Chapter 56 An Unexpected Turn of Events! Helheim
Holding the precious resources of Odin's Treasury, Su Mo stepped onto the Rainbow Bridge and greeted Heimdall. Heimdall nodded, said nothing more, gripped the Guardian Sword with both hands, and pressed it down forcefully.
The rainbow light instantly enveloped Su Mo's body, lifted him up, and sped towards Earth.
However, just as the rainbow light passed through Jotunheim—the land of the ice giants—an unexpected event occurred.
A spatial rift appeared without warning in front of the rainbow light. The rainbow light had no time to turn and rushed straight into it. Heimdall's eyes widened instantly; he immediately swung his Guardian Sword, attempting to control the rainbow light to return. But the spatial rift closed the moment he made his move.
Heimdall immediately realized the gravity of the situation. His all-seeing eye couldn't see Su Mo's location; he could only sense a faint signal. This meant one thing: Su Mo had entered Niflheim, the realm of the dead, the domain of Hela, the goddess of death.
Heimdall turned and strode hurried toward the Golden Palace. He had to report to Odin immediately. But he was stopped by the guards as soon as he reached the palace gates. The reason was that Odin had entered Odin's Sleep, and no one was allowed to disturb him. Heimdall's heart sank; it seemed this was all Hela's conspiracy.
He then asked where Thor was, and the guard told him that Thor had gone out to train. Heimdall immediately used his All-Seeing Eye to search for Thor's whereabouts. However, Thor used the Dark Elf's mist to conceal his tracks, seemingly determined to "die if he doesn't improve."
Looking around, he saw no one in Asgard fit for him. Heimdall stood on the steps of the Golden Palace, feeling utterly powerless. He couldn't leave the Rainbow Bridge, nor could he disturb Odin; if he were to perish prematurely, he couldn't bear the responsibility. He remained silent for a few seconds, then turned to the guards and said, "Send men to find the Warriors Three and Sif, and have them pursue Thor. Tell him that Sumo is in trouble."
The guard obeyed and left. Heimdall returned to his post on the Rainbow Bridge, his gaze piercing through the endless starry sky to the dark land he couldn't see. He could only silently wish Su Mo good luck. And he believed that Su Mo wouldn't die.
the other side.
Su Mo's vision blurred. When he came to his senses, he was already standing in complete darkness.
The ground was barren wasteland, and tiny, firefly-like lights floated in the air. Thick black mist swirled all around. But Su Mo wasn't blind. His superhuman vision made everything crystal clear to him.
Although he didn't know where he was, Su Mo immediately realized. He turned around.
In the distance, a group of skeleton soldiers riding winged horses were flying towards him. The winged horses had decaying wings on their sides. The skeletons on their backs were completely encased in filthy armor. Only a pair of eyes peeked out from the gaps in their helmets, glowing with fire—clearly the fire of their souls—flickering intermittently in the darkness. The skeletons were not particularly robust; in fact, they could be described as slender. Two bulges on either side of their chest armor revealed the gender of the undead in life.
Further away, countless skeletons surged across the ground. They crawled out of the black soil, some still clinging to rotting chunks of flesh, some oozing black pus and blood, and some reduced to bare skeletons. Wielding rusted swords, they slowly advanced towards Su Mo.
"Well, so this must be Helheim, the underworld where Odin sealed Hela, the goddess of death," Su Mo thought to himself. His gaze fell on the group of pegasus skeletons—the last Valkyrie of Asgard.
The Valkyrie spirits in the sky didn't keep Su Mo waiting long. The leader raised her spear, and a surge of soul fire blazed in her eyes. The entire group accelerated and swooped down, thrusting towards Su Mo. Su Mo had no choice but to meet them head-on.
-
The scene changes. Two hours later.
Su Mo was "fleeing" aimlessly in Helheim, followed by a large group of skeleton Valkyries. He wasn't afraid of these undead, but they were incapable of dying.
His fist shattered a Valkyrie's skull, scattering the skeleton into a pile of broken bones. But before he could retract his fist, the broken bones began to piece together and reassemble, transforming back into a complete skeletal Valkyrie a few seconds later, raising her spear to thrust at him.
He used his heat beam to pulverize a row of skeletons. The powder scattered in the air, fell to the ground, and then reformed, crawling out of the soil. He even tried to freeze the entire area into an ice field with his freezing breath, but the skeletons stopped pretending and simply respawned in the air.
What made Su Mo laugh and cry the most was that even equipment could be restored. He smashed a shield, and the shield was completely restored the moment the undead resurrected.
So he started running. But what terrified Su Mo was that the Valkyries behind him, after falling behind, would stop moving and commit suicide, scattering into a pile of white bones. Then, new Valkyries would emerge from the ground in front of Su Mo.
It was like grinding through monsters in a video game. But Su Mo knew this wasn't a game. It was Hela, the goddess of death, toying with him.
Su Mo's face darkened. He quickened his pace, rushing towards the direction with the highest density of undead in his field of vision. In the underworld, the denser the death aura, the more resurrected corpses and skeletons there were. And Hela must be there. She was the ruler of this land of the dead, the source of the death aura, and the one who granted these undead the ability of "immortality." Only by finding her could he find the exit.
