader of the group sat on the hood and yelled.

"This is my car, don't you dare look around, or I'll gouge your eyes out."

Jack then got out of the car, holding the DB-2 pistol that Vito had given him. This large-caliber shotgun, modified by Vito, was practically a hand cannon.

"Kid, Mr. Wells is warning you not to talk nonsense. This is a Falcon; you guys can't afford it."

The leader swallowed hard as he looked at the cannon-like gun in Jack's hand.

"Who, who said I can't afford it? This is my car!"

Vito scanned the car with his crosshairs, then walked up to the leader of the thugs.

"This is LeBang's car. Tell me, how did you get it?"

The leader gritted his teeth and said.

"This is the car that the big black guy lost to us in the race. The race was fair, just and open. If you don't believe me, go ask him. Damn, I knew that guy couldn't accept defeat. Now he's getting people to take the car back."

The thugs on the motorcycles nearby chimed in.

"Yes, it was agreed before the competition that you wouldn't try to scare us with guns. If you've got the guts, go rob the company!"

Jack listened to these people's detailed and seemingly plausible explanations, and suddenly he was at a loss. He looked at Vito.

Vito thought for a moment and then said.

"Tell me how he lost to you guys, don't leave out a single word, I want to hear if someone is lying."

The group chatted and explained the whole story. Vito got the key information: LeBron, the basketball star who had left Haywood, got drunk and was bragging to a motorcycle girl at the bar, saying she could take him home in a motorcycle. Fernando, the leader of the motorcycle gang at the bar, happened to overhear this.

Fernando doesn't usually watch football, and since the bar was dark and LeBron's dark face wasn't visible, he told LeBron to stop bragging and to run a race instead.

Under the influence of alcohol, LeBon immediately agreed, and the two groups went out to get their cars. Fernando was a little intimidated when he first saw LeBon drive a Falcon, so he suggested betting fifty euros.

LeBang, with one arm around the girl, spoke with an air of arrogance.

"If you want to bet, bet on cars. If you've got the guts, bet your car against me. If not, you might as well go home and rest."

Fernando was about to give up, but seeing LeBron's smug look, he gritted his teeth, stomped his foot, and took a drag of glitter.

"Fine, I'll bet with you!"

Later, LeBon was indeed under the influence of alcohol. He almost crashed into the roadside after only a short distance. He was so scared that he only dared to drive on autopilot the whole time. Fernando easily won the race. LeBon wanted to cheat, but when he saw that someone recognized him, he had to swallow his anger.

After hearing the story, Vito and Jack exchanged a glance. This job was going to be a lot of trouble for little pay.

"Vito, what do we do now? If we steal the car, we'll be in the wrong."

Vito said helplessly.

"We're mercenaries. We do whatever we're assigned. Whether we're in the right or not is none of our business. But LeBon is really dishonest. He doesn't even admit that he lost the competition."

"Should I call the priest?"

"Forget it, that would make us look even less professional."

Vito looked at Fernando.

"Let's have a race, according to the rules of the street. If you win, I'll give you a thousand; if you lose, you return the car to me, and I'll give you three hundred. How about it?"

Fernando didn't want to cause trouble. The mercenaries who came this time were easy to talk to, but they might not be so easy next time. Since he could still get money even if he lost, he gladly accepted the offer.

"It's settled. From Qing Teng Road to Dinara, the passenger in the front seat can fire a gun and ram the vehicle."

"Okay, get ready, we'll begin in a bit."

Jack wasn't sure, he said.

"My driving skills aren't at a racing level. Me, sitting in the passenger seat, firing a gun?"

Vito adjusted his seat and inserted a magic puppet into the brain-computer interface.

"I'll drive. Don't worry, that kid can't win. I'll brake his car later."

Jack didn't waste any more words and got into the passenger seat.

After a short while of preparation, the two cars stopped side by side at the starting line, with Vito on the left and Fernando on the right.

After the starting signal, the two cars sped off the starting line. Jack, quick-witted, pointed his hand at Fernando, who was about to charge, and the latter slammed on the brakes in fright.

The two cars sped along the road, one after the other. Fernando, relying on the superior performance of his Falcon, kept a close watch on Vito, ready to overtake at any moment. Jack occasionally fired a couple of random shots to distract Fernando.

Just two kilometers from the finish line, Fernando found an opportunity and overtook Vito in a pendulum-like maneuver around the corner.

"Hahaha, I've got this in the bag!"

Fernando was only 500 meters from the finish line, and he floored the accelerator, unleashing the full power of the Falcon's sprint.

squeak~

A screech of brakes rang out, and the Falcon was forced to a stop. Vito had hacked Fernando's car and brought it to a sudden stop.

Vito sprinted past Fernando.

The outcome is decided.
