Cyberpunk: I didn't cheat.

Chapter 38 Not of Earth

After his companion was healed, Carlo paid the bill readily and even bought a rifle before leaving. Judging from how much he loved it, he would definitely become a repeat customer soon.

"Come on, Gloria, how about we go to the boxing gym and have some fun?"

Jack extended an invitation to Gloria.

"No, I'd rather stay in the shop. I don't really like the fighting arena."

"Alright then, I'll have someone ship Old Wei's shipment over later. Gloria, you can have them move the goods to the warehouse inside. Thanks!"

Gloria waved her hand, indicating that the two could go without worry.

Upon arriving at the Devil's Boxing Club, they saw Old Vie talking quietly with Coach Fred in a corner.

"Hey, Lao Wei, how have you been lately?"

Vito stepped forward and greeted him.

Old Vito gave Vito a hug.

"It's alright. I watch boxing matches and fix my prosthetic body every day. The old man's life is still manageable."

Coach Fred went up to greet Vito when he saw him.

"You're Vito? The famous Vito?"

Vito shrugged.

"It's Vito, but not necessarily very famous."

Fred was excited, he said, pulling Vito along.

"I'm so glad you could come. I happened to be away when you came to the club last time, and look what happened."

Vito didn't understand why Fred was being so enthusiastic, so he pulled Fred's hand away and asked him.

"Stop, stop, stop! Tell me what happened first. This is only my second time at the club today, so it shouldn't be anything to do with me, right?"

Fred explained.

"You know Night City is going to hold a competition, but this is different from the old underground tournaments. More participants, more prize money, and more betting odds. This time, to ensure the competition is more entertaining, they've specifically stipulated that some cybernetic devices can't be activated. Do you know what that means?"

Vito was very accommodating.

"What does that mean?"

"This means we'll see a lot of guys with superb fighting skills but no advanced cybernetic implants competing!"

"so what?"

"So Vito, you absolutely have to compete. I heard from Jack that you once kicked a cyber lunatic with heavy prosthetics, S.A.W.S ...

Jack, standing nearby, complained.

"Hey! Old Fred, didn't you say in your message that I was definitely the one to win? How come it's Vito now?"

Fredo patted Jack's burly arm.

"Sorry, as you know, Vito is the most famous person in Haywood now."

Jack couldn't deny this, and could only say helplessly.

"Alright, what can I say about my own buddy? But Vito, we're going to have a match later, the kind where all the prosthetics are off!"

Vito laughed heartily.

"As you wish, Mr. Wells!"

After most of the club members had arrived, Fred arranged the competition schedule, and the champion would represent Haywood in the major tournament.

After a burst of cheers, the matches began in each boxing ring.

Among those participating in the selection were gangsters, mercenaries, and amateur enthusiasts. Vito even saw two NCPD officers participating in the selection.

Jack quickly defeated his opponent, a veteran of the club, who had struggled for six rounds against him.

Vito was even faster. After analyzing his opponent's characteristics in the first round, Vito seized an opening and knocked his opponent down in the second round.

The selection process continued into the evening, culminating in the final match that everyone was eagerly anticipating: Jack Wells versus Vito.

In the first round, Vito went all out, landing a barrage of rapid punches on Jack's frame.

Jack could only keep adjusting and parrying, and in the first round, Jack was completely at a disadvantage.

Back in their respective corners, Old Vieux, acting as Jack's temporary coach, was adjusting Jack's strategy.

"Jack, you can't just stand still and defend. Your footwork and swaying need to keep up!"

Jack was panting heavily.

"Vito's punches were fast and heavy. The force he used on my gloves was so great that my strategy was immediately disrupted. I could only defend myself to prevent him from hitting my head!"

Old Vie pressed on Jack's shoulder.

"Relax. Vito wants to finish this quickly. You must not lose your composure. Use your footwork, and you must also throw punches. Otherwise, even the strongest fortress will be breached under a fierce attack."

"good!"

In the other corner.

"Awesome, Vito, keep playing like that!"

Fred is now like a player who has mastered the version's answer, facing an ancient, bottom-tier hero, requiring absolutely no skill.

What numbers? All I see is talent and hard work.

Ding!

The bell rang to start the second round.

Jack changed his strategy this time, using the butterfly step to move around constantly, occasionally lunging forward to throw a punch.

Vito suddenly stood still, which confused Jack. He wanted to drag Vito into a mobile battle, but Vito remained motionless.

Jack stepped forward and unleashed a combination of straight punches followed by a backflip and a hook, but Vito stood still and dodged them all by shaking his head.

Jack was getting impatient; all he could see was Vito's face, and he just wanted to hit that face, even just once.

"Jack, don't fall for it!"

Old Vince shouted a warning to Jack from below the ring, but it was too late.

Vito suddenly crouched down and landed a left hook on Jack's unsuspecting abdomen, causing Jack to stagger. Then, Vito followed up with a right uppercut, which passed through Jack's uncontrollable hand and struck Jack's chin.

Boom!

Jack collapsed onto the boxing ring, and the referee began counting down.

"Eight! Nine! Ten!"

The referee crossed his arms, signaling the end of the match.

The crowd erupted in noise. They thought that Jack was a size bigger than Vito, and that even if it wasn't a one-sided affair, it should have been a close match. How could it have ended in less than two rounds?

Old Wei shook his head with a wry smile, then went up on stage to check on Jack's condition.

I'm not afraid of a strong opponent; I'm afraid of an opponent who is not only strong but also strategically superior.

Jack shook his head and slowly got up. Vito took off his gloves and went over to help him up.

"Damn, Mano, your hands are like cannonballs!"

Fred's face lit up with a smile.

"Everyone's watching you, Vito. They can feel the hunger in your heart; they know you'll be the champion!"

Vito helped Jack up and said.

"Take it easy and relax for a few days. If you put all your money on my head, we might be able to buy a new motorcycle. I heard there's a retro collector's edition on the market called Seitaro. We can't miss it."

Jack took a few minutes to process the loss to Vito, after all, he could tell that Vito was also an expert in combat.

"If Vito, you can perform like this every game, I'll even have extra money to renovate the Wolves!"
