125. Evil God's Castle
Arno pried open a small hole in the Iron Mask, stuck out his tongue and licked the remaining green blood on his fist, then spat it out repeatedly in disgust.
It seems this spider really doesn't taste very good; even Arno, who is not picky about food, can't bring himself to eat it.
"Keep killing, take care of the other two too."
Upon receiving the instruction, Arnold slightly bent his knees and then suddenly launched himself forward.
The dark gray figure drew an arc in the air and landed heavily on the edge of the spider web.
The two spiders finally reacted. One opened its huge mouthparts and sprayed venom from glands inside its throat; the other climbed up the rock wall, seemingly to do something else.
Arno released a blood-red shield, blocking the venom.
Then, with a light leap, he twisted his body in mid-air and punched the spider's head away, sending it crashing into the rock wall and turning into a pile of mangled flesh.
At this moment, another spider also made a move. It climbed to the top of the cave, released spider silk from the glands on its abdomen to stick to the rock wall, and then ran in the opposite direction of Arno, stretching out the spider silk.
Then it jumped off the rock wall, its entire body and silk forming a giant pendulum, swinging towards Arno.
Arno was standing at the very bottom of the pendulum, where the spider was moving the fastest. Combined with its enormous size, it was practically a carbon-based supercar.
As the spider swung towards him at high speed, Arno didn't react and was knocked into the spider web.
The spider pressed its advantage, climbing onto the web. Its eight chelicerae moved swiftly and erratically, drawing out fine threads that wrapped around Arno's body. Before long, half of Arno's body was submerged in the milky-white silken pupa.
But Arno is a supermodel with incredible stats. He tore through the tough spider silk on the spot, raised his hand and deeply embedded it in the spider's head. Red arcs of electricity danced in the spider's eyes and then suddenly exploded!
boom!!!
Green blood and tissue fragments poured down like rain, soaking Arno's head and face, even turning Iron Mask green.
The spider's body twitched twice, its legs gradually lost strength, and it slid off the web, falling to the ground with its eight legs stiffly raised in the air.
Arno jumped off the spider web and then unleashed a bolt of red lightning that shattered its corpse, sending countless spiderlings scattering in all directions.
Norn walked over to the spider web and carefully examined the black debris on it.
Those remains were completely dried and decayed, making it impossible to tell what kind of creature they were, but it was certain that they were not human.
"It seems that Shared and the others did not come here."
As Norn was thinking this, he heard a conversation coming from the cave behind him.
"I told you, we should have gone over and killed those spiders back then. This godforsaken place has no other way out!" Uru's rough voice was easily recognizable.
"It's worth spending this time. We've never seen those spiders before, and we don't know their strength. If we can avoid it, we shouldn't get involved," Shared replied.
"Don't worry, Lord Shared, Felix doesn't need to lift a finger. I can take care of those three spiders all by myself."
"Shut up! Felix, you have to help, and so do you guys. I didn't pay you to come here and carry things!"
Norn turned around and saw Shared and the others walking towards them.
Uru walked ahead, his broadsword already drawn. He was taken aback when he saw the spider remains on the ground.
"Huh? What happened? I haven't even made a move yet, who killed it?"
Sharred pushed up his glasses and squinted as he saw Homan and Arno walking toward them in the distance.
"Arno, where have you been? I didn't see you when we came out of the abyss pool. And you..."
Sharred turned to Norn, "And what happened to you? We thought you were dead."
Norn made up some excuses to fob him off, and Sharred didn't intend to investigate further. He turned and tilted his head at Koroya.
Koroya handed Norn his backpack and made him put it back on.
"Did you kill all these spiders?" Uru asked, poking at the sticky, bloody flesh on the ground with his greatsword.
"Arno killed him," Norn replied.
"Yes, I thought so too." Uru sheathed his sword and turned to Shared with a smile:
"My lord, you're being too cautious. This spider isn't that strong at all. If he can handle it, I could kill ten of them by myself!"
Shared glanced at the arrogant brute with disgust, and finally, unable to contain himself any longer, said:
"I'm warning you, don't underestimate the Ninth Floor! Do you think you can fight Barnabas from the Rotten River Underground City? Let me tell you, that's just a product of the Sixth Floor. You haven't experienced the true terror of the Ninth Floor yet, so stop showing off!"
A flash of anger crossed Uru's eyes, but it quickly died down. He would have beaten anyone else to a pulp, but this was his boss, so he had to swallow his anger.
He glared at Arno with resentment, feeling that all the embarrassment he had caused was because of this big guy.
If he had killed the spider, Shared would never have spoken to him like that.
Sharred pulled out a notebook and a fountain pen he had researched himself from his chest, and leaned close to Norn to ask him about the spiders, such as how they attacked and what their habits were.
Norn told the truth, after all, it was something that would be recorded in the strategy guide later, and a casual lie he made might kill some future adventurer.
"Alright, let's go." Shared put the notebook back in and led the group out of the cave.
Felix raised his wand and unleashed a fireball at the spiderweb. Once the web was burned away, the group left the cave.
The sky above the ninth floor was a gloomy gray, as if covered by a layer of unclean gray cloth, pressing low overhead and making it hard to breathe.
The ground was a vast expanse of wild grassland with a few scattered trees. It was neither as desolate as the seventh level of the Rotten River Underground City, nor as fertile as the eighth.
"Is this the ninth floor...?"
Every member of the team kept this thought in mind, even though they were all steel-level adventurers, it was their first time venturing into this place.
Apart from Uru and Arno, everyone else felt a certain awe towards this place. They were constantly on guard, fearing that something might suddenly attack them.
Uru dismissed this with a smile, believing that he had never been to the ninth floor simply because his guild hadn't been involved in any missions there; otherwise, he would have really wanted to come and see for himself.
Shared walked in the middle of the group, holding a notebook in his hand. He would glance down at it from time to time, then look up to check the outline of the distant hills, as if confirming the direction.
The group followed him in silence, no one spoke, only the rustling of boots on the grass and the occasional cough.
In this situation, the quieter it is, the more oppressive it feels.
After walking for about ten minutes, Mur finally couldn't hold back any longer and asked, "Lord Shared, where are we going?"
This question was like a pebble thrown into a calm pond, creating ripples throughout the group.
The other team members all perked up their ears, their eyes simultaneously drawn to Xia Leide's retreating figure.
From the moment they entered the dungeon, they were like a flock of sheep being herded, constantly moving forward under Shared's leadership.
At first, they thought this mission was similar to that of a guild explorer, who was coming down to draw maps and supplement the strategy guide, but now it seems that it is not. Shared seems to be heading there with a clear destination.
Therefore, they were eager to know where their destination was, otherwise blindly walking would only make them more and more anxious and fearful.
Shared stopped in his tracks.
He turned around, his gaze sweeping over Mur and the team members behind him, seemingly sensing their unease.
He closed the notebook in his hand, tucked it into the pocket of his breast pocket, and then slowly began to speak:
"We're going to the evil god's castle."
