Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds: The Path of Evolution

As the first player to advance in the previous round, Kanpaku's quarterfinal match was naturally the first one.

The host introduced Kanpaku and his opponent to the audience.

"A duelist hunter who was defeated in one battle, a Kanpaku (regent) fighter, a supernova whose attacks are more ferocious than lava, the new fighter of the Flame House!"

What kind of sparks will fly between them? Let's wait and see!

The cheers surged like a tidal wave, making the dueling arena seem like a battlefield standing on a deserted island.

The odds for Kanpaku and Enya are 1:2.

This means that the audience perceives the two to be very close in terms of skill level.

The bookmaker's counter was jumping wildly, and the number of people betting on Kanpaku and Enya Shin was, of course, the same!

Kanpaku and Enya Shin simultaneously stepped onto the dueling arena and stood on opposite sides.

"I watched your duel, and I feel you'll be a very formidable opponent."

The boy's slightly impetuous voice rang out.

Guan Bai looked at Yan Wuxin with some surprise. His hair was shaped like a burning flame, and its color was a gradient of red.

This person has a clean and refreshing appearance, yet he also seems like the kind of guy who would charge out if provoked.

Guan Bai responded to the boy's greeting with a friendly smile.

"Then let's get to know each other through a duel!"

A brief exchange, followed by a tacit silence.

The two stood facing each other, both able to see the burning, ready-to-go fighting spirit in each other's eyes—waiting only for the command to begin.

The host's announcement began.

"I hereby declare the first match of the quarterfinals officially open!"

"Duel!!"

"I'll make the first move!"

Kanpaku seized the initiative and his intuition told him that the guy in front of him was not an easy opponent to deal with.

Despite losing the initiative, Yanwu Xin wasn't as dejected as most people would be; instead, he looked at Kanpaku with even more excitement.

"My turn, draw a card."

Kanpaku drew a card and summoned it to the field.

"I usually summon the next-generation water spirit."

Silent, gentle water flowed quietly from the card, and a pair of slender, blue-green mechanical hands emerged from the water, grasping the ground and carrying the water spirit's body into the dueling arena.

"Activate the effect of the next-generation water spirit; it can be activated when it is successfully Normal Summoned."

"Send a WATER monster from your deck to the graveyard, and then I can add a Next Generation Controller to my hand."

"What I'm sending to the cemetery is the gacha frog."

Kanpaku pulls the deck out of the Duel Disk, takes out the card he needs to search for, and puts it back.

The Duel Disk's automatic shuffle function activated, and amidst the whirring of Sasha's operation, the deck that had been put back was shuffled once again.

Send the card-drawing frog to the graveyard, and then set a new card on the wall.

"I set one card face down, end of turn."

With a back-and-forth start, Kanpaku focused more on sustainability this time than on dominating from the back.

A new round for Yanwu.

"My turn, draw a card!"

Yanwu's new voice was full of fighting spirit and passion.

"I usually summon Hellhounds!"

A phantom running sound rang out, accompanied by a huge roar of flames erupting, and a hound made entirely of lava galloped out!

What a demonic monster...

Feeling the heat emanating from the other side, Kanpaku's forehead began to sweat involuntarily.

It's so hot!

What's wrong with this guy? The virtual images he's releasing seem to be having a huge impact on me...

Guan Bai suppressed his doubts and focused his attention on the card game.

This new Flame House deck uses the Flame Hell deck. I've only heard of it, but I don't really know anything about it.

The only time he encountered it was in the solo mode of Master Duel.

All I remember is that this Infernal deck seems to rely on accumulating graveyard resources and then unleashing a burst of power with its own True Flame deck.

It feels like the next generation of Kanpaku decks, both being mid-game focused decks.

On another note, both Next Generation and Flame Prison are allies of the Justice Alliance on DT Star, but now they are going to fight each other.

As if echoing Kanpaku's thoughts, Enya Shin immediately entered the battle phase.

"Infernal Hellhound, defeat the next-generation Water Spirit!"

The crimson-black hound sprang into action, transforming into a small fireball that evaporated all the moisture surrounding the next-generation water sprite.

It charged through and tore apart the blue-green robot's body!

[Kanpaku LP: 4000 → 3300]

The 700 points of combat damage slammed into Guan Bai's abdomen. Even though he was prepared to be hit, he was still knocked back several steps!

Looking at the slightly yellowed corner of his clothes, Guan Bai finally confirmed his earlier guess.

This is real pain!

This Enya Arata is actually a Mind-Body Duelist?! (A Mind-Body Duelist is what GX refers to as a duelist with Spirit powers.)

Guan Bai needs to be mentally prepared; he can't let the real damage from Yanwu's new attack knock him unconscious.

On the other side, completely unaware of all this, Enya Shin raised his palm and activated the effect of Hellhound.

"The effect of Infernal Cerberus: When it destroys a monster by battle and sends it to the Graveyard, you can Special Summon one FIRE monster with 200 or less DEF from your Deck!"

"I choose to Special Summon the New Infernal Source!"

The hellhound howled to the sky, its invisible call spreading into the depths of the dimension. A cute ball of fire appeared in the air and surrounded the hellhound.

Wow, it's actually the new Inferno card from DT08 in 2009!

Most of the cards in Kanpaku's next-generation deck came from card packs released in 2008.

He couldn't help but complain inwardly that the core cards in his deck were actually a year behind those of the native 5ds players.

The appearance of a two-star Inferno Tuner monster naturally means that Inferno Shin can now perform Synchro Summoning!

"New Infernal Fire Source, direct attack!"

The flame-like monster exploded in front of Kanpaku; although the damage was not great, it still brought pain.

[Kanpaku LP: 3300 → 2800]

After the battle ended, Yanwu raised his arms and shouted loudly.

"O raging demonic flames deep within the fiery hell, unleash your hidden power and scorch the heavens and earth for me!"

"Synchronous Summon, Infernal Demon God!!"

The new source of Hellfire exploded in mid-air, and the twin rings of fire roared through the air. The Hellhound howled loudly as it swept through the flames, transforming into a towering pillar of fire!

A colossal fire demon stood on the field, its violent heat even penetrating the protective glass, making the spectators at the front feel the scorching heat.

But what does it matter to these bloodthirsty viewers?

They feel excited as long as they sense the intensity of the duel, and they cheer as long as the duelists fight to the very last moment!

"Fiery Demon God, tear the enemy apart!"

"Insane! Insane! Insane! Insane!!"

Looking at the enormous monster, Enya Shin revealed a satisfied expression.

"Two cards are set to the top; my turn is over!"

"Good heavens! In just the second round, not only did the new Enya player defeat the Kanpaku player's monster, but he also Synchro Summoned a powerful, high-energy demon god?!"

Despite being covered in sweat, the host's voice remained loud as he explained the current situation to the audience.

"Under such immense pressure, what methods will Kanpaku use to cope?!"

As the host said, it's now Kanpaku's turn to make his move.

"My turn, draw a card!"
